Can't see what people see in Schultz that makes him so valuable to give 2 first round picks... Even anything more than a 1st round pick.
Saw his highlights, and i am underwhelmed. Will he improve our side? Probably.

But how does he compare with "Norm Smith" Hill, a 22 year-old (The Giants trade Hill and its round-three selection (pick No.40) to Collingwood for its round-three selection (43) and its future second-round selection) - Effectively less than pick 39 in this year's draft.
Or McStay - 27 YO, signed a 5 year contract at circa $600k - (Brisbane got compensation pick 35).

Certainly not worth 2 first round picks. Probably worth a second round pick in compensation next year to Freo, so our 1st this year would more than cover it.

I’d rather we took our future first off the table. Last time we traded it, it ended up being pick 2. Yeah, we just won the premiership, but Geelong did last year and now they have pick 7. Did anyone predict that?
Pick 19 and a sweetener is fair. Trading our future first has the potential for disaster.
Not only that, we need to have capital in case a KPP or jet mid become available

I have been flip flopping this trade period because I feel that Schultz more then compensates for Adams in the forward line (not so much for Adams midfield back up role) and we are in the window. However I have changed my mind with the way I would offer the future 1st. I would be offering our pick 19 and 33 before our future 1st. Don't get me wrong I would still probably offer it, but only by itself. The future first is a risk for both teams it could be pick 19 again or it could be pick 5. If freo want that pick it would only be that pick.

I think that you might have made up that people are throwing out two first round picks for Schulz in order to make your point. I've missed a fair few pages but haven't seen anything resembling that

I would take future first off table due to risk associated with having a down season but we really should have an easier draw next season. Our draw this season was by random chance a lot harder than it should have been with Carlton, Adelaide and Port being big improvers who we all played twice. For example next season Carlton will be considered a top 6 teams so of the top 6 teams we will play Carlton and likely Lions twice instead of Carlton, Lions and Port like we did this season.

I believe we can only play 2 top 6 teams twice from this season so it is unlikely we play Giants and Melbourne twice if that is correct as I think its pretty obvious it will be Carlton and Lions

Is that correct or are we a chance to play 3 of the top 6 twice? for memory its 2

Not overly excited about Shultz, would be even more disappointed if we give 1st & 2nd picks. Hey Freo, take 19 or 33 and * off or keep the Umpa lumpa.

Rather a crack at Esva or Howard or even get Billings cheap.

Sick on not being in a good position with picks
Esava, Howard and Billings are all much worse at football than Schultz

19 should be the max offer then.
Is Schultz a player of immediate need ?
Now if it was a ruckman or a KPF - then yes - I just don't see small forward as a position of need.
We have just lost one of our better front half players in Adams, so yes - we need to replace that.

They're obviously on crack
You’ve got NFI. Schultz is better short term and almost definitely long term than any player taken with pick 24 in the draft (that’s how far it’ll slide). They’re hunting for a fair deal on an elite small forward and the “cop 19 you campaigners” attitude can bugger off to Essendon and Geelong!

I'd be taking it off the table because I'd be expecting us to be in the trade market again next year due to the age of our list and us likely to be near the pointy end again. We'll need to have our first round picks intact if we want to target a gun.

You'd rather some duds just because they're cheaper?

Not only that, but the assessment is garbage as well. Schultz is a better player than both Hill and McStay. He’d sit alongside Mihocek and Elliott as our most impactful forward in 2024 because of the totality of his game.

Yeah, nah.

A close mate of mine is a Geelong fan. He wants Esava gone for a packet of twisties. His best position is for the other side as a forward.

Howard is overrated. Would much rather have Frampton and Dean in defence, hit the state leagues for another. Or are they dead?

Billings is meh. Won’t cost much, low contract, etc.

Nothing is ever guaranteed. Look at Richmond and Geelong. They both thought they would be up there. But future you can’t predict. Like us in 2021. It’s a risk not worth taking. And next years draft will be stronger.

Trade other rounds fine. But not the first

I liked Adams but his disposal was not that good.
Adams 13 goals this year - Billy 39 and Bobby 33.
I don't seem to rate Adams as high as you (even Beau kicked 17).
I see Adams as replaceable with our current list - Johnson kicked 21 goals.

Adams led us in goal assists, was our 2nd best tackler I50 (excluding Macrae) and was our 3rd best player for score involvements per game.

It is not necessarily the goals that we need to replace, although Schultz will kick a tonne.

It wasn’t just goals for Adams. For his role in 2023 he was rated elite for score involvements, tackles, goal assists, score launches and above average for contested possessions. Put those together and it has him probably 3rd or 4th league wide for his ability to win a contest in the forward half and get it into the hands of a teammate (competing with Petracca, Martin and Bolton). He is replaceable, but not from within the list unless McInnes grows a leg hence our interest in Schultz.
