It's natural to feel disappointed at a six-goal beating, even if it is only a bit of pre-season hit and giggle heck, even if it's kicking practice in Dad's backyard!

It was good to see no major injury concerns coming out of the game.

The only real issue is that I would have liked to have seen a bit more class from some of the main 'possibles', especially given the amount of 'probables' we had sitting it out. Everyone begins February as a breakout champion, few finish it that way.

Next week it will go up a significant notch, and I expect most of the usual 'black jumpers' will have a decent run at it.

Schulz a walk-up start for Ginny's place, AJ is probably just ahead of Reef for the McStay slot. MacRae, Sully or Lipinski for the Adams slot. Someone has to stand up for the Murphy slot, doubt it is Frampton, and so out of Dean, Ryan or perhaps even Eyre.

Sheezel ended up with 41 touches.

Wardlaw had 13 disposals, 4 tackles, 6 clearances in just over 25 minutes of game time.

Playing against mostly our VFL Side so you hope they would Dominate

My take-away is that our B team was still pretty strong against their A team. Our VFL is in for one helluva year!

There were that many slick moments with our A team to have me excited for this year. Schultz and Hill buzzing around half-forward will absolutely make sure our tall forwards end up with bruised chests with their forward passes. Reef is still raw but he is going to have some great moments, and it looks like AJ has been working on his forward defensive game.

Sullivan is a gunnivan (and def. not a Ginnivan)

I think Sullivan will be in the side alot this year

Good to blow the cobwebs out against an actual opponent. Take outs for me:

McStay replacement - could throw a blanket over Johnson, McInnes and Kreuger. All offer something different, all had an impact. Won’t be an easy call.

Of those outside the senior side before R0:
Schultz slotted in seamlessly. Looking forward to our small-medium forwards terrorizing opposition defence.
Macrae showed he’s more than capable at the level.
Sullivan was very impressive in his limited tog.
Harrison looks likely offensively, still doesn’t work hard enough defensively for mine.
Steene battled manfully against better credentialed opponents.
Allan did some nice things but then went missing for significant chunks.
Carmichael struggled to get into the game other than a couple of cameos.
Jiath was very impressive.
Richards worked hard but just seems to lack a yard to impact at his size.
Ryan did some good things, had some moments he’d like to take back. Disposal and 1v1 my biggest concerns.
Bytel had limited tog and didn’t stand out.
Nobel put in a really strong performance. Arguably our best defender across 4 quarters.
Frampton and Dean had tough days at the office but the supply the North forwards got did them no favors.
Johnson, Kreuger and McInnes as mentioned all impacted.

Of the senior players:
De Goey, Lipinski, and Hill probably the standouts. Cox the pick of the rucks with his tap work and marking.

Great to have footy back. Looking forward to the Richmond game and a few more senior players getting a run.

Can someone fill me in on the Murphy situation. If he's been given the tick of approval by the AFL I can't see why he doesn't play Round 1

Not exactly true.

Missing were

Definites: Scott, McDonald, Corr, Logue
Probables: Ford, Tucker, Comben
Possibles: Greenwood, Duursma, George, Archer

And we sat guys at half time, including Wardlaw who was probably our best to half time and probably close to the best mid on the ground the first half.

Wow not much to look forward too if that’s it ???

There is no update. He’s in line for selection and it’s a guessing game as to whether he thinks he’s ready. It’s pretty much about his confidence. Would not surprise if he was nursed back in via the VFL to allow him to build up to that level of confidence and right mental state.

Whether he plays the practice match next week might provide a clue but you’d assume he’d want to get involved in contact stuff at training first.

Macrae did nothing to convince me he would be lining up in the first game, that's for sure. With a stronger line-up expected against Richmond it'll be interesting to see where he lines up.

Yeah agree, the hype from training is just about it.
