Callum Mills

Callum Mills is one of the best young players in the AFL. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy graduate won the 2016 AFL Rising Star award and was selected in the AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 team in three of his four eligible years. Mills is a small defender with uncompromising courage who’s also capable of shifting through the midfield. The New South Welshman was elevated to Sydney’s leadership group during the 2018 pre-season at the age of just 21, and he’s now a member of a five-man leadership panel alongside co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Lance Franklin.

If you are in poor form do you get to dictate where you play? I wouldn't think so.
Find some form Millsy.
He trained with the mids all preseason. So has not had much preparation for defence. This is the reason for his problems this year in defence. Not only that the defence is a mess this year. Mills has found himself playing on too many hey position players this year.

Played all bar one game in 2016 and 19 games in 2015.

yeah but just telling you what he said,

mills thread though

but i guess not letting player have the opportunity they seek/are promised can lose you players

I think you’ll find Mitchell himself was referring to his game time. Playing time decreased at the back end of 2016 and increased significantly when he moved to Hawthorn.

Edit: impressive stats too but this is the Callum Mills thread!

Mills has been found out this year.
In a working system he excelled. Now that the system has broken down he looks lost.
He did miss lots of footy last year and the game has changed a little which would contribute to his woes.
None of that explains how his skills and awareness appear to have gone backwards.
He needs to get some confidence in his game.
Now that we're officially rebuilding we need to go back to first principles.
The first rule of Bloods Club was that you had to earn your place in the seniors.
Mills needs to earn his place in the midfield in the seniors by tearing up the NEAFL as a midfielder.
I would prefer to see Dawson and Rowbottom get a fulltime midfield gig before Mills because they've earned a seniors midfield spot.

What does he bring to the table?

What about his game makes people think he would be a good mid?

defended him heaps in here with yourself

but feel i was wrong and you were right

Well, he won the coaches assign best rookie...so a lot of people saw something in him. He wouldn’t be the first to plateau. I think the year off really hurt him in is development and he needs an extended run a NEAFL likely to reset. Th problem is there is not a lot of cover and he does at least provide a contest just about every time. So who comes in for him?

Looks to be the case that he’ll turn out as one of those rising star winners that never live up fully to the promise.

Don’t think he’s a better player now than he was in his first year.

Where would Mills go in a 2015 hindsight draft?

Was taken pick 3.

Harry McKay
Wayne Milera
Charlie Curnow

Josh Dunkley
Marcus Adams
Bailey Williams
Jordan Dawson

taking potential out of the equation and based purely on what they've achieved in 3 and a half years I think he sits about 3 to 5

The only players on that list I'd potentially swap for him right now would be Oliver Dunkley Fiorini and Hopper

I would probably have Weitering, Oliver, Hopper, Curnow and Dunkley over Mills when factoring in potential.

Just on output you could probably argue for Gresham and maybe Milera too.
