What was the reply ?

I just have one question - did you vote in favour of the SANFL relocating back to West Lakes?

This was the response -

No I did not. The vote to proceed was 8 to 6 (2 elected members were absent). The SANFL proposal has gone to public consultation to ascertain what the residents wish. I hope you have submitted your comments? During late June, the council will review all comments received, and recommend a Motion for the 16 elected members to adopt, alter, or not adopt the recommendation.

My further response -

Thank you for your response.

And yes, I have submitted my comments which was in favour of SANFL going to West Lakes.

Don’t worry that is my next step after consultation has finished on June 2nd.

My response would be -

“I don’t normally vote in council elections however I will make it my mission to get those I know in this ward to vote you out next time”.

Why does the SANFL need a ground for anyway? HQ yes.
SANFL have their offices at Adelaide Oval.

In their proposal they've said they want a ground for

The primary use of the oval will be for SANFL’s State Talent Programs:

U16 State Girls and Boys Teams
U18 State Girls and Boys Teams
Multicultural and First Nations Academies
It will be used for training and trial matches.

And if you vote no I will get all my swinging mates to vote you out

Further response from the councillor received this morning. The other councillor has not responded at all so far.

“Thanks.
The current public consultation will provide useful suggestions and comments. SANFL does own the land - not the council!”

Thought the land reverted to the council shortly obviously not.

This should have been done ages ago

I think the club, maybe SANFL are advertising the survey on 5AA as well.

Basically, “the Crows want to move, they can’t do this unless the SANFL can return to footy park, feedback is open, go to the website to have your say”

As a member of WWTFC, I got an email from them weeks ago together with a link to the City of Charles Sturt consultation webpage.

Did my submission straight after that.

Seriously, they have no nous down there at West Lakes.

And finally the other councillor responded as follows (a bit lengthy) :-

Thank you for reaching out.

I have neither voted in favour nor against SANFL relocating to West Lakes. Final decision on whether or not to grant SANFL a non-exclusive licence over Football Park is yet to come to Council. As far as I am aware, the motion for endorsement of the SANFL Football Park licence will come to Council after completion of the current consultation process.

So far this year, Council has voted on three agenda items that relate to SANFL. These agenda items discussed at Council spoke to the consultation and community engagement approach for the proposal to grant SANFL a non-exclusive licence over Football Park and the Community Land Management Plan (CLMP).

Each of these items and how I voted are outlined below:

1. Council Meeting 8th of April 2024 - Agenda Item 6.28 FOOTBALL PARK ‐ PROPOSED COMMUNITY LAND MANAGEMENT PLAN AND SANFL LICENCE REQUEST
  • My Vote: AGAINST
  • Reasoning: A number of concerns were raised by community members regarding usable open space in the West Development.
  • Motion Result: LOST

2. Council Meeting 22nd of April 2024 - Agenda Item 6.33 FOOTBALL PARK ‐ REQUEST TO STATE GOVERNMENT FOR FUNDING TOWARD ADDITIONAL OPEN SPACE, PROPOSED COMMUNITY LAND MANAGEMENT PLAN AND SANFL LICENCE REQUEST
  • My Vote: FOR
  • Reasoning: Further consultation provides more information on community sentiment which allows for better decision making reflecting the interests of the residents. This was not the final decision vote regarding SANFL relocation to West Lakes and therefore when it comes to Council at a later date, I reserve the right to vote to deny or endorse the SANFL licence request with the additional information acquired during the consultation.
  • Motion Result: CARRIED

3. Council Meeting 13th of May 2024 - Agenda Item 7.03 MOTION ON NOTICE ‐ AMENDMENT OF ITEM 6.33 FOOTBALL PARK FROM COUNCIL MEETING OF 22/04/2024
  • My Vote: FOR
  • Reasoning: The points outlined for removal in Cr Kelly's amendment motion are not necessary for consultation to proceed. Therefore, I agreed with the amendments and voted in favour.
  • Motion Result: LOST

I tried to avoid writing 'War and Peace' in my answer above so if you have any further questions let me know. Happy to discuss.

Furthermore, full Council Meeting minutes can be found at this link:

Kind Regards,
