Preview Changes R16 vs North Melbourne

I don't like it even as a player management tactic. Any team can get you if you're off the boil or have some unlucky injuries and the structure is stretched, 2024 Roos included.

Where does Marcus Bontempelli sit in the players of this era

For careers since 2000 - GAJ, Franklin, Martin, Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Judd IMO are the most likely walk up legend selections on playing careers alone and sit above Bont right now. Pavlich and Enright should sit in this category as well IMO, but I'm less sure with their selections. Bont is...

Prediction The Run Home- The next six Games and beyond

Essendon have 3 bankable games and Fremantle have two, depending on form either team could fall to 12.5 wins. Port Adelaide and GWS (less likely, good percentage) are the two others most likely to fall each with two bankable wins and could fall to 13 wins. Geelong has minimum four bankable wins...

If the VFL/AFL greatest team of all time, was selected today, who is in, and who is out of the team of the century

Not at all to my mind and I was open to replacing any player in the team. Both had 3 x AA carnival selections as two of five only. They have their equals/competition in other state leagues, but in a VFL/AFL greatest team I think they are worthy selections.

If the VFL/AFL greatest team of all time, was selected today, who is in, and who is out of the team of the century

I was definitely trying to make a case for someone like Enright, but as a pure back pocket not general or key defender the only contest I can see is fellow Brownlow winner Gavin Wanganeen. I've got Enright competing as the third defender with Paul Roos for that second back pocket in the role of...

If the VFL/AFL greatest team of all time, was selected today, who is in, and who is out of the team of the century

I won't deny Martin's greatness in the modern game, but his finals record is unlikely unique in the full history of the game and likely sits with at least a few others who played in the great dynasty teams. The Norm Smith Medal is a relatively modern accolade and I think the Gary Ayres medal...

If the VFL/AFL greatest team of all time, was selected today, who is in, and who is out of the team of the century

Era bias and out of position players are quite obvious in the side. With an extra 30 years this makes going back to correct these even harder with at least one original glaring omission to my mind being Albert Collier and as years have passed Tony Lockett as well. How the best player of "The...

If the VFL/AFL greatest team of all time, was selected today, who is in, and who is out of the team of the century

For these exercises I enjoy uncovering players of the past I didn't know much about, a study in the history of the game if you will. A side benefit is learning what kind of accolades and type of star player might come along in the future to put themselves up in these discussions. All of bit of...

    Opinion Our Club Song

Me neither on that particular line of wording. Should be Bulldogs bite and Bulldogs claw (Dog puns) otherwise Bulldogs fight and supporters roar. Song in general is fine with me, not the best but not the worst by any stretch.

Autopsy The Good (lol!) The Bad and the Beveridge.

To be honest I'd argue it's still the best starting four in the competition, without Smith and Macrae we did ok. In hindsight the starting 2021 GF midfield probably had three future legends (Gawn, Bont, Oliver) and two HOF (Petracca, Macrae). Three blokes called Libba, Viney and English go...

Strategy Trade and List management Thread Part 6 (opposition supporters - READ posting rules before posting)

Macrae will probably go at 50% CBA with Smith out when he comes back healthy bringing those numbers back to normal. Low 80's is generally the absolute maximum over a season and being an exception, so Bont and Libba were redlining for sure. If Macrae is out extended please find me a link to an...

What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

Agree swapping out Lobb for an average small won't help. This actually what is the most worrying because the coaching staff already knew this which is also why the presser was both helpful in honesty and concerning from Bevo. Everything we are now throwing out in the comments are pretty...

What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

Yep Brisbane previously did use the current GWS strategy of three talls, two and mega tall only possible if Big O resting forward. Now it's only a two prong tall forward line with McStay gone to better success. For the record GWS only used a two prong tall line in the prelim last year when it...

Wouldn't be great if the season is already cooked by that stage because last time I checked cellar dwelling and rebuilds don't: Win AA rucks premierships Sell Monster Energy drinks Put young star forwards on the biggest stages

What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

Yes I believe they are more mobile and that we are uniquely different as a POD at least this year so far (see 2023 Blues), therefore no Jamaicans required just an extra quality small or defensive fwd. The strategy isn't a basket case and can stretch defences in many games but over a season and...

What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2024/03/18/i-reckon-theres-confusion-david-king-outlines-his-areas-of-concern-at-the/ I'm glad Kingy has called out our overly tall forward line which is now in the media spotlight early. I'm sure the club and coach were already well aware of this uncompetitive...

Autopsy The Good (lol!) The Bad and the Beveridge.

Poor guy hasn't had any room to move since Rd 21, 2022, I'm surprised he hasn't got claustrophobia with JUH, Naughton and Lobb/Darcy all playing in the same forward line.

Autopsy The Good (lol!) The Bad and the Beveridge.

Yep one of JUH, Naughton and Lobb/Darcy has to go out of the forward line. Either Naughton goes back, JUH goes to the wing or the Lobb/Darcy role is removed from the 22 and we use someone like Keith or JOD as a backup ruck.
  21. Frewy

Autopsy The Good (lol!) The Bad and the Beveridge.

I struggle to believe the 3rd forward using a non-mobile ruck strategy wasn't flagged in review which leads me to believe we are still rolling it out for ulterior reasons. After all the changes in the off-season there is no way it could be just Bevo on this one, so to my mind it has to be a...

Autopsy The Good (lol!) The Bad and the Beveridge.

The correct answer is yes. None of last years top 4 teams have more than two tall forwards with most using one as a backup ruck. Fremantle are the other team that could potentially have the Dogs problem in their manning, but ironically have just knocked of Brisbane with one key ruck and forward...

Autopsy The Good (lol!) The Bad and the Beveridge.

Yes, it failed at the first hurdle against quality opposition as opposed to Hawthorn practice matches. Out ran by a slower Melbourne team than in years past and conceded 109 points against a team that often struggles to buy goals against quality opposition. I think the main priority is removing...

Autopsy The Good (lol!) The Bad and the Beveridge.

That about sums it up with the addition Buku struggled with the long minutes in the fourth quarter and to be honest a still somewhat confusing passage on the Sanders substitution.

    Training 2024 Pre-season training

I hope he can hold down a spot in the 22 this year permanently. He's a good size at 194 cm and if he can take that wing/mid rotation role and make it his own then we should see less magnet rotation this year. When I looked at our side before trade period I was extremely worried about how many...

What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

True Footy just put out his Every AFL Club's PASS Mark for 2024 . In my opinion it's 7-8 pass, 5-6/finals win great season, top 4/prelim excellent season. If we go top 2/GF commence commissioning of Bevo statue at Whitten oval. For the record I'm not on the Kane Cornes train when it comes to...

AFL Team of the 21st Century (Rolling)

Yep it's Cox, Gawn and daylight in the modern era, personally I have Gawn just ahead on achievements. An interesting side note is that Cox played the first half of his career before the 2005 ruck rule change to 10m and won all of his AA post that change. As far as I am concerned that change had...

    Opinion 2023 AFL Draft Prospects

I think there could be some value in taking South Australians this year with the lack of draft picks available to the SA teams. I like the look of both Kane McAuliffe and Bodie Ryan if they slip at our late picks. Port are probably hoping to use 72 on one of these guys when McAuliffe is hard...

AFL Team of the 21st Century (Rolling)

Agreed which is why I still don't include Lockett. Unfortunately him and Carey would likely have been ineligble for the Centenary team as both had large chunks of career missing so would have to be considered in the next 2096 Centenary team (if relevant), 2090 AFL Centenary team (if created) or...

    Opinion 2023 AFL Draft Prospects

Cheers for Rachele, much like Rankine and a couple of the others he sits around that more versatile 180 cm. It appears though that we have never seen anyone under 175 cm go under Pick#12 which both Cyril and Kozzie went at. Either the recruiters and draft experts have changed their risk...
