Big Adam Campbell was a kiwi who only started playing the game when he was about 17. He only played about 20 games for the Dockers though - two knees ruined his career. Trent Croad is another kiwi who of course played more than 50 games but he migrated when he was much younger.
Not sure on the Blakely straight in but on Cerra hasn't he been really good last few weeks? Really starting to stick tackles as well as his decision making and normally very good use. Emergence of him, Matera and Switkowski been a real bonus for us this year. Brayshaw I think seems down on...
Agree to disagree Salim. Have watched every game this year twice and can think of a number of our players on our list who could play his role just as well on the defensive side and then not be that liability with ball in hand - although various of those injured till now. Assuming we have most...
You don't want to see too many changes to that team but some are forced and Conca needs to be replaced - he is playing Blakelys role and IMO stinking it up with his poor decision making and kicking causing turnovers and costing us goals each week. Blakely though has no WAFL match practice so...
Fantastic player and bloke is the Barra. Super consistent at such a high level, my youngest has #16 on his jumper for several years now and choosing between him and Sonny is like asking a parent which kid you love most.
And every time when Maurice Jnr is playing for Richmond the commentators other than Dennis and maybe BT will talk about how good Maurice Snr was for Richmond without ever mentioning Souths just to annoy you more IP...
We have a large excess of rucks and Strnadica is out of contract. He has shown a bit as forward/ruck I think just needs to build up and would prefer to keep versus Meek, Apeness or Jones but they have contracts. Delist and re-rookie? End of next year and we probably should be shedding 3 rucks...
Is it just me or was Ryans recent sentencing for the DUI overly late as well. Conveniently AFTER the GF after pressure/delays by the Eagles?
A move on notice is nothing really, barely newsworthy even for a footballer but funny how eagles supporters can still try to take the high moral ground...
Some rumours I have heard about the Hogan interview with Freo seem to fit with the 'Due Diligence' comment by Bell and Langdon's comments.
If true (and others from same source have been) leaving him at Melbourne is not surprising but of course Media witch hunt from Victoria is all about how Freo...
Given Melbourne were insistent on two 1st round picks, the price was too much. Would have meant trading Neale to get the other, maybe missing out on Lobb and having no picks until the mid 20s at least.
Much better if we convince Lachie to stay if we can, get Lobb and wait another year for...
Conca does not inspire me. Lobb would be good but a) raises the Q again why we drafted Jones and b) why do we always chase decent players with a year or more still on their contract.
Hoping Belly gets in and sorts the Lachie situation out and gets everyone in line and on focus.
Jones -> Tabs
Giro -> Crowden or Ballantyne
Suttcliffe (inj) -> Bennell
Sheridan -> Kersten
Giro is losing confidence and disposal and decision making is getting worse. Needs a mental break, go back and practice more in the WAFL.
Tabs even if underdone will be a better option than Jones...
With Fyfe and Blakely injured we need a strong bodied mid. Tom North or Hughes would be options to try if fit. Hughes has talent and you could see him improving. Has to be given time, especially if he has been injured.
Brisbane have some quality talls and after losing 211 we just couldn't match that at all.
Plus general lack of fire and run and skills from essentially all post bye with possible exception of Mundy and Neale and it was a bad combination.
Plus we always struggled with the Hawthorn game plan and...
With Banfield being released a bit more is he meant to be playing a role as a bit more of a defensive forward? I don't have a replay to see who he was playing on most of the time.
Very impressed by the level of his awareness in traffic to take the right option. While other players go the bomb into the forward line the little souvlaki just spots up a short option like he did for Matera, Mundy or Cox(?). As a winger or half forward flanker he has serious potential for us...
Looking forward to seeing him later in the year hopefully.
Bit sad that our line of Tassy players in recent years (AP, Dixon, Grey) who hopefully have less go home factor than Vic kids will end soon with North having first dibs.
I said it last week and will say it again - MJ should have played forward to address our issues there and Kersten replace him in the backline to see what he can bring in his new role while Logue is still coming back from injury. You could probably drop Ballas for that change. MJ has dropped...
We need another tall but the cupboard is bare. Tabs, Darcy, Dixon injured, Nads getting better but needs another season in WAFL, Apeness needs another half season in WAFL coming off his long lay off.
MJ is looking a liability these days in defence. Would actually favour playing Kersten in his...
Lot will be decided by injuries. If Wilson is back, Ballas injured and Walters not back I would consider playing MJ forward to give us three talls there on the small SCG ground plus a more mobile defense. Hughes could also be an option instead of Duman or Nyhuis depending on MC decision.
Need...
I have thought for some time that Gaff will leave WC at end of season. WC will manage something for Kelly you would think even if it involves a 2nd Melbourne Club who Gaff prefers over Geelong.
Don't think that will ever be his thing though and you risk sacrificing his agility for it. Better to have one or two decent real talls deeper like Tabs was doing and Cam McCarthy plays further up the ground marks on a lead and then can deliver inside 50. He is a beautiful field kick and ideal...
Agree but my concern with Cox was he looked damn slow across the ground. Hope I am wrong and it was just first game against a fast side but was concerning. With Dixon+Tabs injured, Strndica still developing (skinny as) and Apeness being maybe slower than Cox is the one to persist with for now...
Despite this there is a lot of denial on the slime board - very funny. Hope he appeals and gets two weeks instead. Dangerous technique combined with too much momentum puts the neck at a lot of risk.
Apparently it is because the rye grass although seeded has not come through yet which will soften it. They are banning the clubs training there so the grow lamps can go at it etc. Should be better in about a month apparently and after that should basically stay that way. Just because it is a...
Yep Hughes or maybe Cox could do a better job ATM than MJ and it is looking forwards if we do. Plus with Logue coming back later on seems reasonable to give Hughes a go now - did very little wrong in games last year and is AFL ready.
Nyhuis showed some class and smarts as a forward for Peel...
