Good win, Dragons!! The first half was a game of two quarters really with us having a good first term to begin the game before the Phoenix fought back in the second to close the gap to within a goal at half time. Our third quarter though was very good as was our last term to see us end up with a solid win.
Some good games by a number of players, Bonz booted seven goals in a fantastic effort up forward, Hatchy1992 secured double Subway vouchers with five goals wile Strigoi played a very nice game in the ruck. Pie 4 Life contributed strongly as well along with DragoDelph and Bradesmaen through the midfield.
Nice to claim victory over a very good side in what was an important game. We've got a week off now before a massive preliminary final awaits next week.

One of the awards that is issued each season at Dragons FFC is the Coach's MVP. Each week Coach will cast votes based on who he thinks performs best on the qooty field. Raw statistics, positional dominance and big moments in the sim are taken into account, and Coach crunches the numbers with a complex algorithm to deal out 3-2-1 votes. Coach AceAndy still has the big job at the Dragons, despite an increasing reputation for sudden, strange onfield moves that either pay off brilliantly or end in total disaster, fast becoming known as Craaaaazy Andy, but after a premiership in season 32, understandably still has the keys to the machine that is the Dragons.
Coach's thoughts:
Reverse fixture or not, coming up against the Bombers is always an interesting affair. The Baghdadians would be keen to knock us off after what happened earlier in the season (for those living in a cave, a mercy rule almost had to be introduced, such were their butts absolutely spanked).
We, however, have been in great form, in terms of wins anyway. The margins lately have been very close! We would go in against the Bombers hoping to at least get the 4 points, but if a repeat off our first encounter was to happen, even better.

[Round 17], Conditions for this match - CLOUDY
Well, spoiler, it wasn't exactly a repeat of the first encounter, but a very interesting game happened nevertheless. It was mild, cloudy weather so conditions were good for plenty of stats-gathering, and as it turned out, we were in for a shootout.
We didn't quite get the opening quarter we would have liked. The Bombers were quick out of the block and at one point a bit before half way into the quarter even got out to 18 points in front. We hit back several times, even getting the margin back to 2 points late in the quarter before the Bombers pegged one back to have an 8 point advantage at Quarter Time. For us, the goal kickers were Bonz (x2), T2B_, Pie 4 Life and DragoDelph, so our midfield was certainly doing their job hitting the scoreboard and feeding our full forward.
The second term was actually more of the same. The sides pretty much traded blow for blow, although the Bombers would stretch out the lead at one point to 17 points, but as we've done so often this season we did peg it back to a straight goal just before Half Time. Bonz was once again involved kicking a goal this term, with Ljp86, Knifey Spoony, Strigoi all chipping in with their own, plus DragoDelph and T2B_ once again managed a major each from the midfield.
We knew the Bombers had come to play but the third term definitely had us staring down the jaws of defeat. Besides goals to T2B_ and Knifey Spoony (x2), it was all Baghdad. The Bombers piled on goals (and plenty of behinds) throughout the quarter with us barely getting a look in. Around the 20th minute mark of the term the Bombers even got out to a game high lead of 42 points (!). A late major each to T2B_ and Knifey Spoony brought the margin back to 30 points by Three Quarter Time, but it was still a massive task ahead of us.
If you need any more proof that this Dragons side is made of some incredible stuff (besides KFC and Subway), you need only look to the last quarter. The Bombers actually got the drop on us with the opening goal of the term in less than 30 seconds, but Hatchy1992 and paraaaa hit back in the next few minutes. The Bombers would again get the margin back out to 32 points at the 6 minute mark but from here we went Boss Mode. Goals to Braklet, DJ75, Bonz, Hatchy1992 and paraaaa all rained in quickly in the next 10 minutes and even serial_thrilla enjoyed a move forward and snagged a major. At this point, nearing time on, we had incredibly managed to hit the lead by 5 points! The Bombers did hit back with a goal, once again taking the lead, and Hatchy and serial managed a minor score each, putting us back in front by just a point. Not again surely!? Well, fittingly, mere moments before the final siren, Bonz rose up and kicked truly, putting us 7 points up and the game beyond any doubt.
A stunning win for the ages!

Defender highlights: Being a shootout for large portions of the game as well the big lead the Bombers managed, it perhaps wasn't a game for defender highlights... still, Matt_352 (19d, 7m) more than held his own both defensively and in terms of rebound. Stoods (16d, 5m) also held up well.
Midfield highlights: Despite the third quarter blitz by the Bombers, overall our midfielders were largely the reason we won the game. T2B_ (19d, 5t, 3g, 1b) accounted for his opponent and most importantly, kicked 3 crucial majors. Pie 4 Life (24d, 13t, 1g, 1b) was a machine in the middle, getting double digit tackles and plenty of the ball. DragoDelph (29d, 8m, 2g) also had massive numbers and hit the scoreboard. Although both our wingers' opponents also did some damage, Ljp86 (28d, 6m, 1g, 1b) and Bradesmaen (25d, 6m, 1g) still had plenty of impact for us.
Forward highlights: Although most of the goal kicking was done by our midfield, we had a few handy forwards this week taking advantage of our ample Inside 50s. Bonz (7d, 5g, 2b) was Bonz, who had handy mates with Knifey Spoony (5d, 2m, 3g, 1b) and Hatchy1992 (4d, 1m, 2g, 1b) at his feet.

Well, spoiler, it wasn't exactly a repeat of the first encounter, but a very interesting game happened nevertheless. It was mild, cloudy weather so conditions were good for plenty of stats-gathering, and as it turned out, we were in for a shootout.
We didn't quite get the opening quarter we would have liked. The Bombers were quick out of the block and at one point a bit before half way into the quarter even got out to 18 points in front. We hit back several times, even getting the margin back to 2 points late in the quarter before the Bombers pegged one back to have an 8 point advantage at Quarter Time. For us, the goal kickers were Bonz (x2), T2B_, Pie 4 Life and DragoDelph, so our midfield was certainly doing their job hitting the scoreboard and feeding our full forward.
The second term was actually more of the same. The sides pretty much traded blow for blow, although the Bombers would stretch out the lead at one point to 17 points, but as we've done so often this season we did peg it back to a straight goal just before Half Time. Bonz was once again involved kicking a goal this term, with Ljp86, Knifey Spoony, Strigoi all chipping in with their own, plus DragoDelph and T2B_ once again managed a major each from the midfield.
We knew the Bombers had come to play but the third term definitely had us staring down the jaws of defeat. Besides goals to T2B_ and Knifey Spoony (x2), it was all Baghdad. The Bombers piled on goals (and plenty of behinds) throughout the quarter with us barely getting a look in. Around the 20th minute mark of the term the Bombers even got out to a game high lead of 42 points (!). A late major each to T2B_ and Knifey Spoony brought the margin back to 30 points by Three Quarter Time, but it was still a massive task ahead of us.
If you need any more proof that this Dragons side is made of some incredible stuff (besides KFC and Subway), you need only look to the last quarter. The Bombers actually got the drop on us with the opening goal of the term in less than 30 seconds, but Hatchy1992 and paraaaa hit back in the next few minutes. The Bombers would again get the margin back out to 32 points at the 6 minute mark but from here we went Boss Mode. Goals to Braklet, DJ75, Bonz, Hatchy1992 and paraaaa all rained in quickly in the next 10 minutes and even serial_thrilla enjoyed a move forward and snagged a major. At this point, nearing time on, we had incredibly managed to hit the lead by 5 points! The Bombers did hit back with a goal, once again taking the lead, and Hatchy and serial managed a minor score each, putting us back in front by just a point. Not again surely!? Well, fittingly, mere moments before the final siren, Bonz rose up and kicked truly, putting us 7 points up and the game beyond any doubt.
A stunning win for the ages!

Defender highlights: Being a shootout for large portions of the game as well the big lead the Bombers managed, it perhaps wasn't a game for defender highlights... still, Matt_352 (19d, 7m) more than held his own both defensively and in terms of rebound. Stoods (16d, 5m) also held up well.
Midfield highlights: Despite the third quarter blitz by the Bombers, overall our midfielders were largely the reason we won the game. T2B_ (19d, 5t, 3g, 1b) accounted for his opponent and most importantly, kicked 3 crucial majors. Pie 4 Life (24d, 13t, 1g, 1b) was a machine in the middle, getting double digit tackles and plenty of the ball. DragoDelph (29d, 8m, 2g) also had massive numbers and hit the scoreboard. Although both our wingers' opponents also did some damage, Ljp86 (28d, 6m, 1g, 1b) and Bradesmaen (25d, 6m, 1g) still had plenty of impact for us.
Forward highlights: Although most of the goal kicking was done by our midfield, we had a few handy forwards this week taking advantage of our ample Inside 50s. Bonz (7d, 5g, 2b) was Bonz, who had handy mates with Knifey Spoony (5d, 2m, 3g, 1b) and Hatchy1992 (4d, 1m, 2g, 1b) at his feet.

One of the awards that is issued each season at Dragons FFC is the Coach's MVP. Each week Coach will cast votes based on who he thinks performs best on the qooty field. Raw statistics, positional dominance and big moments in the sim are taken into account, and Coach crunches the numbers with a complex algorithm to deal out 3-2-1 votes. Coach AceAndy still has the big job at the Dragons, despite an increasing reputation for sudden, strange onfield moves that either pay off brilliantly or end in total disaster, fast becoming known as Craaaaazy Andy, but after a premiership in season 32, understandably still has the keys to the machine that is the Dragons.
Coach's thoughts:
Coming off a brilliant comeback win vs the Bombers in Round 17, it was time for Finals action! On a winning streak, we had a lot of confidence despite some close ones, although by now it was fair to say that these closes ones certainly demonstrated our collective team steel.
With a Prelim awaiting us should we win, we would be sure to Fire Up against the Fire Chooks themselves, AKA the Phoenix.

[First Qualifying Final], Conditions for this match - WARM
The weather gods were kind to us for the game at least, a lovely warm day.
We had a strong start in the first term, goals to Strigoi, Hatchy1992 (2), Bonz (2) and Pie 4 Life had the scoreboard ticking over nicely while the Phoenix managed 2.3 for the quarter, giving us a healthy 21 point advantage at the first break.
The Fire Chooks would peg us back a bit in the second term, in particular jackenny got off the leash with 3 goals after coming off the bench and moving forward. Goals to Hatchy1992, Bonz and Ljp86 kept our score on the upward trend but the Phoenix pegged enough goals back to diminish the margin to just 4 points at Half Time.
The third term would prove to be a bit of a copycat of the first term, thankfully for us. DragoDelph snagged a major from the midfield while Hatchy1992 (2) and Bonz (2) proved to be too much up forward while we restricted the Phoenix to just 2.3, once again extending the lead out to 21 points at Three Quarter Time.
In the final term we would pleasingly have no heart stopper this time, putting the foot down just enough to keep the margin on the rise. Blaze Storm got the opening goal of the term, putting us well and truly on the front foot. While the Phoenix would manage a couple of goals and a few behinds (two of which were rushed) over the course of the term, getting the margin down to 18 points at one stage, goals to Strigoi (2), Pie 4 Life and Bonz (2) meant we pulled away and ran home for a healthy win by 38 points.
A very, very pleasing victory in a Final, showing just how strong a team the Dragons are this season (and my job surely is safe by this point, on a personal note). Onward and upward!

Defender highlights: serial_thrilla (14d, 3m) was rock solid defensively at Full Back and got involved in the play, likewise for HawkAussie (12d, 7m) on the Half Back Flank.
Midfield highlights: Pie 4 Life (23d, 6t, 2g, 1b) was a beast on the ball, having a pretty complete midfielder game. DragoDelph (26d, 4m, 2t, 2g) wasn't far behind and while Strigoi (24d, 15ho, 3g, 2b) had a tough battle with her opponent but still more than broke even by getting a healthy amount of ball to the mids and herself while hitting the scoreboard.
Forward highlights: We were treated to a couple of bags this week, with Bonz (7d, 7g) lighting it up and converting each of his 7 kicks to majors. Hatchy1992 (9d, 5g, 2b) was brilliant in the pocket and no doubt netted himself a couple of Subway vouchers (which he may of shared with Knifey Spoony. Or not).
