People, for some reason, seem to want to believe that Sydney lacked talent in 05/06. Goodes, Hall, O'Keefe, Barry, O'Loughlin, Ball, Jolly, Williams, Kirk, Bolton to name just a few, were all in the top 4 or 5 at their position in the comp during that time.

There was certainly no disrespect intended to Sydney and their style of play in my post. It was more the cheap imitations that followed that was creating the hideous mess that we called 'the AFL' for a period there.

Thank god for Geelong. Only 3 years ago the AFL was doomed. Teams copying the Sydney style of footy was crippling the comp. Thankfully, Geelong stepped up to the plate and nailed a game plan that the purists can enjoy once again! And any prospective footy follower can sit down and watch...

I must say I have a very healthy respect for Geelong after Saturday. We knew they were a great team, but the way they handled victory was outstanding. Chapman's acceptance speech was brilliant. Very humble, respectful, and extremely classy. Well done Cats.

Answer the question man! Who would be better off if the umps put the whistle away this Saturday? I think it's a very interesting question to be posing. Geelong rely heavily on getting frees, and it seems according to the masses - the Saints relied on them to get to the GF.

Correct. And when you do what Roo does, and as well as he does, 90% of the time the defender infringes. The umpires however don't pay them. Hence my amazement at him being seen as a fave of the umps. Just ridiculous.

Wrong. Simply factually incorrect. As I said above, when a player initiates contact, as Franklin often does (with one on one strength being a key asset of his) the umps are reluctant to pay them. Main reason it's often unclear. Not saying it's right, but it's what happens...
