Spent some time up in Qld the past few years and kept an eye on the suns. I see Cox as a similar type to Mac Andrew. I feel he can be used in a similar way to Andrew as a third tall defender who can intercept on smaller opponents and use his skills to help rebound quickly out of defence. I really don't see any other position for him so if it doesn't work I think that could be it for him

Which other clubs have 4+ x 196cm in their backline of which 3 are 200cm ?

Talls keep getting taller, Brisbane roll out 2 blokes over 200cm up forward every week and often have a resting ruckman to deal with as well.

Just because no one has done it yet doesn't mean it won't work or that it's not going to be more common, especially if they're mobile. Look at Blicavs for example, he's KPP height but can play pretty much any position and on most player sizes due to his athleticism.

Reid and McKay aren't super mobile, but Cox and Ridley are extremely mobile for guys of their height.

Tom Stewart is 'only' 190cm but completely dominates the air.

Height isn't the only relevant metric.

Not necessarily. The opposition forward line could spread very well and have exquisite ball use.

Which is what I meant by running it in. Either by legs or low hit ups inside.

There ain't no way those 4 are getting beaten in the air. They are going to intercept everything.

And the athleticism and speed of 3 of the talls plus McGrath and Hind will be proficient under the eye line too.

Agreed. He looked lost and disinterested. That said, he needs to play where we need him to play. Currently that's not on a wing. It could be as a forward. High roaming half-forward for me if he does, but even then I still don't see where he fits in.

I agree he looked a little lost on the wing, but as a half-forward who is now getting bigger, so hopefully more confident with body contact, is a different kettle of fish.

Yeh no doubt

Just that its extremely unlikely to work

Personally my view is it is crunch time for Nick. We know he can play a bit and has some real x factor for someone his size but he has to work out how much of a competitor he is. I have heard those who watch a lot of training describe him previously as a casual trainer who has not looked like he is getting the best out of himself and as most know I have questioned a few of his games last year (VFL/AFL) where he seemed to be taking the soft option. I liked what I saw on the weekend and I know he will never be a physical animal but he has to show some consistent effort and simply compete .

Is it though? Do you recall the opportunities he had at HF during the second half of last season? He looked so much more confident as soon as he was switched to half-back. I hope you're right and it's just a size/confidence issue but I didn't find him convincing.

More than any other on our list he interests me. I don't know why. The tease of talent maybe?

Honestly the club has played it up since Day 1. As soon as he was drafted. Dodoro could barely speak he was so engorged, and may as well have described him as Gary Ablett in a 200cm frame.

The club has played up the unicorn thing since, as well.

There’ll always be some hype around a top 10 pick, but it’s like they never actually paused for a second and said hang on, let’s take a breath, we don’t actually know what this guy can do yet.

You have to be very wary of any player who is described as being able to “play anywhere”, as history shows us that’s not the case with any player.
