I've heard him labelled as not particularly quick...but in one passage of play he took the ball from defence 1-2'd with Jaensch before hitting Walker near the goalsquare lace out. He more or less moved at light speed. If he keep up this improvement he can become a seriously damaging winger.

Better games. But he still works within the range of never outstanding, but never terrible.

Has he ever had a Brownlow vote?

Definitely his best game in a long time today. So often the ball was near him but not necessarily in a spot that advantaged him, and he would just hit it out of the air to his own advantage and burn off his opponent - and used it nicely too!

That's the Mackay I remember from a couple of years back, the one I want to see more of! If he can do that every week we'll be a lot stronger for it.

ChannelCrow did a post-game interview with him and he mentioned that his role this year is a lot different and he's still coming to grips with it. He said he's been a lot more confident in his role in the team in recent weeks which would explain his better form. Personally I think he's been given a more defensive role but you got to love him streaming forward delivering lace out to leading players.

I'll have to check this out, I thought he was mute, never heard him speak.

What you say sounds about right. In fact him going down back is was I suggested in the OP. Yesterday he was caught on the last line of defence once or twice and he actually holds his ground well one on one.

Currently ranked 2nd at the club for tackles and pressure acts, his role has obviously changed and should be judged on this basis

Whenever he's on radio he speaks extremely well, better than anyone else at the crows I recon.

I am sure that others think the same, but maybe not.

What exactly is the point of interviewing football players? Most are not very bright, and if they are, they are forced come out with cliche after cliche and the sports 'journalists' ask the most inane questions...

Obviously an industry revolves this predictable dribble, just don't quite understand why so many people take an interest in it. A footy player should do their 'talking' on the field -

Yeah I hate listening to player interviews. Avoid them like the plague. Dont think it's a problem that they are dumb it's just they are programmed to be modest and sound overly team orientated. Combine that with nerves and you get the most boring interviews imaginable.

BTW think Mackay is getting better by the week. Was sceptical at the start of the year even though I have been a big fan, but I think he is now laying some strong tackles and finding the ball in space more. Just wish porps would show some improvement now.

Like several blokes he's getting better with a few games.

We could get scary good if some of the others tune up soon as well...

(Porps...)

Sorry to bump again, but I thought he was really good today until his injury. Kicked two vital goals and provided decent link up play. One of my favourites of the past few weeks, and would create a Toast thread, if I didn't think I'd jinx him by doing so :p

Any word on his injury?

I never thought he'd be anything but a light, outside winger - a good one, but nothing more.

Somehow, Sando has turned him into a more rounded, more complete player; great to see.

Hope his injury is minor, as he really started to find his feet in his new role.

In his presser Sando said that Dmac copped a corked back. Won't be in doubt for this week.

Mackay will be critical to our future success. His ability to break lines and deliver the ball is essential to complement the work of Thommo, VB, Danger and Sloaney.

Even though his possessions have been down this year he has been tackling better and he can hit a target

I've always enjoyed seeing Stabbies Walker thread and noting how high Mackay is on the goal assists tally given he's played much less footy with Tex than others on the list.

His 43 tackles put him in 2nd place behind VB (53) for overall tackles this season. No longer a soft outside player but a genuine well-rounded mid:thumbsu:

Great news on injury. He's just starting to hit his straps and look 09 ish. Sublime run, carry and pass to vince in q1. Showed immense courage today too.

It'd be easy to miss it given Dangerfield's last month, among some other highlights, but Mackay's last month have been definitely his best footy since 2009, and arguably better than any patch in that season as well.

He's starting to look confident to take the game on again. He's such a huge asset when he's going for us, and he's turning into a reliable goalkicker as well :thumbsu:
