For me Libba has earned the benefit of the doubt until the evidence that he's done is insurmountable.
His form absolutely dipped in the back half of the year. Whether that was from fatigue or the inevitable decline, time will tell.
One thing is for sure, though: we asked too much of him last...
Wide range of opinions on JOD here - I have another again. I thought his first year was very impressive playing a tough role, but thought 2024 was actually a step backwards if anything. I don't think he improved noticeably, which is a slight worry. Still think he can be a good player but I'm not...
I haven't had time to do a deep dive into the players, so I have no thoughts on them as yet, but I love the strategy.
We needed to bring through a bunch of youth - tick. The strategy to bring forward picks from next year to load up this year reflected a strong identification of where our list...
Started FF7 Rebirth after sitting on it for a while. Just like the first it's a phenomenal game - but man, the movement annoys me to no end. Either give me full control or improve your obstacle recognition so I don't have to run into invisible walls before your game realises I should vault it...
I'm not necessarily saying something was done wrong - we'll never know. I'm just saying that brushing it off would be doing a disservice to advancing as a club. Coaches should always be reflecting on what did and didn't work and what the consequences of their actions were.
I'm not bothered by the comments, but I hope there are some coaches thinking about them and reflecting on whether they are always communicating the right message. Daniel was still best 23 for most of the season, and a best 23 player shouldn't be left feeling like they weren't trusted... let...
I've not seen any vision, but our picks seem to be in good positions list fit wise. Around 17, Hotton, Lindsay, Trainor and Berry all sound like good fits. Dattoli, Oliver, Gross, Hannaford and Moraes sound nice at 25. Any of these people would recommend I watch some vision of?
I'm not quite there yet with Gags. Showed flashes this year and has good attributes, but needs to find a way to get more involved in the game. Good signs, but not a sure thing yet imo.
Huh? He averaged 33.85 disposals with 77% CBA in 2021. Even if you take the biggest number above, 48%, that's roughly one third less centre bounces. 20 disposals is a touch below two thirds of 34. Those stats actually suggest he can still rack them up which runs counter to your point.
You can do what you like. You should do so knowing that the things you say affect the lives of others, though.
I will continue to call out harmful rhetoric when I see it. What you choose to do with that is up to you.
The media are filthy, blood-sucking, ambulance-chasing pieces of shit, granted.
We don't need to continue to perpetuate harmful stereotypes in response, though. We can be and do better.
This is an extremely harmful and stigmatising misconception of mental health issues that costs lives. Outwardly appearing 'fine' or 'happy' to random outsiders is not at all a reliable indicator of somebody's internal mental state or struggles.
They are short-term oriented moves, however, when the premise of your argument was that we are 'refreshing' the list with young talent. The Barass one in particular would have been a head scratcher as a contracted player who would require a pretty good amount of draft capital to extract from...
How many of XOH/Kennedy/Harmes/West/Weightman/Vandermeer/McNeil/Treloar/Gallagher/Garcia can we realistically play though?
Not having a go, I'm just trying to work out why these two players are our clearest targets because their fit isn't intuitive for me.
Defensive to replace Vandermeer? Ground level skills to replace McNeil? Or neither, really?
Kennedy strikes me as a very similar player to West which I suspect is going to be an unpopular selection quandary next year.
What can people tell me about XOH? Strengths/weaknesses, where does he play, who does he replace, ceiling, etc.
I have watched him play several times but he has never stood out on any level, which is part of why I feel hesitant.
So it's looking like
IN: Kennedy, O'Halloran, pick ~17, pick ~25, late pick, rookie pick/DFA/open spot
OUT: Smith, Daniel, Macrae, Bedendo, Keath, Rypstra (r)
?
Man, that's... gonna take me a while to stomach emotionally.
If we are indeed flipping the Macrae compo for Kennedy and likely the Daniel compo for XOH, taking one draft pick inside 30 (Geelong's first) is a bit of a deflating outcome. Hopefully something happening behind the scenes there.
