Would anyone on here be happy if the cats offered the panther a deal he couldn't refuse to be an assistant coach.

just mentioned him before- would be highly sought after.
I think he said he wants time with wife and 4 kids
Depends on how hard you go, fresh out of game, Sean was so good, even against the cats, would just be gold with young players.

The suggestion he’s the best coach is laughable. He hasn’t won a flag in 10 years, while a whole bunch of other coaches have. A few multiple flags too.

He’s probably about 4-6th.

But he’s taken this group as far as it will go. Can’t really see the point of continuing with him unless he is prepared to do a decent rebuild. None of this topping up garbage that hasn’t worked.

It is not Chris Scott’s call whether to rebuild. The Cats are a business and it’s a brutal industry. The board sets strategy and direction and appoints a CEO to deliver. Under Brian Cook the board’s strategy was to top up and stay competitive and that is exactly what Scott did - he delivered with an ageing list but with no flag. Hocking’s appointment suggests the board has shifted gears to a mini-rebuild. The changes Hocking wants may have reenergised Chris Scott … my guess is he is signing a longer term deal to win a flag! This thread will go on forever and ever … and for what it’s worth I think Scott is a terrific coach.

Lappin staying:

But his commitment to Geelong is welcome news at GMHBA Stadium, with football manager Simon Lloyd saying Lappin was one of the best exponents of his craft across the AFL.

“Nigel Lappin will be at the club next year,” Lloyd said.

“We have had a commitment from Nigel that he will be at the club moving forward.

“Nige is highly qualified and one of the leading assistants in the game.”

Personally I think this is fantastic news....now some new blood (not ex-Geelong) to consolidate the changes...

Chappy asked CS some years ago on K Rock who his favourite #35 was. CS was very diplomatic. He said past players- Chappy, current players- Danger.
My comment was tongue in cheek.

I can think of another #35 that went alright...

Goggin? Bit before my time

Good work SC.....

Let me tell you, this bloke could play. An all time great Cat, overshadowed to a degree because of his uncanny understanding with the great Polly Farmer.

Their understanding was breathtaking at times.

Dang...I'm off topic...off to the naughty step

Did you watch the clip of the 63 GF 3rd quarter posted yesterday? Didn't bat an eyelid when the Hawthorn blokes just missed in their attempts to kill him a couple of times.

I did..I did...Billy was a bit quick for them.....

Hawks had a few mongrels in those days..Dirty Des Dickson and John Peck come to mind.

Coverdale was a brilliant natural footballer, but Kennedy turned him into a thug too.
I'm too young for these names to mean anything to me, but still I'm loving it! Keep it going please! Reckon that 63 cats side would have been a favourite if I'd been around to see it. And seriously, no lapse of time is long enough to take the joy away from reminiscing about beating the hawks in a GF, right?

Right! :D

The old days where on a Monday at work you had no stats to throw into the conversation for why a player was shit, you just had to say it was the vibe or the feeling.
No inside 50s, no rebound 50s, no tackle counts in the paper, just the basics of "Best on" and who kicked the goals.

Just a couple of snippets then....

1) Polly was a scrupulously fair player. In a game at KP, Dirty Des Dickson was all over him using his usual tactics...and Farmer waited for a boundary throw in and threw the biggest backhander right in the mush. I think Farmer was reported, but I don't recall. But the backhander happened right in front of me...RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME...I was about 8 years old...

2) Peck was a pig...behind the play, in the play...he head hunted whenever he could. One day, he "squirrelled" John Watts ( another very fair player ) I imagine when Peck woke up, he wondered where he was. Watts was a friend of my fathers and after footy had a successful media career I think, in WA...
