NO TROLLS Hawthorn Racism Review - Sensitive issues discussed.

I was responding to the the notion that if Clarkson was stood down, Hawks should pay compo (ie a draft pick) to North for their loss. I certainly wasn't comparing the Melbourne situation with these allegations.

NO TROLLS Hawthorn Racism Review - Sensitive issues discussed.

Draft sanctions are really the only thing that hurts clubs long term. Financial penalties look bad, but then clubs just get the money back from the AFL if they in financial trouble. Coach suspensions hurt for the short term. Miss 3 drafts, and that sets you back long term. Just ask the Crows.

NO TROLLS Hawthorn Racism Review - Sensitive issues discussed.

Like when Dean Bailey and Chris Connolly were suspended while at other clubs for "not tanking"? Meanwhile, there were no non-financial penalties to Melbourne, the CEO wasn't penalised and the club didn't lose any draft picks?

    Holding the man rule

Completely agree. The time players have to move the ball on either by dropping it, throwing it, kicking, handballing or just running while being tackled is ridiculous. I've seen players spun 720 degrees and still no decision. What that leads to is tacklers then throwing the player to the...

    North Melbourne Priority Pick 2021

I think its been overstated, they won 7 games in 2019. If they had been at the bottom for 10 years sure let's talk picks, but Brisbane were bottom 3 from 15, 16, 17 and 18, got it right off field and things can change quickly without picks. Get a new coach, get things right off field and see...

    North Melbourne Priority Pick 2021

Exactly, it's not the talent, it's the coaching.

    North Melbourne Priority Pick 2021

Similar to GC, I don't think draft picks are their problems. GC have had issues with development and retention, that's where the support should have come, not high picks. It just gave them a glut so they trade them for very little (enter Will Brodie, Jeremy Sharpe deals). North have a heap of...

    North Melbourne Priority Pick 2021

Or they can suffer at the bottom for the decisions to trade/delist Ben Brown, Robbie Tarrant, Shaun Higgins, Jasper Pittard, et al the last couple of years. You shouldn't get extra picks just for knowingly making decisions that put you down the bottom. Just like the Crows did with Jenkins...

    Unpopular AFL Opinions

It's the same as the players salaries too. In any case, if all clubs can remove part of the coach's salary outside of the cap, even the less experienced coaches will do that too and then just employ another coach with that extra money?

    Unpopular AFL Opinions

Clubs have the same amount of money to spend, it's up to them how they spend it. Maybe if a club with an experienced coach wants to have more coaches, just pay their senior coach less or go for a less experienced coach. Good teams can have fewer players on their list as it's not a strict 38...

Top clubs should have a bigger soft cap than bottom clubs - thanks Damien! May as well make it the same for the TPP too. https://www.afl.com.au/news/775724/tigers-disadvantaged-dimma-takes-aim-at-soft-cap

    Rules The 'Dissent' rule

I've always been against arguing with umpires, hence why I think the challenge and appeal rules in tennis and cricket are incorrect. It might have something to do with the way players behave in tennis too. However, I think they are missing the opportunity for players and umpires to show mutual...

    Unpopular AFL Opinions

I think play is allowed to go on way too long before umpire intervention. Players are tackled 360 degrees and still allowed to dispose of it, and it's not HTB. What does the tackler do as a result, they try to sling them to the ground. Any tackle lasting more than 2 seconds needs to either be...

    NO TROLLS The umpiring crisis

You can solve a lot of b) by doing c). The interpretation the umpires are asked to follow is not aligned with how fans want the game to run, hence the frustration with the people enforcing it. Ruck nomination only slows the game down. Allowing mauls to continue for up to 30 seconds before...

News Holding the Ball rule change for 2022 Announced

This would also solve the inevitable case of the player who's free kick it is, not looking at the player with the ball, so they can't throw it back to them.

News Holding the Ball rule change for 2022 Announced

Whatever happened to the rule that if a player contributes to the high contact, they don't get a free kick? Dropping the knees, raising the arm to lift the tackle, leaning into a player are all contributing (I would argue causing) the high contact, so shouldn't be a free. Officials and umpires...

News Holding the Ball rule change for 2022 Announced

If a player doesn't have prior, there should be ball up if he doesn't immediately dispose of it (correctly) or it's not knocked out in the tackle, like was the case in the 90s and 2000s. The umpires let the play go too long now. The rolling mauls are worse than a ball up. Call the ball up, and...

Rules The AFL needs to bring in an anti-tampering rule

The average AFL footballer earns 4 times the average Australian's wage, so they don't need a career which lasts for decades...and that's just the playing wage, not including sponsorship, endorsements, and other business opportunities. Plus, there's no formal qualifications (tafe, uni, trade)...

Chris Scott on Doc Larkins - "unprofessional"

I think it is actually incumbent on people in the footy industry to treat Dr Larkins with a level of respect whereby when he says something they believe him.
