I don't like him either but can't help admiring, he is a fierce competitor as a coach and player. He was an unbelievably good player.Watching the arrogance of hawthorn has Sam Mitchell all over them and it’s making me hate them so much more

Those knee attacks were just chit! And a grub
It would make a big difference having both of them around for finals, the pressure goes up so much more and the style changes.Walters is our greatest ever finals player, I don't think he needs redeeming, his legacy is secure.
Fyfe may rue his Grand Final but really, another finals campaign where he guides the next generation midfield in how to handle those games and that experience will be massive. First we have to get there then, well, hopefully he gets one more deep finals run (Top 4, make a prelim i.e. the finals that really matter)
Never write off a championwasnt so long ago many fans didnt want Walters in the team
He must have read all these posts and decided to put in a big effrt
well done to Michael

Maybe the rest and sub role rejuvenated him?Never write off a champion
I didn't personally have the pitchforks out but the criticism won't go away.Walters got himself into a lot of space today. Made him very damaging.
He was damaging because he found space. If he can't it is a different story.I didn't personally have the pitchforks out but the criticism won't go away.
Walters was damaging when out in space, but he doesn't have the pace or agility to create it himself any more, and it's not sustainable to rely on overwhelming midfield domination to get it.
There was a loose ball out on the wing that the Walters of old would have marked, didn't even get close then fumbled it and got a genuine high contact.
If the umpire had called play on because of his history then it would have been a terrible turnover, luckily the ump did though.
That and Walters has been lacking his 'create something out of nothing' traits in the forward line, albeit that pick up and pass to Young (when he got legged) was pretty awesome.
People have very short memories. That Bulldogs final, the whole team was shell shocked and it was Walters who carried us and got us back into the game. We have lost a bit of leadership since then, although our core is older. Fyfe and Walters are going to be critical to our final hopes, we need them in the team, even if they aren't doing it all themselves and in the best players. He was damaging because he found space. If he can't it is a different story.
One of the biggest disservices to JL was the early criticism that he was too soft on the players.“Our best footy is good enough to beat anyone. But our footy is not consistent enough to beat them all yet.”
JL presser.
That’s what standards looks like. That’s where high expectations start.
Thank you JL for bringing this to the club.
