SA pulled there best players from a test series to play T20
Nice try though.
It's dead. It loses money in every country except the big 3.
And yet they've made the WTC final at Lords that most of the country will be tuning in to...It's still popular in SA & NZ (albeit with smaller grounds)

NZ have won the WTC recently too, Windies beat us at the Gabba recently. 5 day tests are the healthiest they have been for years.

Yeah an of course it would be absolutely impossible to have good 4 days tests
It's a lame argument
If we go to 4 day tests and keep to 450 overs thatā€™s 112 overs a day. The way most sides go with over rates itā€™ll never finish.

And the bowlers will be rooted.

If it happens itā€™ll end up going the way of stubbies, used to be 375 ml, now a lot are 330ml. Youā€™ll end up getting short changed.

You wouldn't do 112 but you could do four days of 100 overs. That's only 50 over less over the course of the Test.

depends if they wanna get funky - you'd think he plays

but there was also talk of head, konstas and usman at 3
I'd like that top 3, if Konstas is looking good in the conditions, but you'd still have Marnus at 4 or 5. He's made a couple of centuries in SL and young enough that he'll still be there for the India tour.

We arenā€™t not playing Marnus heā€™s one of the few that can play the long game in these conditions

yeah 5 day tests are the go.

if they finish in 4 days, then so be it - the players just get a break, like they've been crying out for and should be fresher for the next game. and if the next game happens to be a 20/20 or odi - no need for them to be rested surely.

i'm an advocate for 4 day tests if all under a roof - that's not practical though.

if rain intervenes and we are going to bowl 100 overs a day - they'd never be able to make up for lost time.

and that's where it gets tricky as boland and webster were our best 2, in the last test match.

I'm old enough to remember when the test team went straight into ODIs. I think we'll diverge that way in tests too, with a team for SENA and one for Asia - with some multi continent players and some specialising. Someone like Kuhneman may end up having a good test career for Australia without ever making a test squad in Australia.

Langer out, Bevan in

Otherwise unchanged!

I think in terms of selling test cricket to those who don't watch it, that's the worst way to go. It being a 7 and a half day is one of the big issues in terms of attracting fans - turning it into a 9 hour day isn't the way to go - you'd be better off keeping it 5 days and dropping down the overs - rather than increasing the hours.
