    Nick Suban - When?

    Underappreciated post.

Free Kick differential (The Leigh Fisher effect)

Fair enough... though I think we'd still have gotten reamed against carlton even if the boys were wearing purple, given they were umpire favourites and we're the opposite, and malthouse was probably whinging ahead of time to get the umps onside.

Free Kick differential (The Leigh Fisher effect)

I'd have thought we'd wear the purple more at home, where our free kick count is usually more balanced... and we wear the white more often in away games, where we are often reamed. Seems more likely to me that it's about the venue rather than the colour.

Free Kick differential (The Leigh Fisher effect)

The following stat makes it a little clearer. Differential is where it's at, to help explain this one. Was the perfect storm... Golden Boys vs. the Pariahs. http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_team_rankings?year=2014&type=DA&sby=8 No idea why Carlton are so favoured by the umps. More than...

Ryan Crowley tests positive to banned substance (Opposition supporters tread carefully)

Indeed I did. Apologies. It was others in the thread I was trying to convince of his suitability as a tagger. Our debate was more whether we could afford to keep him on as depth. I'm glad we did.

As you say, Blakely has more of Mundy's size and movement... but has a pretty explosive sidestep. Mundy seems to hit the slowdown button on everyone else when he sidesteps... is very deceptive. Blakely is a more explosive lateral mover... and if he can learn Matrix-mode from Mundy we'll be...

    Chris Mayne, a liability?

Nice use of stats. You were being too diplomatic though; stealing your data... Heeney: 13 x 0.385 / 0.74 = 6.8 effective disposals per full game Blakely: 11 x 0.909 / 0.58 = 17.2 effective disposals per full game Lots of touches vs. lots of useful touches. Matt Priddis vs. Scott Pendlebury...

Ryan Crowley tests positive to banned substance (Opposition supporters tread carefully)

Nice summary... spot on. Good to see, clogged. I remember a prior discussion going quite differently. Possible weaknesses also... mightn't have as many tricks as Crowls, or as many tagging smarts yet as that's been Crowls' main job for a while now. Might also need a spell at the end of games...

    Autopsy Best 22 for 2015

Will make it tougher for sure... but he's rarely got much ball anyway. If he can negate his match-up, then the extras will be a bonus. Has different skills to Crowls, so will likely be a better fit onball that Crowls was. If Crowley was one of the three at a centre bounce then we may as well...

    Autopsy Best 22 for 2015

Reckon if crowls isn't playing as a tagger then he should be playing WAFL. Better options on a wing or HFF that he'd be taking the spot from. Would rather Mayne as a defensive HFF to crowls.

    Autopsy Best 22 for 2015

Wastes a lot of mzungu's skill set to use him as a negating tagger. Mz can play just about everywhere, and often is everywhere. If we play a negating tagger that isn't crowley... then I'd rather lose MDB's rather average attacking/linking talents rather than Mz's much more useful skill set.

Opinion Positional changes you would like to see in the NAB challenge

Barlow was the third guy of our top 3 inside mids that I mentioned... but didn't mention him by name. Reasoning being that if mundy and fyfe were playing elsewhere on the field, then barlow would be an absolute necessity onball.

I could handle having crozier move back maybe three seasons from now. But if he were to leave this year it'd gut me. We'd get sh!t all in return. Especially given where he is in his development life cycle. I bought my place 7 years before I moved into it with my future wife. Hopefully croz will...

Opinion Positional changes you would like to see in the NAB challenge

We definitely differ there. Without mundy and fyfe onball our inside ball winning and clearances fall away real fast. Lachie and suban aren't adequate replacements. Lachie... Not yet... Suban... Probably never. Cycling other guys through there makes sense, but deliberately leaving our two of our...

Crozier and sutty to get time on the wings. Weller to get a run on a hbf. Apeness to get time as a full forward with small chunks of time in the ruck.

sutty to hill. Or even better... MJ and duffield on the hbf to sutty and hill on the wings. In time it'd be nice if weller could fill duffield's hbf spot.

Toast RD Pick #13 - Welcome to Freo Ethan Hughes

Not really. Just means the talls we have on the list are solid enough that they can hold the fort while we pick the guys that'll hopefully give us the most value with the highest value picks. Not picking lever or goddard or durdin with our first rounder doesn't mean we think that apeness...

Toast RD Pick #48 - Welcome to Freo Sean Hurley

Yep, saw that. I thought he might have been a better fit as a rebounding third tall/flanker with his running capacity, and potential to develop into a good kick... but E Shed quite rightly pointed out the game-judgement that you need for that role, suggesting him playing a negating KPD role...

    Autopsy The theme is:

The thing is, there aren't that many spots for genuine (non-ruck) talls in the 22. Four out of 22 for genuine talls, and another two if you include third talls... and take one out if the backup ruck is doubling as one of the six. At most, 6/22 and those guys can typically only be used for those...

Just gave them an early start. Zac's style was always going to throw up opportunities for the deep thinkers to gripe, and to declare his spudliness. Makes it easier to identify them, so it's handy when weighting opinions on BF later on.

Or tall. Or flashy. Or fast. Very, very competent one-on-one defender though, and has developed his ability to rebound over the last couple of years. Club is very lucky to have him on the list, and for him to have stuck around.
