I'm starting to suspect he makes more sense as a wing/HFF, but at that point, is his disposal up to snuff for that role?
I don’t think anyone knows , apart from a couple kicks on his draft video, ever other kick I’ve seen him take in a game / training is a dinky little pass

From what I've read from others on here, he's not a forward.
From what I’ve seen he attacks the ball in the air stronger than Framtpon as a forward. Hard to shine up forward with the deliver he gets atm but I don’t see it as the disaster everyone else does.

McStay when playing forward last season similar looked awful yet was able to have impact in the back hand of the season

Smit has some good stats thus far, but I haven't been able to watch - how is he looking?
I think we have picked him as he fits Nick daicos and a few others streaming forward on to the ball. He isnt a crafted ruck as yet but he does hit it forward with momentum and follow up with pressure. Trying to think of a past footballer he reminds me of maybe a cross between Ischenko and Mumford.

Jack Bytel - 36 disposals, 6 clearances, 7 marks
Jakob Ryan - 17 disposals, 4 marks
Wil Parker - 17 disposals, 7 marks, 6 tackles, 2 clearances (was in the midfield late in the game)
Ash Johnson - 13 disposals, 3 goals, 8 marks
Harry DeMattia - 13 disposals, 3 clearances
illiro Smit - 10 disposals, 26 hitouts, 3 clearances
Josh Eyre - 7 disposals, 1.2 goals, 3 marks

I don't think McStay ever looked awful as a forward. Can't see any comparisons between him & Eyre.

Eyre? Defence should be where he starts & stays, I think. Checkers will be back before Eyre gets selected in the AFL anyway.
Was he changing in the ruck? Perhaps they feel they need a break glass second ruck for the time being.

I don't think it really matters in the long run - any footy is going to help him develop for whatever future role he's pegged for.

Nah, Ash was the 2nd ruck

Wonder if they are just putting eyre forward for a bit just to get reaquainted with playing again. Defence is his future.

Mcstay would be in the conversation as the best contested mark in the comp, and was averaging 2 goals a game for us. Yet to even get a good run at it with us
Wasn't his marking that made him a huge win for us.

It was the fact he only got beaten (outmarked or huge defensive spoil away from the contest) a handful of times in 1v1 contests in the entire back half of the year.
He either marked it, or it came to ground as a soft drop. Very very predicable for our fwds.
Created so many shots on goal because of this.

So underrated for our gamestyle.

I don't think it matters where he plays in the VFL either.

But from what I've read from others watching, he's not a current forward option/solution for our AFL side.
