Yep we lost against Geelong.
The first game we have lots of excuses. The bye and just the fact that Geelong wanted it more. We were outplayed and if we had in fact scored that goal, I still would think that we robbed Geelong of the win. R24 was not what I was expecting. We were exposed and...
I think both teams will go in hard for 3 quarters to get used to the final like game then pull back a bit to stay fresh for the real thing. Players will try hard but the coaches will play around with structure and position and try not to reveal anything. I don't think it matters for either side...
Hawks game plan was soundly beaten. That plan relies on being a perfect kick for 10 kicks in a row in high pressure situations. No team can do it especially in the finals.
I think the biggest concern for us was our goal kicking. Our team was changed up, we didn't play to our structure for 2 quarters and our young kids made a few mistakes and we could fix all that but what we can't fix easily was our crap goal kicking.
I thought we didn't play our best for most...
True, when Pendles went down we were not as good as we are now. It would still hurt however.
b) And all have been replaceable, although I think that's due to a gameplan that doesn't rely too much on one player.
c) I agree we are ahead but Geelong are beating teams like they play in VFL...
Please, I think in 09 we were really good until Pendlebury went down so if we did get injuries it would hurt us just as much as any other team.
I think Collingwood have stayed about the same but the competition has caught up (read:Geelong). If we play 9/10 and Geelong play 10/10 we could lose...
I like the fit. Although I don't think he has it in him to win it, he will at least make Melbourne competitive which is a step up from now. Also who else is there?
B: Shaw Tarrant Shaw
HB: Shaw Shaw Shaw
C: Pendlebury Thomas Pendlebury
HF: Cloke Thomas Cloke
F: Cloke Cloke Thomas
R: Jolly Swan Ball
INT: Swan Swan Swan
Sub: Davis
Basically one shut down defender. Shaw can do the rest down back. Swan can do the link up work and the heavy endurance running...
WE know the top two but I am more interested in the next few.
Hawks seem so out of it just in terms of injuries. I think the big one was Roughhead when he was finally playing really good footy. I don't expect them to win a premiership but they are a dangerous side to face in the finals...
I think I rate Collingwood's 08 win against Geelong better than the 10' prelim. The 10' prelim was all down to tactics and Geelong was coping with lots behind the scenes. In 08 it was all emotion and the Geelong 08 side was better than the 10' one. Very similar in just how completely dominate...
Depends how Collingwood play but I expect similar to the Hawks game but seeing how North are not as competitive across the ground as the Hawks, I expect Collingwood to win by a bit more.
I think it's more interesting seeing teams beat the press.
Some try to pinpoint pass going slowly across the ground. Others kick to a contest. Others just kick near the line so that it goes out and you try to get a clearance.
In some ways it has hurt the game but it has brought in pack marks...
OK I'm going to be the arseh*le that says this. Selwood was getting tagged out the game, he punches the tagger who goes down, then Selwood gets off the leach and wins the game. That is with Roughead going off as well. I think the Hawks could have beat Geelong but circumstances happened. Shame...
I think this was the first time this year where we played close to our best. By the end of last year we were playing so good that we made great teams look like they were unfit to play AFL. Saying that this was Melbourne and as much as last week's performance was good I have no read on how good...
Geelong
Then Collingwood by about a goal below
Big Gap
Carlton and Hawks. With Carlton making me very worried about next year and the Hawks who look really dangerous if they peak during September.
- Essendon peaked way to early and are injured quite bad.
- Dog's are playing just awful
- Freo...
So Carlton didn't win a few close games just because of Judd?
Not as bad as last year but if Judd goes down there goes Carlton's chance of doing anything in the finals. A Carlton supporter actually told me that.
Just seems to me that no matter how good Murphy is he is not the best player at...
I'll take West Coast over Essendon or Hawks at the moment. Hawks are just to inconsistent and I just love the way West Coast are playing. Top 3 already decided barring injuries.
Watched the North/Swans game. Was fantastic. Can't see a good game for tonight though with Geelong pumping Suns and the Tigers thrashing Port. Might be a good night for a movie as I look forward to the Pies game tomorrow.
About the "hitting the stride for round 15" all good coaches do that, and all coaches that have gone deep into the finals know how to do it well (sorry Carlton fans, Carlton just haven't been getting that part of the game right) but Mick is taking it to absurd levels. Purposely lowering...
This thread in a nutshell
Neutral: Selwood is a cheat
Lawman: Technically it's in the rules
Other neutral: Not really in the spirit
Geelong Supporter: I don't care, we win
Other Geelong Supporter: I can't even see why people would call him a cheat
12 year old: He can't play AFL
Geelong...
I loved the Geelong vs Hawks game. Reminded me of past finals and both teams were outstanding skills wise.
Richmond vs Brisbane was good.
I liked Sydney vs Geelong in the wet.
The best Collingwood game was the Anzac match. Essendon showed a lot.
I see spread as when a team get's the ball, the players for that team run into space so they are a passing option.
Transition is from defense to attack. The best teams once they have the ball use their defenders to run the ball into their forward line.
Overlap is simple 2 on 1 for the team...
I dislike the way the players don't even know the rules at times but AFL has always had this thing about grey decisions. If there was an omnipresent umpire who paid every free kick in the game that happened it would be a poor game. I'm in favor of paying the more obvious one's, the one's that...
