It's not really the individual players fault, it's that none of them compliment each other. We need to put more outside class around Taranto and Hopper because the midfield balance right now is disgusting and they all look worse off for it.
i understand the practical point of your post but in modern day footy it isnt doable.
First at the ball needs to know how to use it, that is the requirement of the modern day footballer.

Cant give them a chop out when they really need to be much much better at creating play.
We really got dudded with that trade.

Taranto is a 2x b&f winner, one in a GF year beating out a lot of other good players. Hopper at his best made an AA squad of 40. Both are good players, probably not A grade but they are what they are. Problem is they are made to look second rate because we haven't got the right mix around them.

They could be playing better for sure but the coaches need to be doing a better job of working out a better balance because this current mix isn't helping anyone.

sorry, but he isnt much chop, looks good with the stats, turns up to contests so he gets a lot of attention, but his game is flawed in the modern day. would struggle to get a game with a coach who has a positive game plan.

in other words, players who use the ball well would be way ahead of him in any team bar the coupld of bottom teams.

I hate Taranto always have. He is an absolute garbage footballer. His skills are utterly putrid and if we could get anything for him take it
I praised him last for his work-rate, but I didn't see that today.
GWS didn't even play him as a midfielder towards the end of his time there.

They put him on Half-forward Flank.
You don't always have to have the best skills as inside midfielder but his are really bad and his speed is not good enough it gets shown up badly against quicker sides, and I am also starting to question his toughness around the ball.

Well none of Dow, Ross or Kmac are any good either so not much we can do

Kmac has his moments, dow about the same, ross about the same.....most of these guys will probably make way for the new guns we have coming in, the big positives for me were our foot skills late in the game. we started to string a few good passes together.

Well he is with us until the end of 2029. Better get used to him.
no his not. Another club may want to take him on and work out a deal. Reality him and hopper would not be a loss.

Which club would do that deal? These contracts are Dimma’s legacy to us. There is no way these guys will be best 22 in 2027 let alone beyond that.
our midfield rebuild started last draft, we need another couple of drafts where we bring in gut running midfielders.
If Smillie, Lalor, Hotton, and 2-3 draftees are playing in our midfield by 2027 we can transform it pretty quickly.
We’ve certainly got to work towards a more dynamic midfield , leg speed and 2-way runners is the way the game is moving.
There’s a blandness to our midfield atm, Hopper/Taranto/Ross are one-paced and ideally it’s not a great midfield mix, but it’s where our lists at right now. And I think yesterday was a poor performance collectively, our midfield did not show up.
