He said 17yo Tom was giving instructions to teammates, some former AFL players, in the Keilor seniors about positioning etc.
Said he has a really good footy brain and bleeds black and white.

At the moment (pending list changes) we have AJ, Kreuger, Reef & Steene as forward tall depth.
In defense we have Dean & Eyre.
I know which one I would rather add backup to.

Tomlinson can play forward as well

I think if smith gets walked to the draft, there are lower clubs with plenty of cap space to fit his contractual demands on a short notice. Lock him up on a contract and then force cats to trade for him next year and reap the benefits.

Unless mental health is something to do with it , not really. I had a look around the Saints board and they all seem to think if he stays he's Best 22 but the club doesn't see him as part of the next flag tilt (in 2066) and want to get development into Sharman and Caminiti.

They have King as their primary target, and Owens/Phillipou/Caminiti/Sharman as your second and third 190cm+ target options, so I think they just feel they've got the position well covered.

Chris Da Silva from ABC News yesterday gave a good summary of it in response to a question from a fan:

When it comes to Tim Membrey I think it's a mutual agreement from he and the Saints.

Membrey probably wants more opportunity than he'll get at St Kilda, and the Saints want to go in a different direction with their forward line with the likes of Anthony Caminiti and Cooper Sharman looking excellent this year to flank Max King.

I read it as we'll probably one dfa to the senior list. No idea after that in terms of the rookie list. He made it clear they hadn't fully decided who gets cut so how many rookie list spots we'll have.
