Join the Steelers Army. Not one of the big clubs but they are the most successful NFL team.

They have a lot of towels too.

Steelers not big? Please... they're in the top 10 in terms of fan base size for sure.

Can we get this thread back on topic please guys?

Gavin will kick a ball in some yank sport next year.

*Maybe.

I personally have my doubts, and reckon it'll fall through.

I have been wanting to select an NFL side to follow, given the content of this it seems like a decent place to ask for suggestions.

Who and why?

Of the teams mentioned in this thread only one got a win on the weekend (harsh on Redskins as they had a bye and admittedly we only knocked of the Jets).

If I were to suggest a team I'd go with a team that has a young quarterback (or about to draft a young quarterback) so you can have the career journey with them. Also would advise against jumping on a team that has recently won a Superbowl otherwise bandwagon calls will come thick, fast and possibly justified.

So that would mean teams like; Washington, Indianapolis, Seattle, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Miami, Minnesota etc. so there is plenty to choose from. Another consideration if you wish to watch your team live is go for someone on the West Coast so wake up times aren't so horrendous.

Ultimately, just watch some games and you'll gravitate towards some teams over others, alternatively head on over to the NFL board where there is a whole discussion over how to choose a team and similarly a AFL-alike team thread so you can get the most North-y NFL team (thought comparisons are very loose in my opinion).

Following the jets is alot of fun, very similar to the last few years following north.

I thoroughly endorse it :thumbsu:

Not one of the big teams like Cowboys, Giants and Redskins.

This is actually a really good way to pick a team. I like the idea of hoping on board with a RGIII or Andrew Luck and ride their career hopefully to a Superbowl. I was a Giants in the last couple of years that Phil Simms was playing and we had a few promising QB's but watching Eli Manning from game 1 made it more gratifying when he won SB MVP.

Personally I'd steer clear of Browns or Minnesota. Just seem to be organisations that don't win. Now that I've said that 1 will step.

I'd also steer clear of Jacksonville. Not enough history for mine. If you fall for your team you'll go back to the history book and learn your YA Tittle's and Terry Bradshaws. Jacksonville don't have any 'immaculate reception' type stories. Or Ice Bowl.

Maybe because it's 2012 but I'd look into Washington or Indianapolis.

Redskins have 3 superbowls too. It's not like we're holding a barren trophy case like the Eagles :)

But no, Skins are 'big' in terms of fanbase/monetary value. Something like a top 5 sports club in the entire world.

It's definitely an interesting juxtaposition barracking for North and barracking for the Redskins :)

What odds would you have gotten on this board during 2008 (or even 2009) that he would be delisted by the end of 2012 and effectively had a fork in him by 2011?

In so many ways he is what we lack.

Quick, on paper an elite kick (and in practice sometimes) and is ideal size and athletically to match up on these small forward types we have so much trouble with.

He held Rioli to 7 possessions in a game in 2008 from memory.

I cant recall a player promising so much and then just falling in an absolute heap. Did Scott utilise him different to Laidley? as it seems Brad's arrival coincided with Gavin's fast decline.

Or is it just one of those things?

Just a mentally weak footballer with no hunger to elevate his game. His form dipped when he had the 2nd year blues in 09 but we signed him up to a 3 year contract in the fear the Gold Coast came looking.
What a complete waste of resources.
Got put on to the rookie list in 2012 as a may day call by Scott but he was finished by 2010. To be paid 350,000k a year to play VFL football for 3 years aint a bad way to set yourself up in life.
