Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

Changing to Packers on account of Pouncey definitely being out, Rodgers MVP

He's officially listed as questionable. Though so is Aaron Smith, so that doesn't give me much hope.

Shefter is now reporting him listed as questionable, but really out.

I think Legursky will surprise some people. He's not next level like Pouncey, but he is very strong and will be able to hold his own against Raji. Hopefully with the 2 weeks of practice he won't miff any snaps next game.

I conceded about Pouncey after hearing the confirmation of a BROKEN ANKLE.. surely that's all you need to hear to stop any rumours of him playing. I distinctly recall back in the early 90's, Warren Moon (QB for the Oilers) returned after TWO weeks to play after breaking his arm. If the science of medical recovery has improved so much since then, then Whoa-weee..

From a first round Rookie like Pouncey to be replaced by third year Free Agent like Doug Legursky. But really.. the reality is that the Steelers are just gonna continue with the same winning philosophy no matter how many changes to the O-line. Would the likes of pocket QB's like Tom Brady & Peyton Manning be as effective?? Who knows? but at least we know Big Ben can 'adapt' to such a situation regardless.

VERSATILE O-LINE is ok by me.

Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

The Steelers had shaky o-lines in their past two SB wins. By that I mean shaky through the season, but stout enough at the right time of the year. I'm sure they'll be fine. I look at it in that it's only one game, and not having to rely on someone for a long stretch or even a whole season. And at least there has been decent practice time/reps etc. on hand since the Pouncey injury which would benefit everybody: Legursky, his o-line neighbours, Ben etc.

DALLAS -- The evolution of the "zone blitz" has led us to the now, a showcase meeting between two of the masterminds who have helped shape the highly effective and widely copied scheme all the way to the biggest game possible.

Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers and Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau, former roommates who worked together during the "Blitzburgh" era of the Steelers in the early and mid-1990s, will square off here on Sunday in Super Bowl XLV, or in their vernacular, Super Bowl 3-4.

"We're friends. We're definitely friends," LeBeau said about meeting Capers in the Super Bowl. "(We're) two defensive coaches, two Ohio boys, and we like to pressure the quarterback."

Great article on why these 2 D's are so similar.

Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

History and tradition run deep within the Steelers and Packers, and in the blue-collar communities both teams reflect.

By Vic Carucci NFL.com

DALLAS -- You just know that, somewhere on Super Bowl Sunday, the two of them will be together.

They'll be watching and smiling, satisfied that what they were a part of creating so many years ago -- the pride and tradition that bonds their teams and the communities they represent -- is still very much in place.

There is no doubt that, at least in spirit, Vince Lombardi and Art "The Chief" Rooney are celebrating their version of absolute perfection in that the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers will decide the championship of the NFL. Not only do Lombardi's Packers and Rooney's Steelers comprise the first Super Bowl matchup of teams more than 75 years old, they also have the most combined Super Bowl victories (nine) and Pro Football Hall of Fame members (39) who spent the majority of their careers with either team.

"Yeah," Rocky Bleier said, "I can picture them sitting there -- one (Rooney) having a cigar, the other one maybe having a beer -- saying, 'Hey, we didn't do too badly with these franchises and where they are today.' I could see that."

Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

anyone catch "The Road to the SuperBowl" on OneHD the other day? was pretty good.

went behind the scenes and could hear heaps from the players during the playoffs.

loved the bit where they show Rex Ryan when he throws his headset down yelling "mtherf&*&" lol

Go the Pack!
Can't wait for Monday morning - been a fan of Green Bay for a few years now. Really looking forward to seeing Rodgers finally arrive in the biggest game of them of all.

Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

Pouncey thinks he will play:

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Maurkice Pouncey still expects to play in the Super Bowl.

"Most definitely," the Pittsburgh Steelers' injured center said Tuesday. "I feel positive right now."

In an interview with ESPN, Pouncey put his chances of playing at "75 percent".

Is walking around off crutches. It is a little purple apparently, but he can still walk fine and there is no broken bone. Still, it is probably just a ploy and he is out. We'll see come the end of the week I guess. Or maybe all the way to the inactives on the day.

Thanx for the Update Greennick. :thumbsu:

So Post Gazette gOT IT WRONG!! about the 'confirming' a Broken Bone/fracture of the left ankle last week. Mike Tomlin never mentioned a broken bone, keeping tight lipped on the whole situation. Still don't mind if Legursky starts. Would be great if Pouncey is good to go. His technique is very sound. Just a matter of mind over matter and whether his ankle can tolerate the pain barrier and still remain productive.

Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

The more i think about this game as it draws closer the more i see the Steelers winning.

The Pack game depends HUGELY on Rodgers and with the tough schedule they have endured to get here it will catch up with them IMO. I can really see the Steeler D just completely overwhelming Rodgers and sitting him on his arse at least 6 times with some huge hits from Harrison , Woodley and Co.

And this is just on D!!! The Steeler running game will pound the Pack and keep Rodgers on the sideline and ineffective.

For the Pack to win they need Rodgers to throw for 250+ yards multiple TD's and rush for over 100 on the ground which i just dont see them doing against this D.

Hope it is close no matter what but i have my doubts. Get on the Steelers if you are a betting man and i cant believe they are the underdogs.

Bring it on and i cant wait for Monday. :D:D

Whether some of you care to know what Pre-game SB 'parties' costs are at...

The ICE storm has already kicked in and it's such a struggle for some. 80 accidents were reported in just one day. To me, the Supabah is a TV event. Although hanging out with some of the AE folk is just as accommodating to watch the game. :thumbsu:

Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

to be honest ...

if I'd already forked a few thousand to go to the Super Bowl, I'd stump up another $1,225 to go the Playboy party. totally worth it. :p

I'd find it too distracting if it was my Steelers playing.. I'd prefer if it was two other teams playing. Definitely return to Vegas one day. :thumbsu:

I agree, I really see this as a 50/50 game maybe with Steerlers being slightly favourites just because they have been there and done it. $2.30 is quite harsh for the Steelers.

Then again, the fairytale of Rodgers taking the Packers to a Superbowl ring just a couple of years after Favre left is kind of like another fairytale like the Saints last year, and the Superbowl is full of those stories.

Honestly, keep flip and flopping about this game.

Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

I know what you mean
I starting thinking the Packers would win (Pouncey injury)
then I thought the Steelers would win (I involved them in a multi that will be completed or end on the Superbowl, and I must have faith)
then I went Packers (Matthews + Woodson + Raji = BB's death)
then I went Steelers (OL has had time to prepare for the Packer D)
now I'm back to Packers

It's too hard
I'll be going Pittsburgh for my bet, but at this point of time, I'm leaning Packers

true 50/50 game
and I would truely recomend people putting $$$ on the Steelers at the odds they're at

Re: Super Bowl XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Green Bay Packers

I'm at the point where I reckon GB will win by 2+ TDs.

Justa feelin!

Yeah I don't know why all the love for the Steelers.. Think it will be close, a struggle which will suit Steelers but GB will kick away late through the air.

Prediction: GB 20 def Pitt 10. :thumbsu:
