I'll add, it's also the sickening feeling of deja vu about it all. For a decade we've discussed ad nauseam the 'what could have beens' over a crucial draft choice decision. And here we are again. Such is the impact this stuff has when it's all played out.
I think this one still resinates with the people all these years later because it was just so bloody obvious at the time. Obvious what he would become. A beast.
Everyone had him at no 1. Us included until the week leading up to the draft.
When it was leaked that we were going to take Paddy...
Controversial opinion but maybe, just maybe, much of our complete turn around in form this season could actually be attributed to ol m8 Danny Sexton?
Been on the real slow burn for the past 15 years he's been at the club, just brewing nicely, bubbling away, but now the sex-effect finally paying...
Yeah I remember that being posted on here at the time. I get the rational, but in hindsight we just made the wrong call unfortunately.
That was during our Trout choir boy policy too, yet that big confident alpha dog bull to lead us is exactly what we're missing.
Imagine we had tracca coming...
No one could have predicted a type 1 diabetic having health concerns and issues playing elite sport?
Just look at how susceptible he was to concussion from the most innocuous of knocks.
My best mate has type 1. He was amazed we took paddy with numero uno based on this alone.
We outsmarted...
This. And I think that's partly why we're experiencing such a supporter revolt with the state of things now. Jettisoning our champion players for peanuts. Trading down 1st round picks for quantity over quality. I know I was sceptical at the time. But what are you to do when you simply won't know...
Bit of a bonar killer tbh. Not the worst outcome by any means coz who knows how these kids will turn out in the end..
I'll still be hoping like hell a Brayshaw or a Coffield gets through to us tho.
BF hype/highlight clips are strong. THE GROUPTHINK IS REAL.
Pretty much this. We traded out of the 1st round last year for this year, either to trade in a star, or plan b hit the draft with 2 top 10 picks.
Seeing as it's come to that, I think the swap of seconds to use one in this draft shows we're not interested in delaying another year. We're loading...
Wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with him, somehow. Remember reading pre-draft that our recruiters were all over him & had identified him as future A grade. Or something along those lines. Firmly believe we were going to pick him up if it weren't for the GOAT sliding to our pick.
Yeah he took the mark, slotted the goal, finally putting us up after a huuuuge 2nd half comeback & brilliant individual performance from BJ & lenny (those 2 were seriously men possessed) with just abit over 5 mins left.
Hence, any saints supporter could be forgiven for believing, for a minute...
For some reason Luke was one of a few players I really had my eye on and desperately wanted us to draft in '13.
All based on bigfooty write ups, phantom drafts & highlight packages of course. Just sounded like that strong, beast of a footballer with good leadership qualities that was being...
My vague recollection was that Max was well and truly on his last legs that season, was possibly coming back from a calf injury or something right at the end and was always pushing it to be selected for the big dance. As much as it sucked, especially looking back now.
Not 100% on the specifics...
IMO we obsess because 'the Bont' has established himself as a bona fide young star of the comp. I won't deny this or state it as any less.
& unfortunately for Billings, he was taken the very next pick in the same draft. One of those Hodge/Ball/Judd scenarios. That old chestnut.
In all...
