i dont think he gives opponents enough credit. plays too loose then has to work back to find his man. I get that its a team defence but sometimes you have to start closer to your man.
Didnt rate his game yesterday but wasnt our worst

Thought he was stiff to cop that 50, even watching on TV it wasn't immediately clear who the ball should have gone back to and he immediately tossed it to the closest Suns player.

Otherwise, as usual, tried his absolute heart out. We kept giving Suns players free air about 70-80m from goal to make that last kick i50 which is an absolute nightmare for defenders.

And if he hesitated and asked who he was supposed to give the ball to, then it'd be 50 anyway.

The umpire shouldn't have given the 50, and should've told the suns player who Laverde handed the ball to that he shouldn't have been standing there because it creates confusion.

You can apply that to everyone in our back half. It is not how we set up. McKay / McGrath / Redman all zone off as well.
Apart from a few dropped marks I did not think he was too bad. The lot of them did an okay job given we turned over some easy footy at times .

Absolutely you can. and yes if we give up less easy footy up the ground it works better for our defense and we arent caught out of position.

Do not disagree but it seems to be the modern way of defending. Most sides doing it.

And that my friends is why Hayes can’t get in the side .
One thing that doesn’t show up on TV is how much work he does setting the back 6 and how vocal he is behind play.
On ground leader of the defence.

Didn’t think his first half was that bad, got beaten a bit but wasn’t a total disaster. Second half very good.
Got in the wrong position a lot in the first half and was one of our worst IMO. His second half more than made up for it but I'd have him outside our top 5/6

in part to poorer delivery i50 in the second half. in the first & start of the second everyone was getting caught out of position

This guy is our meat and potatoes warrior. Great game Lav, more of that please.

Looking back on it, Laverde has had pretty much the quintessential Essington career.

10 years on a playing list, a dozen or so quality games. Only lasted so long as because he's Dodo's vanity project. Most clubs would've delisted him a long time ago.

The sad realisation is, he's our Shaun Atley.

If Zach Reid didn't have the body of a 55-year-old Italian concreter Laverde wouldn't even be playing seniors.

its a shit show no matter where you look.
