AFL Trade Radio

Stephenson: I got a call from my manager about a week before the trade period saying he thinks they're going to put me up for trade. I was shocked to start with and didn't know what to think

Stephenson: I didn't hear anything from the club for about a week or so, so I thought I'd get on the front foot and call Bucks and said 'hey mate is this true' and he pretty much just said to look for a trade and they'll facilitate it

Damo: Are you hurt by it? Stephenson: Yeah I am a bit. I was obviously very happy playing at Collingwood. I enjoyed being there, so to be told in a way that you're not wanted, it does hurt.

Stephenson: I've had an outpouring of support from my teammates. I love them dearly and I've had quite a few messages from them wishing me all the best for the future

Stephenson: I'm filled with excitement now. The exciting young group that the Roos have, they're a great young side and I think I can fit in there perfectly

"Who influenced you to come to north"
JS: Brady Rawling, Gav Brown, Luke McDonald, John Blakey, They made me feel so welcome and wanted. The club will be successful and WE will be in the near future.

"Going to North Melbourne, playing with a great group of guys and the 5 yr contract is security, North definitely pushed my hand with the security of the contract"

He has to improve off this year but thanks.

I'm guessing both clubs are happy with the deal.
2020 was a right off in terms of football due to covid etc lets hope 2021 will be better.
Gutted we lost stevo and dismayed at the club I follow.

Sorry to be clear I meant happy in the sense of relieving cap pressure as required not him leaving.

Hopefully your opinion of him holds true as we (North) need run/pace.

'He said he doesn't know if I've allowed myself to open up'
By Daniel Cherny

Jaidyn Stephenson has spoken to SEN radio in the wake of his trade to North Melbourne.

He said he had called Pies coach Nathan Buckley after his manager had told him he might be up for trade, but was not given "clear reasoning".

"It was probably a week or a couple of days before the trade period started. My manager came to me and said 'look, you might be up for trade, mate'. It was sort of a bit of a shock to start with, but as the time's gone on I've sort of come to terms with it and now I feel like I've made the right decision," Stephenson said.

"I said the whole time I wanted to stay ... but it's not always to be.

"My manager sort of came to me, and then I heard nothing from the club. I gave 'Bucks' a call myself to see what was going on and he just pretty much said 'mate, look for a trade as aggressively as you want and we'll try facilitate it'. There wasn't a very clear reasoning or anything but like I said I think it's all worked out for the best.

"He said he doesn't know if I've allowed myself to open up to the group, which I don't necessarily agree with, but if that's how he saw it, he's the coach and that's his [prerogative]."

This is just bullshit things that people say when they shaft people.

It's so ****ing empty that it echoes.

He was one of my top picks of his draft - but I knew we were no chance as he wasn't worth our top 5 pick at the time.

To get him for absolute peanuts now has me ecstatic. He is 21, has won the rising star, skillful, quick and kicks goals for fun.
His one down season is one impacted by Hub life during a pandemic.

He is going to be an absolute gun as he continues to mature and he will be grateful to us for giving him this opportunity as well.
