Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

DOB: 19 May 2001

I really hope he can cope with a tag. It'll happen soon and probably in a final
When it happens the rest of the mids should be doing everything they can to block for him and get him clear.

So, serious question. He's signed to the end of 2023. Should we be putting a 5 year contract in front of him? 6? What's the limit here? He's clearly a bonafide star who is only going to get bigger and better. And what value are we putting on him? Re-do the 2019 draft and he's running at top 5 if not top 3. Come next year, are we staring at a 5 year contract at 600k a year?
If I'm Chad or his manager I'm not signing a new contract until next year. Still he seems invested in the Swans so not overly worried at this stage

Whatever he wants

This gives a bit more context to the buddy conversation.

yes indeed ... i'd very much like to think we keep franklin, but on the club's terms
one more year of franklin is not worth risking warner or any of our young rising stars long-term

from mongrel punt ... just another reason to marvel at warner's emergence

WARNER V BRAYSHAW
I like to take note of the particular matchups at stoppages, as I reckon it gives a great indication as to which players take the defensive aspects of their roles seriously. I have to admit – I viewed Chad Warner as a purely offensive player prior to this game.
Not in a selfish way, or as one of those see-ball/get-ball players, but as one that makes it a priority to win the footy first and pay attention to his man second.
But that was far from the case as he stood next to one of the more prolific and damaging ball-winners in the game this week, Andrew Brayshaw.
Rewatching parts of the game in order to drill into my cloudy head exactly what occurred, Warner worked diligently to both stifle the run of Brayshaw and collect his own footy. He got the balance perfect, as he went on to collect 13 first-half disposals to Brayshaw’s six, removing his link-up play and his leadership from the contest.
Brayshaw worked back into the game in the third quarter, but by this stage, Warner was on a mission and his 12 touches for the quarter breathed renewed life into the Swans’ game.

I'd be pretty much giving him whatever he wants. He is on an incredible curve atm. Media player boys like sam Walsh who run around gather ing 35 disposals in the back pocket get all the praise. Right now Warner is the most damaging mid in the game. And he's only getting better

Yep. Warner does not get cheap disposals like most other mids. Those 35 disposals are worth a lot more than most midfielders 35 disposals.

If his brother makes it then no way is Chad leaving.
If I were west coast, I'd give Chad a guarantee I'd bring his brother across as well and give Corey an extra 100k over 3 years (on top of what Sydney would offer). Chad would have to seriously consider if WC gave him 800 over 6 years or something similar.

Hopefully the draw of being part of a winning club is something that tips it in our favour, but WC would also be telling him that a team can get back into contention quickly. WC won't be a rabble for the next decade.

If i were Sydney id be telling both Chad and Corey that west coast could have had either of them in the first 40 picks :p

Chad will be well compensated vy Sydney if he continues this form next year

West Coast will need to hit the draft hard not trade their way out of trouble. They gave up their future for Tim Kelly. I don't think they'll do that again.
