Meh. They've been pretty competitive to be fair, albeit Virat being a big loss for the hosts.
You're right. They've achieved a lot. They've encouraged other countries to bat more aggressively, single-handedly saved Test cricket, and entertained the masses. All while losing another series. Well done England.

Does being competitive count as a moral victory?
Well, obviously.

It all depends on the viewpoint.

Just like Joe Root playing old style, build an innings, score at less than a run every two balls century is still Bazball. So Geoffrey Boycott was playing Bazball, just a different version.

On the last test. England were probably one wicket from taking it. At 5-120, needing 80 on that pitch, one more would probably have ended it. Well done India.
Especially missing Kohli, Rahul, Shami, Pant (edited in) etc. And resting Bumrah. I for one would not have wanted to face him on that wicket.

I almost wanted England to win this match after seeing the utter shit tip
India served up on Day 1. Almost.
I wish they would just ask curators to create their best 5 day pitch and have faith that their talented team can win without trying to influence the results.

And they're doing all of it from 8th on the WTC table.

Truly inspiring.

Agree.

The current India team (and next choice given what we've just seen with Shami, Kohli, Pant etc. out) are top drawer. The conditions, food, crowd and so on have always made India the toughest place to tour.
There is absolutely no need for India to serve up doctored, rubbish, last 2 days (if that) pitches. They'd win 9 out 10 series anyway.

Yeah but it's the 1/10 that the BCCI want to avoid. They can't tolerate any chance of losing at home.

It's why last year was the greatest WC final ever.
Shit pitches help the other team more than India though, that's the crazy thing. Shoaib Bashir isn't taking 5 for without a lot of help from the pitch. I'd back Jadeja and Ashwin to roll through a side on a literal highway.

England literally had to blow it twice for India to win this last test.

Yeah it’s bizarre hey. Way to make an absolute noob kid feel like he’s Murali all of a sudden - give him a rank turner

Completely agree. That's why Steve O'Keefe was a world-beater a few years back. Actually got a modicum of spin, which is often preferable to outrageous turn.

Pretty weak bowling attack for NZ. If they didn’t have success against Aus with peak Southee, Boult, Jameson and Wagner, I can’t see them doing much here
