John Coleman gets suspended for 4 games in 1951 ruling him out of the finals. EFC make the GF with Geelong getting to a 39 point lead in the last qrt. Essendon rallied to come within 9 points with 2 goals from Dick Reynolds who came out of retirement from the bench.
Its safe to say EFC probably would have had a 3 peat Premiership run had Coleman played that day.

The great last qrt comeback in the 1984 GF vs HFC. Down 4 goals at 3 qrt time, Essendon kick 9 goals 6 points and bury Hawthorn to win first flag since 1965..a long long wait for Bomber fans.

Wouldn't mind owning the book if the price was reasonable, but the fancy wrap appears to have trebled the price.

Can I just say, I've absolutely loved this thread. My son and I have spent a fair bit of time going through AFL history of all clubs (he really is obsessed by this sort of stuff, even going through the history of the short lived University!) and seeing all of these old photos have been a fantastic experience for him. It'd be great to see more threads like this for all of the AFL clubs.

What's also been great is seeing most people just ignoring the disappointing posters out there that just want to try and troll and derail what is really a great thread, or opposition supporters calling out these truly pathetic individuals. Their attempts have really just fallen on deaf ears and very quickly petered out. This is what the main board should be like more often. Great work BigFooty!

Can I just say, I've absolutely loved this thread. My son and I have spent a fair bit of time going through AFL history of all clubs (he really is obsessed by this sort of stuff, even going through the history of the short lived University!) and seeing all of these old photos have been a fantastic experience for him. It'd be great to see more threads like this for all of the AFL clubs.

What's also been great is seeing most people just ignoring the disappointing posters out there that just want to try and troll and derail what is really a great thread, or opposition supporters calling out these truly pathetic individuals. Their attempts have really just fallen on deaf ears and very quickly petered out. This is what the main board should be like more often. Great work BigFooty!

Warms my heart knowing young Bomber kids are looking at the pics and reading comments. It’s my main objective really along with older peeps who are just interested in footy history.

I know it's not the same as some of the deep dive club history books already posted, but I have this book which my son and I love to go through:



Funny story, I won an academic prize during my Year 12 many, many moons ago (yep... I'm a nerd) and the school asked prize winners to go source a book that they'd pay for and we would be given at a ceremony. Everyone else chose dictionaries or reference books for their particular subject areas... I chose this. The Education Minister was presenting the prizes and actually said "good choice" when he handed it to me.

I remember when my team used to have to rely on its history to garner a sense of pride. Sort of.

But at least Richmond went a limited time between winning finals. How longs it been now?

You've done some epic work in this thread. We've seen only a handful of those photos before, the rest are all ones we've never seen before!

Rhett's up to his third edition already and I've felt compelled to buy each time.

This is probably the definitive club history but only goes up to the early 1990's.
