It's a different story having second rucks who can function as serviceable forwards such as Lycett and Vardy. Can't see teams playing 2 genuine rucks with not much else to offer.
That's why I struggle to see Preuss getting a game, haven't seen much evidence he can contribute much up forward...
The Smith one at the death was probably there, but with so many players around the ball I'm sure the umps couldn't have seen it perfectly. Plenty of dodgy decisions through the game, but overall thought they did pretty well.
As for the Saints last week, well if you're going to do short kicks...
I actually saw him take a mark in defensive 50m on the weekend. The ball was in the Crows 50m then the Swans got a fast break and for some reason he was in defensive 50m and got the intercept mark.
Must have been the start of the quarter and he was confused which way they were kicking :D
If I had to pick a side to play the last 5 minutes of a close game from the whole AFL, Burgoyne would be the first one I'd pick. Those close finishes he just always seems to find a way to be around the ball and impact the result.
Absolute bloody legend.
I don't mind that thinking, but only if he's in good enough form and if he's stays out of the forward 70m. Having an extra option for the bail-out kicks up the line would be useful, although if we're playing well enough we shouldn't be doing those anyway.
I want us to be not too tall up forward. The achilles heel for the Cats is their tall/slow/old backline. Already in NAB they've been carved up by small/medium mobile forwards (Fasolo and Mayne). Bruest kicked 3 and 5 against them last year. Hodge a bag of 4. Rioli a bag of 6. Poppy a bag...
That's exactly what he needs to be doing but at AFL level in 2016. It's hard to see him doing it though, that's a big step from doing it in VFL. Hopefully he has a full preseason, gets some opportunities in the preseason games and earns some early opportunities - hopefully not just handed...
Needs a big year in the VFL and maybe 3 quality games in the AFL for a pass mark in 2016. Sicily has moved past him and Grimley outperforming him in the VFL.
That's bare minimum and really he needs to play 12 games, average a goal per game, 12 disposals and 4 marks a game. If he can't do that...
To be honest, it's hard to see anyone who stands out:
Freo - If it wasn't for their home ground advantage and soft draw in the 2nd half of the season they would have been lucky to be top 4, some very luck results in there. At best I can see them being at the same level next year which is not...
No. Say Melbourne bid 3 with Mills. Sydney give up the points and effectively are given pick 3 and everyone drops down a spot and Melbourne then have pick 4 and we have 16 and 19.
It's not really dropping a spot as the reality is these are restricted-access players anyway. So if you're...
I'm happy with what we've done. You'd think the best available midfielder we can get at 15. Spend 18 on another midfielder if there's no really good defenders left. 55 and 58 on a speculative big defender and midfielder. Would like to see us get a nimble inside mid and a big-bodied type mid...
Really like this move, fits the hole brilliantly. I remember watching a couple of his games in 2013 and was really impressed and thought he was going to be a permanent fixture in the Demons team.
He didn't come on from there, injury and opportunity I suppose. They favoured Spencer, Jamar and...
There's so much hype about the Cats now being top 4 and their premiership window being open. Personally I'm tipping them not to make finals. Here's a suggested best 22 from the Hun:
B: Andrew Mackie, Tom Lonergan, Jackson Thurlow - Mackie at the end. Lonergan still going ok, Thurlow needs to...

This contains the list of point values for each draft pick and a couple of examples of how it works too.
Say this year - Sydney have Mills. Sounds like with the bidding process Gold Coast will bid for him with...
Maybe offer our first-round this year. Add in 2nd-round for next year if needed. By the sounds of it a pick around the 20 mark won't get a lot this year but might be OK next year. Maybe dangle a player - Suckling, Anderson perhaps to sweeten the deal.
Aish is a gun and will be a very good...
I was so glad we didn't hang on to him at the time. At the end of 2012 I was 50-50. By the end of 2013 I was 100% confident I didn't want him to stay. He's not worth spending $1mil a year, especially when you play him more up the ground like we did in 2013.
If we were only paying him $700k...
Rumour is he got 2 with us and 1 with Swans. Penalty for 3 strikes I believe is $5000 fine (like he'll care...) and 18 matches. So that can't be the sole reason for him retiring (if indeed he does).
I wonder if the AFL tried to intervene with the deal and subsequently cracked down on the COLA...
It's all up to us. We play near our best and we will win comfortably, regardless of how well Freo playthey just can't match us. Conditions look dry and not slippery/moist like in the QF so I think our ball movement will be much better this week.
Hawks by 44.
Exactly. Clear proof it hit the boot as the rotation clearly changed. Great call by the goal umpire, great camera work by the broadcaster. And some moron in the box ****s it up!
Definitely Lake on Jenkins and Frawley on Tex. Both are needed this week.
Problem is that leaves Gibbo on Lynch and takes Gibbo away from the 50m. They might have to play a rolling type role where Birch takes Lynch when up the ground and Gibbo stays closer to home. Birch is probably tall...
I hear a lot of people say how much they like Ling on commentary. I can't stand the bloke, he makes me want to throw the remote at the TV. If there was an alternative to channel 7 I'd take it in a heartbeat. His comments on replays are especially annoying
The best one tonight was the one not...
I can see now why we had to wear our clash strip. I can see how the yellow of the umps could have been confused with our gold. With us in our clash strip they could clearly see which side they were on.
Tend to agree. Whilst the others have been good there's too much competition.
Forward line will be JJK, Wingard, Betts, Higgins, Riewoldt and Swan.
Rance, Hurley and McGovern will get picked in the backline before Gibbo.
Lewis has been good, but plenty of others have been better - Martin...
Isaac Smith's best games this year:
Dogs - 36 touches
Suns - 30
GWS - 29 (Loss)
Port - 29 (Loss)
$wans - 28 (Loss)
North - 27
Tigers - 27 (Loss)
Port - 26 (Loss)
Is Izzy our anti-barometer?
Sammy deserves it. He's been super all year. He'll be voteless up to round 5 but could potentially score in almost every game from then on.
Hodge will get plenty of votes too. The big thing is there's no-one else to steal votes. Shiels won't get noticed. Lewis has plenty of the ball but no...
In:
Hale - assume he's right to go
Litherland - hasn't done a lot wrong, not sure why others (Suckers, Duryea) keep getting picked ahead of him
Langford - need another look before finals
Sicily (or Grimley) - we need a 2nd tall up forward, Hale provides that but be nice to know one of these guys...
