Same rules as every other year.

This isn’t the thread to talk about your ladder predictions or declarations of how interested you are in the draft in response to a win/loss, nor is it the thread to declare who you want to trade for.
Those posts will be deleted.

Talk about the kids in the draft.

Arrivals: Josh Battle (free agency), Tom Barrass (trade)

Departures: Denver Grainer-Barrass (delisted), Cooper Stephens (delisted), Jack O’Sullivan (delisted), Ethan Phillips (delisted), Clay Tucker (delisted), Chad Wingard (retired)

Draft picks: 33, 71, 77

Uncontracted: Josh Bennetts

Contracted: 41 (one category B rookie)

The Hawks have committed to adding basketball convert Jaime Uhr-Henry, a ruck prospect, as a category B rookie for 2025, with the second of those spots potentially for Bennetts, if they choose to re-sign him.
They will use two picks at this year’s draft, and their selection in the 30s could unearth a good player, given recruiters believe this is a deep draft class. A number of promising key-position types may still be on the board for Hawthorn, with the likes of Noah Mraz and Thomas Sims potentially among them. Other possibilities in that range could be talented winger Christian Moraes – the Hawks have a strong relationship with his Talent League club Eastern Ranges – or tall Claremont utility Hamish Davis.

By my read our pick should come in slightly if anything with Essendon and Brisbane using multiple picks in the 20s to match on players.
There are only 3 picks they have before ours between them and they get a new pick when a bid is made, so that is only +1 spot if they were to hold the picks they currently have. Also GC will match a bid who don't have a pick before ours so if everything stays as it is now, our pick will stay exactly at 33.

However, I think what will likely happen is Brisbane and Essendon doing further trades with those picks and potentially having none before our 33 at the time of matching, meaning it will be pushed out slightly.

On the plus side, our picks in the 70s should come into the late 50s after all the bid-matching :)

If we hold Carlton's F1 my hopes will be on the Hawks selecting Thomas Sims at pick 33.

Thomas Sims, 199cm, fwd/ruck, Combine: Agility: 8.13 (9th), Running vertical jump: 90cm (7th).

At AFL level he would be a KPF who can relief ruck. He has a frame that you know will put on muscle.

Here is footage of his involvements-in-the-play for his best game of 2024.
11 shots at goal for 7 goals 4. The kid is a one touch mark, which this armchair analyst loves. But just as good ...is his play from 30sec in the vid where he splits a pack leaving 2 players on the ground, he follows up to get the ball and then ankle breaks the oppo chasing (refer to his combine agility result). He misses the shot a goal from the boundary but DAMN it was good play. And his soft touch passing by foot ... is also impressive

Hamish Davis, Sims, and James Barrat all look interesting to me and are likely around at our pick.

Are the club looking at list needs or picking purely best available? Tricky spot at 33, and we have pretty good depth everywhere.

Big wraps on Barrat I'm hearing.
Very nice
