The AFL world owes Geelong & St Kilda alot

Well, what was intended as a big pat on the back for the Geelong Football Club and the St Kilda Football club has been perceived as as swipe at Sydney. This was not the intention. Sydney's game plan was built on all over the ground defence. Not a 'flood' as such, but more focussed on...

The AFL world owes Geelong & St Kilda alot

People, for some reason, seem to want to believe that Sydney lacked talent in 05/06. Goodes, Hall, O'Keefe, Barry, O'Loughlin, Ball, Jolly, Williams, Kirk, Bolton to name just a few, were all in the top 4 or 5 at their position in the comp during that time.

The AFL world owes Geelong & St Kilda alot

There was certainly no disrespect intended to Sydney and their style of play in my post. It was more the cheap imitations that followed that was creating the hideous mess that we called 'the AFL' for a period there.

The AFL world owes Geelong & St Kilda alot

Thank god for Geelong. Only 3 years ago the AFL was doomed. Teams copying the Sydney style of footy was crippling the comp. Thankfully, Geelong stepped up to the plate and nailed a game plan that the purists can enjoy once again! And any prospective footy follower can sit down and watch...

St Kilda fans should be proud !..not ashamed

I must say I have a very healthy respect for Geelong after Saturday. We knew they were a great team, but the way they handled victory was outstanding. Chapman's acceptance speech was brilliant. Very humble, respectful, and extremely classy. Well done Cats.

    Was Chapman Right? *MB Thread*

Re: Was Chapman Right? ? If the Saints roll the Cats this week, it will be 1 flag each, and 2 pre-season flags each. The only real deciding factor would be the fact that the Saints would have beaten them in a GF. How would that make Geelong better?

    Was Chapman Right? *MB Thread*

This is it folks. Was that fat bald diver Paul Chapman correct when he shot his mouth off back in 2004? Are the Cats better than the Saints? We once and for all will put an end to the debate this Saturday. This is it Cats and Saints fans - what Chapman right? Or will he be proven wrong?

2009 GF - Stagers vs. Divers

Ok, so we'll take that as a 'St Kilda will be better off' then?

2009 GF - Stagers vs. Divers

Answer the question man! Who would be better off if the umps put the whistle away this Saturday? I think it's a very interesting question to be posing. Geelong rely heavily on getting frees, and it seems according to the masses - the Saints relied on them to get to the GF.

2009 GF - Stagers vs. Divers

What a joke the footy public are. Seriously, anyone who doubts the idiocy and stupidity of the football public need look no further than the latest popular footy myth - Riewoldt is a diver!! My god. The AFL and the media must just sit back and giggle at how easily led and easily preyed...

The Return of Grand Final Thuggery?

What do you think? Could this week's GF be the one where we go back to the good/bad old days? Mooney has already spoken about targetting Riewoldt's knee, and with snipers like Scarlett running around could we maybe see some legitimate fireworks? Could Steven Baker target a skirter like...

Riewoldt Favoured by Umps??? You're kidding me.

Soft? Why is cowardly taking out an opponent who isn't looking, off the ball, considered a tough part of the game that should be protected??
  13. Violent Stool

Riewoldt Favoured by Umps??? You're kidding me.

Correct. And when you do what Roo does, and as well as he does, 90% of the time the defender infringes. The umpires however don't pay them. Hence my amazement at him being seen as a fave of the umps. Just ridiculous.

Riewoldt Favoured by Umps??? You're kidding me.

Oh jesus. You're not one of these people who think an even free kick count equals as well umpired game are you? Those stats don't mean, say, or prove anything.
  15. Violent Stool

Riewoldt Favoured by Umps??? You're kidding me.

Wrong. Simply factually incorrect. As I said above, when a player initiates contact, as Franklin often does (with one on one strength being a key asset of his) the umps are reluctant to pay them. Main reason it's often unclear. Not saying it's right, but it's what happens...

Riewoldt Favoured by Umps??? You're kidding me.

Riewoldt runs and jumps at contests more than other key forwards. Most key forwards these days get into one-on-ones. These are difficult to adjudicate as both players are focussed on the other player, and often contact is initiated by the forward. Riewoldt leads players to the ball and...

Riewoldt Favoured by Umps??? You're kidding me.

This is just staggering. I'm hearing that Riewoldt is a favourite of the umps. It's becoming a standard line trotted out by ignorant non-Saints fans. Favoured???? Jesus. I'd hate to see what his opponents would be able to do to him if he was disliked by the umps!! F**k me. I counted 5...

    Why all the 'Saint Hate'?

Re: To all you muppets bleating about the saints win He may be referring to taking a player out behind play, when that player's back is turned. 'Cowardice', I believe the term for it is.

    Three things....

Why is the umpire - or even more to the point Riewoldt and the Saints, being blamed for Lake's cowardice and stupidity?

    Why all the 'Saint Hate'?

Why is everyone so anti-Saints this year? I can understand the Collingwood and Geelong fans having little tantrums that the Saints got up last night - they're shiit scared and are bitter cause they both thought they had the Dogs' measure. But why everyone else? Even Gary Lyon was...

    Three things....

It's the 'truest' thing you've heard. The Dogs tried to be 'tough' off the ball with whimpy sniping shepherds ala Collingwood, they tried to rough up Riewoldt and a few other players. It didn't work. When it came down to it, when the game was there to be won, physically Riewoldt outran his...

    Three things....

The Dogs didn't deserve to win anything. They weren't good enough. They aren't tough enough mentally, or physically. They were beaten by a side that has now had their measure 3 times this year. You only deserve to win a game of football - particularly a final, if when the final siren...

For what it's worth, I saw 4 blatant infringements against Riewoldt that were not paid by the umpire.

Time to Start Lauding Achievements other than Premierships

I don't really care if they're recognised at all. It's more of an observation that our culture for some reason in our National sport, no longer allows us to celebrate anything other than a flag. We've become just so massively obsessed with it, to the point that nothing else in the sport is...

Time to Start Lauding Achievements other than Premierships

Our pre-season comp was once recognised as a great achievement. Somewhere along the line, we became too 'cool' to celebrate this - because it's not a flag. What about the Brownlow? Why celebrate one player having a great year, when every player's goal is to win the flag. If they don't play...

Time to Start Lauding Achievements other than Premierships

I'm not referring to trophies and awards. But more the concept of the Aussie Rules culture that 'anything other than a flag is a failure'. The FA Cup and Champions League etc. are nothing in comparison to the Premiership - however they are taken very seriously and celebrated when won. I...

Time to Start Lauding Achievements other than Premierships

In horse racing there are 3 place getters. In the Olympics they award medals for coming 2nd and 3rd. Hell, then even include these in the Official Medal Count! In the soccer, they have plenty of 'consolation prize' comps throughout the year that clubs get excited about and party hard if...

Time to Start Lauding Achievements other than Premierships

It's a real shame that Geelong may only be remembered as a 'good' team. They had a history making success rate over 3 seasons, finished on top twice - but only won 1 premiership. Port Adelaide the same. Minor premiers for 2 years but just the 1 flag. Essendon in 2000 with their freakish...

Has a team ever won a flag without any premiership players?

So only 3 teams in living memory have won the flag without any premiership players. The interesting thing is, 2 of them (North and WC) finished top 2 the prior year. Collingwood finished 5th in 1989 (in a final 5), then beat the team that finished on top in 1990 in a GF, with no premiership...

Has a team ever won a flag without any premiership players?

So it's pretty rare. Three times in over 25 years! Even rarer in the modern era.
