OK, I've removed about three pages of posts.

Please do not use this thread to speculate about Oliver's private life – medical or otherwise.

Regardless of the veracity of your rumour, or what you know/have heard, if it's not public knowledge, just don't post it.

I don't want to turn this place into Demonland, but if you can't see the potential harm that this sort of rumour-spreading can cause (regardless of your intentions), then perhaps it's best if you take a bit of a break.

Thanks.

Cheering louder gets good forward entries and lots of goals. Headless has always said this.

You know the worst thing about this cheer louder rubbish is that nobody seems to understand that treating a fan base like subnormal children isnt going to make anyone join or suddenly upgrade their membership.
I actually downgraded mine after Thursday night.

I literally bought a GWS membership and sent the confirmation email to the Melbourne membership department told them to get stuffed

Impressed!

I must say I’m quite cheered by having bought into the charcoal and burnt umber. It feels like they might cheer up the season a bit. Also I prefer it when interstate teams win the flag because it’s less likely that I have to face work with a bunch of over-happy smug flogs

They're such a likeable team and organization. The song makes me wanna invade a small country, the footy makes me smile, the media guy makes me like shitty little memes, they made me like Hogan and Bedford,

Winning

I love the song. When I first heard the opening I thought they were all auditioning for bit parts in Fiddler on the roof

Also, Toby Greene.

I won’t hear a word against Oliver (due to longstanding habit mostly) but the guys in our team get so much of the ball and the media interpret this as a flag list, but the disposal is so often dreadful. Toby is the opposite. If he has the ball he makes something happen.

Whitfield, Kelly, Daniels etc
Then they have intercept defenders, key defenders, dangerous smalls, good key forwards, inside mids, outside mids

🤤

Kind of surprised me that footy media took until this weekend to notice the strength of this list and the threat it presents. They won’t now though.

Maybe it’s because I’m not Victorian but I always had the Barassi / Sheedy view that expanding to a national competition is a good thing, and it’s just daft for people to crap on endlessly about the size of the fan base or to refer to them as a franchise or whatever. Melbourne got screwed worse than anyone on the timing of GWS entering the competition but I’ve never cared much. For a start, back then we could have been given a gazillion first round picks and it still would have gone all swimming and **** on us

This is the exact opposite of the defence you've been making for Tom Sparrow btw.

I would say you can quite literally measure the different levels of expectation that are put on a given player since players are paid a higher or lower amount based on their expected output.

Age and experience are also major factors. Surely you understand this.
So your expectations are high on Sparrow because he was Pick #27?

Let's have a look at former pick 27's:
2006 Brad Howard
2007 Andy Otten
2008 Sam Wright
2009 Callum Bartlett
2010 Kieran Harper
2011 Sam Kerridge
2012 Jame Stewart
2013 Sean lemmens
2014 Lukas webb
2015 Darcy tucker
2016 Zac fisher
2017 Brent Daniels
2019 Jeremy Sharp
2020 O'driscoll
2021 Jesse motlop
2022 Cooper Vickory

10 out of the 16 never even made it as regular afl players. But you're not happy with Sparrow being a regular in a top 4 team?

I disagree.

Majority of neutral supporters last year could see where Kingsley was taking this list the moment they started to showcase their game plan.

Kingsley has created a game plan that suits their list demographic and that was the offensive wave they've got going now. Under Leon Cameron it was more a defensive set up within their game plan. Kingsley gets it as a coach..

They were absolutely robbed of a grand final opportunity by some disgusting umpiring and I truly believe had they made it through they would have beaten Brisbane.

I tipped them as a top 3 prospect at the end if last year and that hasn't changed one bit. They are scray good. They did this last night without one of their up and coming young stars in Finn Callaghan which makes it even more exciting.

I think we do agree. Neutral supporters could always see this unfolding. I’ve just heard less of this from the media who are more focussed on whether Nick Daicos can take the next step to be the greatest of all time, or whether Brisbane hold all the keys to the flag castle.

So yes, you and me thought they were very good, but I don’t think that was reflected much in the off season media

Yeah GWS have had a top 4 list for years. Their last coach was useless. They should be 2 flags deep already with the quality they've had. They'll win a couple with this list now they have the right coach. There 20 fans will be excited

So you agree that our expectations and judgements of players should take in more than simply their performance on the field. That things like pay, experience, age or draft position should be factors in how we rate them and what we expect from them.

Glad we're on the same page.

Tim Lamb shouldn't have thrown away pick 27, look at all those stars. Ive never seen someone contradict their previous arguments as well as you Dan.

Not when giving votes no. I think votes should be given solely to the production on field. So if that's Oliver/Petracca/Gawn/May getting the votes every week then so be it.

I've just shown you 16 years of data, and shown you that regardless of age, most pick 27's don't make it as AFL players. So ultimately most players taken at pick 27 don't get the experience because they're not good enough to play, so therefore won't get paid anything so the fact that Sparrow is playing regular footy is already well ahead of what anyone should've expected when we called out his name at the draft.

Why are we still talking about Tom Sparrow?

BigFooty awards are serious business. My point wasn't even about Tom Sparrow, I don't know why you are trying to start a fight with me on that.

without stirring the pot, but this is why many of us wanted to take pick 27 and 35 in the draft, so we could blood some kids. Nonetheless, I agree and I'd be down for playing Tholstrup all season. I don't mind losing round 1 but I don't rate Sydney.

You want us to keep pick 27 but say they never make it.

I didn't say never. show me when I said never. I'll wait for your reply.
Think I can clarify. You're saying that we shouldn't "throw away" a Pick 27 (which was an upgrade) because there's a one in sixteen or so chance that we could pick up a player as good as Tom Sparrow?
