Not denying you didn't miss a few.

Im just hoping like god we don't suck again for another year.

Give me hope.

Nah. You guys looked pretty sharp and are getting improvement from your second tier of young players.

Futures bright - idk about this year, but trending in the right direction.

We really don’t need to practice these scenarios. We need to practice “ turning a 2 goal lead into a 12 goal win”.

I like how the reputation that is created by practising.....I think the players actually believe that we have an advantage. However, today shows that practising is nothing if the pressure isnt there, if the need to win isnt there. It's mcrae propaganda. He's verballing the players.....but it does work. It's a crazy situation. It just proves how much the game is inside the head

Eh? The only thing to be learned here is that it wouldn’t be a good idea to rest almost every single one of your top line players at once in a real game :/
I think a few have struggled with the term “match simulation” because today was a training session to simulate match conditions. That’s it. Next week, whilst not being meaningful, is the one I’d like to see better structure behind centre, at stoppage and in transition.

Of the players who have looked good in the preseason, Carmichael was pretty much unsighted. Didn't see him in the second half. Was there in the first.
Ed Allan didn't do much.
Ryan was OK. Was pretty good in the first actually, but then he was thrown to the wolves in the second and third with the midfield smashed.
McCrae started well. Ditto Hill and DeGoey.
Harrison is a goer, but foot skills let him down.
All up, ground defence was poor after quarter time and they ran rings around us. A few good blokes waiting in the wings for the next game though.

Good hit out today, Pies.

It was bleedingly obvious that you were missing your best key defenders and Larkey made the most of it. Score would have been wildly different if that wasn't the case it's fair to say.

But you guys really have an obvious structure and game plan that your players are confident in, and there's a reason you're the team to beat in 2024. Was great to throw our young kids out against your mob and have them go up against it.

Dropped in here to see how we went, checking out quickly at the lack of perspective, the overreactions, the premiership hangover anxiety disorders, the paranoid personalities venting madly, the sheer silliness.

Are you trying to be ironic?

The "overreactions" have been in jest.

Larkey is the type of player we can't stop even with a full strength line up. It's the easy out-the-back goals like Curtis kept getting which won't be happening in the season proper.

Feel like a lot are exaggerating the chicken little aspect of much of the posting here

I've only really seen posting about this game and this game only and most of it is fair enough.

If I was seeing some of these reactions in a closer loss where it was clear we were trying things or we seemed a bit rusty/etc then I could probably understand?

But like I said, the concerns would have mostly been coming from a lack of any real urgency from players who are supposed to be fighting their way into a Premiership team. Practice match or not, most of the players who took the field today are looking to fight their way in. Or at least they're supposed to be.

Even if you decide to view this through the lens of "This was making sure we have our structures and our system in place".

Well...if our system and structure is "be witches hats for 3 quarters" then I guess we were successful?

Again, I'm well aware this was mostly our VFL team but supposedly we train them on the same structures and game plan. Which, we really didn't see, at all. When North had the ball, it legitimately looked like there were no Collingwood players anywhere near them or the ball and the lack of intensity was quite evident.

Does it concern me for the season proper? Nope. Does it concern me in terms of our depth coming through? A little? yeah

Not exactly true.

Missing were

Definites: Scott, McDonald, Corr, Logue
Probables: Ford, Tucker, Comben
Possibles: Greenwood, Duursma, George, Archer

And we sat guys at half time, including Wardlaw who was probably our best to half time and probably close to the best mid on the ground the first half.

Flag Favs

Not many. Schultz is a certainty to come in. Macrae did some nice things but I was hoping for more. Reef kicked 3 and AJ did some nice things though hot and cold. Sullivan was good when he came on.
TBF all of our midfielders struggled after 1/4 time. Steene was aggressive in the ruck and gave our midfield opportunities. Then came Cameron. He didn't jump and tried to negate the Kangaroos ruck. We didn't win many clearances. Then Cox. He was the same as Cameron with the same result. When it came back to Steene's turn (aggressive jumping rather than wrestling) we again started to win CC's. We have a bit to work with with Steene

It's pretty cringe in here at the best of times, today could be a new low.

Umpires lol are we serious?

I think you have stacks of talented young players. I'd be very excited about your future if I was a Roo's supporter.

It was a good display on the back of a shitty off season, which we know a bit about 😉

Onwards & upwards.

Missing almost 100 goals up forward. Mihocek and Elliott.
Missing over 1000 games experience through the midfield. Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Crisp and Mitchell.
Missing our 2 key backs. Moore and Murphy.
Missing our intercept defender and our AA general defender. Howe and Maynard.
That's 10 of our top 15 players from last year.
Of the other top 15 players, Daicos x2, DeGoey and IQ didn't play much. Bobby was good but I'm not sure how much he played either. We also rested our 2 rucks a lot.

I liked the look of Schultz, Sullivan, Reef, Finn and Johnson today. I feel they could all step up. I also feel that Lipinski is in for a big year. TJ looked good at times along with HH.

With the soft free kicks he got today I'm calling him the next Curnow. Can't touch him.
