That mark was special.. I watched the draft special replay on friday just so I could see it again, the goal was pretty handy- got past two players and then kicked it easy as you like from 50

I reckon he will play at least 16 games next year.. and will do mighty fine in them.

Go Roos

Better than Wells.

How good is he actually, i saw that mark in the Under 18s Carnival along with a nice goal he kicked on the run from 50! but will he be good enough to get a game this year, does he have the potential to be a top line player for us?

OK he may be special but I doubt that will happen.

My Predictions....

1)200 game payer
2)Will be VC
3)The next James Clement off the HBF....Sometimes coming up on a wing
4)Top 10 BF next year.....mark my words!
Top 10 in our B&F??? I'd say we would be in massive trouble next year if a 17-18 year old kid is amongst our best all year.

I think he will be lucky to play a game next year - just like Trotter this year. If he does get a crack, it will only be a handful of games.

I reckon JWS will play a few senior games in 2005, but he will be nowhere near our top 10 in the Syd Barker. His body looks like it's ready for AFL footy, unlike Trotter where they wanted to resculpt his build.

the common feeling was that his body wouldnt be ready for AFL next year. he is very skinny.

In some ways, he's also very durable. I get the feeling he'll always have a wiry sort of frame.

didn't stop the likes of fellow sandgropers : D.Laidley, D.Wells, K.Hunter, J & P. Krakouer. Also Gavin Wanganeen and McKay formerly of Carlton were very thin but tough as nails. The common feeling is that opposition supporters will feel threatened when JWS develops into a damaging player with a body to match.

Bit of Michael Tuck about him maybe?

I think there's a spot for the taking even for the opening round, on a HBF to add some run out of the backline. That's not to say he'll be ahead of Schwarze or Pratt for the same spot (or even Uday Baird) but it's not like there's a massive pre-determined queue (ie hypothetically pencilling Brad Moran in for a CHF role behind Petrie, Hale, Chad Jones etc).

I would slot him straight into the team for the Geelong game in the Wizzer cup, and see how he copes from there. He looks a pretty versatile sort, and I don't see why he wouldn't be able to play games in 2005. It's not a Trotter situation where his body is a long way away from AFL footy.

hoping he turns out to be a great long term player for north..

but i think you should all consider the massive level of difference in quality and physical presence between senior afl and junior level footy.
it would be a huge ask to expect him to make an immediate impact.

Wells didn't make too much of an impact in his first season but now he is one of our best 5 players. Hope Jesse can develop as fast as Wellsey did.

JWS is a little off being a star. I think a consistent year at PM would be good. However, his body has developed greatly since I saw him during the Carnival and if he manages to further enhance his body, he may be able to crack a couple of games.

Maybe we got ahead of ourselves with the the great DW
but he proved you can have an impact with a wiry frame!
Other examples R.Flower + K.Greig come to mind!
There is alot to like with JWS but i hope they give him time
much like Trotter last year-but 6/10 games would be a bonus!
2006-HF-JWS-TROTTER-URCH-cant see too many breaking the lines here!
I hope our back 3 will be as settled-another Arch-Dench
would be handy!!

I just hope he is as good as Dad. One of my all-time favourite Shinboners. Fearless, tireless and never took a backward step... unless it was into a pack to take a mark.

Gee, I don't know. A couple of those chase downs and tackles were in his first year. Had most here drooling from very early on.

Yeah, those tackles were beauties but i'm just saying that he has improved considerably well compared to 2003. Got us a win against Carlton, Freo, 25 touches against Essendon, 30+ touches against Hawks, etc. Come to think of it, it will be a pretty tough ask for JWS to develop that quickly even though he has the right body. He should play at least 4 games next year.
