Either assistants all walked or were pushed - both not great, fresh ideas needed but this is an exodus or clean out.

Something makes me feel Scotty is being told he has to accept entering his last year without an extension

I hope scotty can be supported to be the Geelong person he claims to be and pass the Batton -

Radio silence could be Yze or Giansiracusa both assistants in granny- being selected as in coming coach with a transition year with Scotty-

At least I ******* hope so

We can’t extend Scotty over the summer- we can let him fight for his job in his last year and we can explore late next year but fu** me let’s have some bravery and put the club first

If Scott loves Geelong he will be willing to do either of the above and it’s his choice

I dont want to go full-Richmond (never go full Richmond as they say), but Hocking would not just be coming with his own ideas of what the club needs to do to do well. He would be coming with significant intel about other clubs programs and tactics.

It’s not like he’s an administrator who only sees the surface level of how a club operates in its match prep and execution. As an ex-player and with his previous role at Geelong, where he worked closely with the coaches and oversaw them- probably gives him significant capability in analysing other clubs and who has cutting edge advantages at this very time. Plus he would have been reviewing those clubs programs, and chatting with their coaches all the time.

The reports of Scott signing an extension came after Simon Lloyd gave a pre-match interview in early August where he spoke about both parties being happy to extend the relationship

One thing he did mention which raised my eyebrow more than the contract extension was the mention of it being a long term extension - so maybe back a couple of months ago those behind the scenes were anticipating that there may be some changes coming and that there were looking at stability in the form of the senior coach across this period

After he signed his last contract I said would wait until the last season of this deal before looking at where things stood, but there's a number of senior coaches out of contract at the end of next season and if the club doesn't want to lose Scott I can understand why they would want to extend the relationship sooner than later
I think everything pre-hocking needs to be put on hold now. Let’s not assume that what was going to happen, still is after steve reviews everything.

So pretty much all the line coaches gone. Must've been some blow up with Scott, and it makes a lot of spots to fill.

Guess we'll see next year if the style was really a Scott imperative or driven by those coaches. Be interesting to see who comes in, especially for what could be just a one-year appointment.

why would they blow up at him this year? Why not 2019? Or other poor finals year?

Scott will extend. Right move IMO

He’s the best coach out there (except Clarkson) and maybe just edges out Longmire.

For those sooking it up - please explain which coach we’d bring in to make us better in the next 2-3 years.

He just needs a few tweaks, and a few different thoughts around him. Hocking will oversee that, but Scott is going nowhere.

Sack the coach - Sack the coach. Nah, how about eyeball a few players and have some tough discussions.

Rohan
Menegola
Higgins
Dahlhaus
Henderson

I’d start there. All 5 are either on the trade table, or encouraged to retire and agree on contract payout.

The suggestion he’s the best coach is laughable. He hasn’t won a flag in 10 years, while a whole bunch of other coaches have. A few multiple flags too.

He’s probably about 4-6th.

But he’s taken this group as far as it will go. Can’t really see the point of continuing with him unless he is prepared to do a decent rebuild. None of this topping up garbage that hasn’t worked.

Yeah all good. We’re all entitled to different views.

But you didn’t answer the question about who coaches Geelong if not Scott. List an actual available coach or someone waiting in the wings.

None better than what we have.

At least there will be big changes, Bevo isn’t available but would also be above Scotty in current coaches. With regards to your question about who is better who is available in not sure I share that philosophy as all coaches Scott, clarko and Bevo included didn’t have huge profiles before landing senior gigs.

It’s not for the average fan to know who is available, I think after ten years we can reasonably say I hope they are fast researching the answer to that question and not dismissing it.

I'm pretty much with you on this.

Can't see who is out there that would change the team drastically from where it currently is - list profile can't change too much given lack of trade bait etc.

I'd throw in Dimma though in to your top tier coaches though.

I don’t really follow potential coaches. But i’d go an untried coach rather than a recycled one. Just like scott was. And bomber.

It’s for a clubs coaching selection panel to determine who they want.

All i know is a different coach has as much of a chance as scott does of winning a flag next year. Next to zero.

Who’s everyone hoping for in the replacement assistant coaches?

I wouldn’t mind Steven King.

An elder type statesman coach (ie Choco/Woosha - not saying these guys specifically) that could be good for development?

Hopefully Scott is eyeballed too, and involved in a tough discussion.

Don't tell us 'mission accomplished - we're steeled and galvanised to play our best footy' when we clearly aren't .....get to work and come up with a gameplan that wins finals. Period.

Why are Scott detractors so sure there's some exceptional coach waiting out there
What? Like Thompson and Scott's stellar record prior to coaching us?

Sometimes you gotta take a chance, or you'll end up doing the same thing over, and over again.

As John Kennedy said....Don't hope! DO!

Rohan is a coach killer for sure. CS has done nothing but back him. Time to make a hard decision about him.

King has been in development
And is currently WB midfield coach
Cheers

Feels like we kinda good use a good ruck coach especially as we have a couple of young rucks on the list

Maybe he can join as a development or midfield coach and then moonlight as a ruck coach also

You mean the players that Scott picks week in week out despite clearly not being up to it?

Where were you at half time in our last H & A game?
We were 44 points up on this year's likely premier; looking like finishing on top; we didn't, and the rest is history but clearly, not being up to it is false.
