Why doesn't the AFLPA protect Milne in this instance? He clearly wasn't vilifying O'Brien (and if you think he was you're an imbecile, or biased or both) and in fact O'Brien reportedly took no offence to his comment. If the person you supposedly vilified isn't offended then what's the issue...
The greater issue here isn't whether or not we would've won the game, but Marghetts paying a free kick for something he THOUGHT he saw!
Note to ALL umpires; if you are unsure of what you saw, the correct call is 'play on', unless an umpire who DID see what you missed can intervene and make a...
1. I knew we couldn't win it once Chips put on the red vest... but I hoped we would still crack in, which we did.
2. Goddard and Kosi were huge! Stood up when we needed them to.
3. If Rhys Stanley marks inside 50, it's play on.
4. Milne can chase the ball whilst giving Shaun...
Saints supporters for the most part aren't really a 'booing' bunch; Bally's first game against us nobody said anything to him, though it looked like the whole game he was expecting it. If it were the other way round...
I agree totally with CHB. We've come out better off, so there's no...
Yeah, ease off Polo this week; I think he looked OK. He was unlucky to give away those two 50's, and got himself a weeks suspension for an incident that neither I nor the commentary seemed to catch.
Haha! If we dropped every bloke you couldn't kick straight to the VFL, we wouldn't have enough men left to field a team... and Sandy would have one hell of a CHF!
Also, the bias would be near impossible to measure accurately as there is no recorded stat for "Frees Not Paid".
Win or loss, I hate seeing the outcome affected by unnecessary umpire intervention.
Free kick differential of +11 in Port's favour.
50m Penalties 5-0 in Port's favour.
Free kicks were far too numerous anyway (thought we got a couple of dubious ones too, but was glad to get them), but the bias was hard to combat.
Re: Leadership Group announcement on Wednesday at 12.30pm
Firstly I have to admit, if I'm honest with myself, I don't think there's anyone younger than Roo that could be as strong a captain as he has been. Riewoldt is a champion, and that doesn't go away after one season of poor form.
The...
Well, I'm doing my bit - I made a Saints supporter come out of my Geelong-supporting wife.
'Little Saints' membership = $40; Grooming another generation of paid-up Saints members = priceless!
This has been mentioned here before (apologies for lack of credit but I couldn't be arsed trawling through posts looking for it) but the way Southampton FC sing our club song would drown out just about any opposition crowd:

I agree. There is upside in Polo; he has a lot of heart, goes in and under hard - but his skills (or lack of them) let him (and us) down.
He may be (like I'm expecting many others this year) a beneficiary of the discipline and focus a new coach provides. Here's hoping.
I have no issue with assistant coaches seeking opportunities elsewhere.
I don't doubt Harves' loyalty to the club; I think he recognised the reason he was eliminated from the Senior Coach race was inexperience at a coaching level, and has set about remedying that.
King has really felt like one...
2009 > 2011 > 2010
The new ISC collars are too wide to be white - looks a bit weak. I was disappointed when we went from the piping collar to the white one, but I think the black collar is an improvement. Added a touch of bad-ass.
I like Murraj's submission though - specifically the 3 colours...
Thanks for the clarification guys. I always (wrongly) thought Rookies and Veterans whole payments were outside the cap (and I had a total brain-fart about Gardi :o), didn't realise it was only a percentage that was exempt.
Is there a limit to how many players you can put on either list, or is...
Someone with a better understanding of these things please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Rookies and Veterans outside the Salary Cap, ie. their payments don't contribute to the Total Player Payments?
If this is the case, can I also assume that Rob Eddy was Rookie listed and that Gardi and...
Had every excuse for his form to taper this year after the horrendous off-season, but refused to be a victim, and seemed to use it to boost himself. To use a Coodabeens term, Dal just "Got on with the business".
Thoroughly deserved!
I struggle to fathom why there is so much dislike for this guy outside the club - he bleeds for his club and has thicker skin than anyone going around.
Maybe we should go Milney for Captain/Coach next year? :D
As I said, my opinion is certainly not a popular one with Saints fans (A shared hatred of Malthouse has been fairly universally enjoyed), but the point I was making is that I'm prepared to put it down to white line fever, and that things said in the heat of battle don't necessarily mean you have...
Probably fodder for another thread, but certainly nothing that hasn't been mentioned before. Disposal accuracy is killing us, this needs to be remedied; if not through training, through culling and recruiting. Maybe this also falls more into Pelchen's role in the absence of a senior coach.
But...
Using the Malthouse/Milne incident as reason why we won't get Mick to coach the Saints in 2012 is poor form - as if Milne isn't big enough to get past a little white-line-fever incident from more than a year ago! And as if Malthouse is still so hurt that he would drop our best forward over such...
I don't think there's much truth to the title of this thread, but it has raised an interesting point.
Ross' departure, and admission that negotiations have been ongoing for a number of months casts a shadow over the job he did with our group in 2011, and highlights a number of bizarre coaching...
A couple of days ago, when the rumours of the Melbourne deal were abounding and SEN reported Ross and the playing group were out to lunch in Beaumaris, I was sure he was gone. You don't take players out for a private lunch to say "OK, see you tomorrow", so I was convinced. That was two days ago...
Can't criticise the guy for his height can we? We knew his height when we picked him up!
We're all giants and short people in our forward line, and that's what got me excited about Gamble in the first place. Mid-sized, but can compete aerially too.
The question was; has he done enough? I think so...
This.
Also, is there any conclusion to be drawn that Zac had his best season with not only Max Hudghton waiting in the wings, but also Stephen Silvagni as defensive coach? Both have now left, and Zac is a shadow of that brilliant 2009 season he had?
A few people have mentioned his weight loss...
Perfect summation Squizz.
Teams like Geelong and Collingwood win a clearance, or a rebound 50, and the kick finds an open teammate! Doesn't seem that difficult, and in fact should be a fundamental skill of the game. Our kicks either find a pack contest, or the ground, or out-of-bounds, or my...
Just like Lenny was a lock for AA in 2010. Selectors ignored him, he went on to win the Norm and proved them wrong.
Not suggesting that'll happen here however (I wish :D).
It's impossible to track any kind of bias the umpires might have toward clubs or players reputations unless Champion Data start logging the stat of 'Frees Not Paid' where a blatant free kick in any normal situation is completely ignored. How many times have we seen our guys being held without...
