Apologies in advance for the self-indulgence of this post, but last time I disappeared I had a few people wondering where I'd gone, and I know that it can be concerning when people just vanish suddenly after being active posters (And, to be fair, I need the likes. I'm extremely close to...
I agree that Ahern has potential in that role, but Laird is a multiple All-Australian half back. He's on a completely different level to Ahern. It's also yet to be determined if Ahern is consisently defensively competent enough to play in the back half. Ahern may end up more damaging, but Laird...
They might be throwing names up who are potentially available, but this off-season with the staff turnover we've had and all that, I expect it's Rhyce that is doing the majority of the discussions with players he wants.
Yeah, agreed.
Sorry, JLC, but that's ridiculous. He racks up the pill and has excellent skills, but he's actually a very good defender too who's capable of playing a bit taller if he needs to.
As I said, very good small defender, but also 353 meters gained a match this season, which is...
Pretty sure Champion Data have Gaff down as one of the worst, or least effective might be a better way to put it, kicks in the game. It was part of an interesting discussion a while ago on that Trends podcast with Marc McGowan. A lot of players that you wouldn't expect to see as the 'worst'...
**** Joel Selwood is such a campaigner. He's a ****ing sook and he always has that whinging look on his face, lookign at the umps after every time he gets tackled as if he should be getting a free just for being touched.
Hope WC win by 5 goals here.
He's a ~30 goal forward. I get that there aren't that many smalls that get that many, but still, it's 30 goals. He's not a dominant mid or a match winner. A pick in the high teens/early 20s is as much as I would want us to pay.
Just thinking, imagine we got Laird (if he's available) for our first and then Papley for, say, Wood and 25 (or Wood and 25 goes elsewhere for a pick in the teens and we trade that pick for Papley). We would address arguably our two biggest weaknesses in the one trade period.
Our first pick this year should be nowhere near the Papley deal. He's worth 20-30 imo. Maybe something involving Wood could work. Wood and our 2nd (currently 25) for Papley and a 4th or a future 3rd would be fair for both parties.
As would I, but honestly I'm not sure even that would be enough. He's probably the best player in his position in the league and he'll still only be 26 next year, entering his prime.
Pretty sure in one of the recent articles about one of the new acquisitions, it said that they would be helping Jarred Moore with the stoppages. Maybe the Scotland article? In any case, I'm fairly sure one of them explicitly mentioned that he would be here next season, so I don't think there's a...
The budget will be interesting. Apparently Amazon aren't concerned with throwing significant amounts of cash into their original series. It looks like they're going for quality, not quantity. And the special effects in The Boys were pretty good, so I'll be interested to see how they deal with...
Sounds like he might have taken some MD or did some coke on the weekend and has then shat himself when ASADA has rolled in a couple of days later, thinking it might still be in his system.
It's staggering that players aren't comprehensively educated about the different punishments for a...
Nice shout. He's a great player. I'd probably take McGovern ahead of him though.
I think the best thing about the Eagles' defence though is the collective. They complement each other and know exactly what they're supposed to be doing at any point in the game. They must know each other's games...
We're going to look completely different on-field next season with this much change. Anyone who had concerns re needing a new message to the players, that has well and truly been addressed this off-season. It will be fascinating to see how the players adapt because it will have been the most...
Is Pyke someone we could look at to fulfill that mentor/director coaching (or whatever it is) role that Shaw seems to want, or is he irretrievably tainted by what's happened at the Crows the last two years?
Geez, Rory Laird would be an incredible addition. He's probably the best in his position in the league and it's a position we need. I would gladly trade 7 to get him in.
I'm sure they did. It was probably said when he made the All Australian squad, or maybe when he racked up his 3rd 22under22 appearance in a row, or maybe even when he was a premiership player. I'm sure someone has written those words on BigFooty before.
Really? Durds is four years younger and showed this year, at least imo, that he has what it takes to be a solid AFL player, although I've always been a believer. Keath has played 30 games. Yeah, he might be the better player atm, but that's massive overs.
If you look at the non-KPPs in that group off the top of my head, Garner, Jacobs and Wood all have question marks over their future for one reason or another. The only players that are clearly better and/or more physically reliable than him are Dumont and Polec.
Dumont is probably the most...
Yeah, I agree that that's the way ideal list management would work. Don't get me wrong, I actually think he would be best 22, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm saying go get him. The reason why I do think he would be of value though is that we lack experienced AFL players in that sort of...
Well, no, because that doesn't remotely resemble what I posted. Also, he's played 21 games for them this year and for someone who, in your words, "could hardly get a game last year," he played 18 in 2018 before getting dropped for finals, which he hasn't been this year.
I just said that if he's...
