From the few games I have watched, including tonight, he has at times been moved to positions i haven't seen him play. Tonight he looked like he was playing Key position at times due to the injuries.

He is a touch and contact player. He was great for us when he got going early in games with some tackles and early possessions. I would be very surprised if he didn't come good for you.

The other question I have with your injuries is, how often is he playing with the same group? Sometimes it takes a bit to adjust and longer if the players around him keep changing. Anyway, I am a fan of his, he hasn't got the class of Hill but he has a lot of other attributes in spades.
I didn’t see much of Schultz at Freo, but I was thinking he’d have more tricks (for example crumbing and snaps). For us he seems to be mainly a pressure player and he’s got most of his goals through hard running to get back inside forward 50.

He was never much of a crumbing player or one who got snaps. He will barge through packs, hit up strong leads, tack pack marks, bulldoze and win htb. Most of his goals come running and on the lead or contested marks.

He was also a very good kick to a lead.

But not a crumbing small at all. It is something we have lacked for years at this point.

Looks like 18.8e to me. But I guess that rule means the umpires can command a player to do a jig or get a free kick awarded against them. It's a bit arbitrary.
It is just a nonsense as there is no a clear rule anywhere that states that after a stoppage if you have the ball you must directly give it to an umpire.

But you can see from the earlier incident with Sidey just walking off that Nicholls was pissed off.

Just unfortunate for us that he felt the need to impose himself on the game, and make it about him, instead of just letting the players play footy.

ok - I said it was 50/50. Now do the other calls and Daicos with his clear throws?
free kick against Quaynor, at the death, in the centre of the ground - before Freo score the equalising point. he pays it for too high ..there is no high, it's a perfect tackle around chest height, even though the Freo player bends at the knees and tries to raise his arm; that's HTB every day of the week and a month of Sundays ..yet the sting was in!!

Hopefully he gets his pack/contested marking and lead/goal going soon with us. He’s hit up the wings well on a lead.

I went and watched that three times, and as I did live, when I watched it the first time I thought it was high. The next two I am not sure it happens so fast. The tackle definitely ends up in the right area.

Now I have addressed that will you discuss the throws or the Daicos deliberate or the Amiss one?

It will come with time. A couple of games he hasn't looked like he has known what todo with Cox at times. I am not sure if that is him or Cox but there seems to be a bit of a disconnect. At freo Lachie would have said something.

I would back him in to come good and to play very well in some big games this year.

Slow it down and look again, he looks over his shoulder, anyway I said it was 50/50 and was surpised we got the call.

The Quaynor one was clearly there. More so than the Jackson one in the ruck.

No one saying anything about the one paid against Amiss that gifted a goal in the first? Goal for a goal on howler decisions.

Daicos not being paid deliberate when we were pressing also went your way.
Was that the high contact on Switskowski? He ducked into the tackle and then threw his head around looking for a free kick.
Should've been ignored.

Sullivan's back was to the umpire. Even if he did see the umpire, when is that ever paid?

The other 2 I'll give you.

Unfortunate, is putting it mildly.
Nicholls should be held accountable for that.
Dropped from umpiring for a period of weeks - just as players are generally held accountable for their worst mistakes.

I went back and watched it three or four times.

Live I thought it was there, on replay I am not sure and that is watching it a few times. Now can we do any of the others I have mentioned?

And to those who are saying the fix was in based on Quaynor touching the ball off banfield..

there's 40-50 throws a game across every game and they call about 1 /week, so no cigar.

'deliberate' law changed some time ago so pls refresh your understanding ..in any event, using your logic from above "I don't know conclusively if it was deliberate or insufficient attempt and I don't think anyone here does either"

did i a miss one?

I saw one clear throw from Nick early in the game.

It never gets paid against Cripps, Oliver, Treloar and a dozen or so other gun mids that get away with it against us, week in and week out, so turnabout is fair play I guess. I'll agree that we should be pinged for it when I start seeing it called way more often across the board.

So there are a handful of mids who do it all the time and that is ok if it doesn't get called.

He had at least four direct from the CB and three of those were one armed rugby passes.

Anyway - brilliant player and I suppose as long as it doesn't get called, those of us without one of those mids just has to hope we get one. haha he is a gun!

I am happy to keep chatting if people reply but don't want to annoy people. So I will leave unless replied too. Good luck again next week.

HH looks a find!

So it happens regularly but they rarely call it... Like not passing the ball back to the ump?

Fly's presser

Crazy finish, what were your thoughts on the match?
"I just said to the players that anyone watching at home as Collingwood supporters would be extremely proud of the effort from our players. We've got some young players playing their first games, two of them, and six under 10 games. They just didn't look out of sorts. There's a lot of things to go into the end result, but I think for most of the night we've had enormous effort. To walk away with 2 points is better than 0. We've come over here a long way, they're [Fremantle] a very good team and their clearances were enormous. Coming in we were worried about that sort of stuff. There's a lot to take in, but right now I've got this enormous pride of our effort".
Couple of weeks in a row the opposition had all the momentum and could have won, is that because of the inexperience of some of your players?
"No, if you look at the detail of it, there's two weeks in a row where we've had our key forward out of the game. Mason [Cox] got concussed and Brody Mihocek's got another injury. He might have done his hamstring again, so he's off in the last quarter and we don't have any key forwards. If you looked at the detail of that, then you go the same thing happened last week. We have a makeshift forward line with key forwards and we've got Ed Allan in his first game playing as a key forward for us against [Alex] Pearce. We're fighting and scraping, and I'm really proud of that. There's circumstances around that. We'd like to walk away with a couple of more points, but geez it's not through a lack of effort".
The main talking point will be about the free kick against Sullivan. What's your interpretation of it?
"I'm looking forward to what the AFL tell us about that because I wasn't aware that was a free kick, but clearly it is because they don't pay things that aren't there. I'm looking forward to seeing what they say".
Will you seek out an explanation?
"I'd assume you guys have reported enough [for it] to be spoken of. It will be what it will be. It doesn't help us does it?".
How was your emotion in that moment?
"In that moment? I was confused because I was told he touched the umpire Nick [Daicos]. That's what I got told so I was 'like okay, that's a bit much' in the moment. Again, I was unaware of what actually happened until afterwards".
Do you think that moment flustered your team given what happened towards the end of the match?
"Well I hope not. We like to live in that space; we made way more mistakes than the umpires did tonight and he's I assume just umpiring to the letter of the law. But, no I'd like to think not. I'd like to think that 'hey no, let's move on, let's go, what's next?' because that's all you can control. If the umpire comes out or the AFL go it 'oh, it was a mistake' that doesn't help us either, we're just moving on so there's no point for us sitting in it. The reality is it was probably a free kick and we move on".
Did you have a message to Lachie Sullivan after the game about the decision?
"No, not particularly. No, we just praised effort. What about the handball back and we create a goal in the third quarter that Lachie did in what is his 4th game? I'm living in the space that we drew Anzac Day and we felt like it was an even tussle and hard to walk away with the win, and tonight there's a little bit in you that goes you're '25 points up with 7 minutes to go, ooh come on can we hold on?' This would have been one of our best victories for the year if not for the last couple [of years]. We knew that it would be a really tough challenge for us today. Did we exceed expectations? Maybe not, we just show that we've got players that come in wearing a Collingwood jumper and it doesn't matter what number they're wearing, they do their job and we add adversity to it and we're proud of that".
You mentioned those injuries of Mason Cox and Brody Mihocek. Do you have an early read on their situations?
"Mason's got concussion. The knee sort of twisted underneath so he might have some bruising too and there's a bit more to play out so we'll have to wait and see on that. Brody's got signs of a hamstring awareness strain, I'm not sure so we'll work through that".
The same hamstring that Mihocek had previously injured?
"Yeah, the same one. When I'm talking about us here, I just want to make sure that people understand that we're playing Freo who have been in really good form. They're going to be hard to beat here. Their clearance stuff was enormous. I thought the way the game was played, we got the game on our terms because they're so dangerous around stoppages so it was a real challenge. Tough competition isn't it?".
The six youngsters you mentioned. Can you expand on the role(s) they played?
"Harvey Harrison, the pressure. Joey Richards, clean and setting up goals and kicking goals. They've played 3 games and 5 games. [Lachie] Sullivan in the midfield against some really seasoned midfielders. Ed Allan in his first game looked good, geez he's trying his guts out. He would have done his family proud. Wil Parker comes on. You know he played cricket last year, so it's a great story isn't it? He was bowling leg spinners last year, and here he is setting up goals for Bobby Hill. It's a great story".
Has your opinion of the draw changed in terms of it having extra time or retaining it as it is?
"Well, I'm feeling if this went to extra time we're not hanging on. Anzac Day may be a different story. Today we've had three 6-day breaks and every injuries we've had along the way in the last few weeks has been a cost on the group. One on the bench against West Coast for a half, the next week [against Adelaide] two on the bench and today or tonight [as well]. Those things are a tax and the key forward stuff is stressing us out but we're dealing with it. We're dealing with it. We're still here, we're still breathing. It's not ideal, but we're working our way through it".
Is that an example of not having extra time with the injuries you had?
"I never got caught up on the opinion on [having a extra time or not in the event of a draw], that's up to you guys to do that. We're just worried about why we let some goals slip in the last few minutes. We'll put our energy there and then reward the effort".
What was the mood like in the change rooms given the team gave up a 25-point lead?
Mixed, because we don't know how to act and I said this last time. I just don't want the guys to walk in and act like it's doom and gloom because it's not. I'm looking forward to watching the replay and picking out all those incredible moments and fight. Charlie Dean is another one I hadn't mentioned, did you see the rundown tackle? He's playing his 3rd game [in] a critical moment. We're going to learn so much from that. Our young players are going to be so much more hardened for that and that sense of belief and belonging. It gives us some good confidence we've got some depth on our list that gets exposed through opportunity".
How proud were you to be after being 3.9.27 in the first half and to come out hard and dominate the 3rd quarter?
"Yeah, there was a moment at half time where we sort of didn't want to get disillusioned by the scoreboard because I felt a lot of stuff was going well. We just had to turn it around and we dominated that 3rd quarter. We're a hard team to stop when we get a bit of momentum but we're playing a good team away from home, so the game is never done".
Will you likely get anyone back for the Dogs game next week?
"Yeah, I think Howie might be available. I'm not sure at this stage".

What was awful? A couple of lovely snaps from Freo players under great pressure and a mini run on with the home crowd roaring while we have five kids with less than three games experience? We still attacked and had two or three good chances. The story that we went completely defensive is not true. It looked nothing like the Hawthorn game which they blew. That was a defensive mindset on display..
Couldn't disagree more. The minute we got 4 goals in front we went to the slow, sideways chip game and just tried to play possession football. The on field decision to run out the game like this was made by senior personnel on the field as they were the ones instructing players every time they took a mark to go slow.

We were all over Fremantle with our handball and high pressure game and unfortunately this style of play let them get a sniff and they took it.

Under McRae we're 20-2-4 in games decided under 10 points, so wouldn't be too critical of how we handled the game late. We played it right, just didn't quite go our way.
The concern is that we’ve played in so many close games when we’ve had the opportunity to put the opposition away.

I hope we learn a lesson from this game. It's time to save the defensive shut down for the last 3 mins max. All we needed to do was kick 1 goal in that Fremantle run on at the end and its over.

Geelong did it perfectly against Carlton when they were coming hard and it was enough to halt their run.

And seriously it's about time we learn to kick it through the goals. Seriously can't kick for shit this year whereas the last 2 years there was some ridiculous stat where we were the most accurate team while we made teams have their most inaccurate games against us.

The Beau 50 was interesting. Was he expected to give the ball to the freo player while lying on his back?

I thought that 50 was pretty obvious.

Freo player tried to take the ball but he stopped him and held the ball while slowly standing up, then after he stood up took another second to give the ball back. Was clearly timewasting

Positives: Daicos' played well.

Harrison perhaps a break out game

Richards looks very sharp

Noble very good

Our Defence overall was quite solid apart from the last 5 minutes.
