Putting aside the merits of sports diplomacy, rugby league has been a pretty constant, bipartisan part of relations with our Melanesian neighbours for the last few Prime Ministers: Rudd, here handing out a Queensland jersey to the PNG PM: Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd describes himself...

The big opportunity for AFL is not so much the west (which isn't to say that the Lions' presence in Springfield isn't a great long-term play) but in the south-west, in a sweeping arc from Yarrabilba through Jimboomba to Flagstone. This is a massive growth area, and it doesn't really appear to be...

The crowd ended up being 11,466, although it is fair to say that the weather kept about 3-5k away. Things are looking up on the Coast.

The thrust of your post is spot on, but I clicked on the link you shared to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. These were the stories on the site that you shared that related to the NRL double-header: National Rugby League of Australia plays games at Allegiant Stadium | Sports (reviewjournal.com)...

You are right to note that the effect of the Magic Round, and of multiple venues. The Titans' average at Robina was 17054. The Broncos' and Dolphins' averages can also be disaggregated, as they played home game at multiple venues. Broncos home H/A games @ Lang Park: 36008 (no Magic Round...

Just a note on the politics. Whether we agree with the policy or not, the current government cannot take credit for rugby league being used as a tool in foreign affairs. Indeed, Scott Morrison was much more hands on than Anthony Albanese. PM's XIII v Fiji: Curtis Scott injury the only bad news...

Spot on. It is completely accurate to say there are 6 AFL teams in Cairns, or 7 AFL teams in the Cairns District. Just thought it was a bit weird to talk about in Cairns for the AFL and then include a Port Douglas team for one code but not the other.

Quick fact check - there are 11 teams in the CDRL competition, not 5. Even if you were trying to do a like for like with Cairns only, you have included Port Douglas in the AFL competition, but excluded Mossman / Port Douglas from the rugby league competition. (Mossman, for those without local...
