Like the look of this kid - Iike his pace and overlap run as shown in the highlights, but apparently his kicking can be a bit inconsistent. Let’s hope he can sort that out and not be another Aaron Hall.

Since drafted he hasn’t stopped smiling it seems! He’s been pictured on the plane to Melbourne with a massive grin still remaining. It’s so great bringing kids into the club who are wrapt to pull on the jumper first and foremost!
that is why we should not worry about recruiting interstate players. Just pick the best then back our coaches ECT to retain them. PS no comments on JHF ha ha.

If we are relying on electro convulsive therapy to keep our players here I dare say we will eventually be in some fairly significant trouble from the AFL

I think he will play quite a bit of footy next year.

Athletically he’s up to it and he’s in a role we lack many options at all, genuine leg speed and dash off half back.

Add his intercepting ability…

Goater is the only other with similar wheels.
Goater has the wheels but not the endurance.
Opens the spot up for Hardiman a bit.

Riley Hardeman – No.17

The fifth of North Melbourne’s first-round selections in the 2023 national draft, the West Australian is among the fortunate few to step straight into their preferred numbers.

The No.17 was most famously worn by Allen Aylett, a champion onballer who represented the Roos in 220 games from 1952-64 and won three consecutive best-and-fairests before his revolutionary stints as North Melbourne president and later the VFL president.

Dual premiership coach Denis Pagan wore it in the majority of his 120 games as a player from 1967 to 1974, as did forward Graham Melrose, who unfortunately missed both the 1975 and 1977 Grand Final triumphs with injuries.

Utility Glenn Freeborn was the last to taste success in No.17, with his three goals in the second term of the 1996 Grand Final having charted the Roos’ course to victory.

It was last worn by Lachie Young, who played in 35 games over 2021-22 before he fell out of favour in 2023.

Recent history hasn’t been kind to half backs who wear #17. Hopefully Riley can break the trend.

"You're wearing number 17, made famous by Allan Aylett".

No mention of the bloke who won us the only ever gold cup?

Yeah bit of a brain fart by Brady …..but a good reason to bring this out …

looking at Hardeman in the training photos today, he has that look of absolute determination…those eyes …the kind that silently say ..that balls mine ….l like him…..genuinely excited to see his progression.
