he will suggest it, and he thinks this video is funny for some reason

because he's emotional in his analysis, and it's not worth considering
If some had their way, we’d go back to drafting 6ft 3 athletes over footballers.

The criticism of Richmond’s form slump at the moment is that their small/medium role players are no longer playing their roles.

Jack Mahony is arguably one the kids best adhering to the NM coaches instructions this year. North long term success will need selfless Jack Mahony types performing these roles.

Despite the long term benefit of delayed gratification, some people on social media will always prefer white bread with hundreds and thousands when offered the choice with that or multigrain sourdough.

Sounds more nutritious than Bread McKenzie....

The highlight package shows he is doing a lot of not rewarded work that helps the team. His ability at front and square is good

Something we’ve lacked for about 20 years

The deluge of highlights in that interview video more so compared to others I reckon suggests to me the club wants people to recognise that Jack does a lot of the really important small things in a game that matter, and crashing into the packs, getting in front of your man, being unselfish and 2nd/3rd efforts is what he brings to the table.

This ⬆️

"Use my pace"

Those highlights chock full of him running quick blokes down. Fair to say he and our coaches don't think he's slow.
People running at full pace against others that don’t

What you won’t see is him running at full pace catching others or burning others off also running at full pace

In those highlights it’s often him getting beaten to the ball then the opponent slows down to pick the ball up whilst he goes at full pace

So why have the coaches told him to use his pace?

And then he halves that contest, and stops it coming out. What's the problem?

Nothing I’m just saying don’t be fooled by that into thinking he’s quick

Because you know more than AFL senior coaches, sorry I forgot 🤩

Footy IQ more then makes up for any shortcomings in leg speed.

THIS aged very, very well. Kudos to the poster ....

I've watched this bloke play a few times this year. We're getting a clever small forward who excels at reading the play and the ball, who can kick a goal and who has fantastic footy smarts. The comparisons to Jack Higgins are real and are fair.

Anyone that says he's just another Kayne Turner because he doesn't have elite pace are wrong. Mahony is a very smart player who far exceeds our other small forwards in this aspect; he's a great kick, a great decision maker and he was a captain at junior and school level. What's not to love?

Instead of drafting an athlete that needs to learn how to play football, we've drafted a footballer. He'll be playing by 2021 at the latest. Look for him to even potentially debut next year if injuries strike; he's already stronger and more ready for the AFL game than Curtis Taylor is. Couldn't be happier about this pick.

Welcome Jack. You'll be a fantastic Shinboner and will be one of our small forwards for our next Premiership tilt.

He's not Atley quick, but he's far from Cunners slow. His pace is literally a non issue, and he uses what he has pretty well IMO.
The fact he puts in repeat sprints and runs both ways is enough for me. Really like the kid.

You probably didn’t rate Glen McGrath because he wasn’t fast or didn’t swing it.
Look at what he can do - he’s 19 ffs.

I would rather have a player who gives heart and soul, trying his guts out, may not be the quickest or most talented.

Than

A player who is very talented but gives nothing to the table, is lazy and doesn’t try.

It's a nice change to see you actually acknowledge that everything he does isn't a negative.
To be fair tZ is very consistent in his criticism's of Mahony.

He is wrong about his speed tho, as you can see from those highlights. Mahony isn't slow at all.

Justice for small legs as a small leg sufferer myself, we take smaller strides and have to work 10x as hard but we are fast

SMALL LEGS LIVES MATTER

Good point, but that really isn’t the issue, he does have good traits other than effort, he’s quick enough, smart, great hands and good disposal. Certain posters occasionally get a hard on for hating players and look for any mistake to confirm their own opinions.

15 disposals and a goal each week for a small forward/flanker is pretty handy
