We did take Ben Griffiths with pick 19, and some guy called Nathan Fyfe was picked up by Freo with the next pick.

To be fair I saw Nathan Fyfe's' first few games in person and he looked like a kid with ricketts. About the skinniest kid you'd ever see drafted. He made Jagga Smith look like Hulk Hogan. But jeez he floated through the air taking marks like Royce Hart.

is it just my memory or did we used to give kids way shorter time to develop than we do these days? feels like every kid gets like 5 years to establish themselves now but back in the day it was once your initial draft contract expires in 2 years youre gone unless youre best 22.

I reckon it's a result of teams lack of success or success respectively.

We were rubbish for a long time so new recruits were played earlier and exposed earlier but if the firsts are full of established great players and premiership players, the youngsters spend more time developing before they debut.

I remember the years when hawks were dominant, if they did debut a youngster they often came in and immediately looked at home in the seniors and contributed.

I reckon some of our young guys will show for us the benefit of biding their time for a year or so longer....
