Pete would do so well in a team like Collingwood that zips the ball into their forward line with express pace and hits up their forwards space before the oppo can get back and set up. I mean if Cox can kick goals with that set up, you can only imagine how well Pete could do.

Unfortunately we have been the antithesis of that game style for the past couple of years. Our tall fwds are required to beat their defenders and hold strong marks in a crowded fwd line after a long, slow build up and often long bomb fwd 50 entry. 2MP lacks acceleration to get space on his defender, and clearly lacks the ability to mark with body contact. Unless we drastically improve our ball movement and fwd 50 entries I have big concerns about him ever being a consistent AFL footballer again.

Everyone knows you can play a quick defender on him so I doubt he will be good anywhere. The only reason he has survived this long is he converts so a 6 possession game with a crap load of dropped marks can still be a 3 goal game.

I agree for the most part but Mason Cox isn't running away from anyone and still manages to be half effective for the Pies.

Also I'm not sure his marking % really matters if he is making the most of his set shots to give himself a reasonable tally - 3 goals is 3 goals no matter how you do it.

If the pill is continually hitting the ground and disappearing up the other end then I would say it is an issue.
As for Cox he can actually ruck.

Yeah agree - really hope the addition of a true small fwd and a more mobile fwd line in general means dropped marks (from 2MP or others) result in an attacking opportunity rather than the oppo waltzing it out of their backline as has been the story for far too long

To get that mix right it puts pressure on 2MP as he has to be a good second ruck behind Draper and give us more than a Draper / Bryan combo will and based on form right now Bryan and Draper look to be the two. Caddy gets to play CHF . Langford playes medium. Perkins looks to have really lifted his pressure based on Saturday. And we have Kako and whoever else playing small forward. If Jones could hold a mark he would solve a lot of issues as he is mobile and tackles but he has concrete jukes as well.

Long time lurker, first time poster! My take on 2MP is that he is a slow moving, slow thinking, dare I say laconic type of player. Footy has moved past that now and has no place for guys like him anymore. I love the way he takes set shots - but that’s his one and only wood. We need dynamism in the whole field not just the forward line. I think that Harry Jones is similar as well. Hope we can move past these blokes.
I hope my lame welcome didn't scare you off.
Agree re: Wright but respectfully disagree on Jones. His pressure i50 last year kept us in games at times. I thought it was fairly clear he got the Edge memo.

Wright should be a back-up ruck-forward and play in the 2s until we need him.

Wright being accurate and tall are his strengths.
If he can't use his height to get any contested marks, then is he really any better than other plays who have more tricks in his bag.
Put him in the VFL, see if he comes right. Otherwise we have others to get game time into.

Nah, not at all GD 👍
I think Jones has regressed lately. When he first burst on the scene, he was great. Taking relief marks up and down the wing. He was similar to early Langford with his marking. I don’t know whether he’s trying to do too much or what, but he’s not as effective, imho. Bear in mind that I don’t get to see live games and tv coverage can be pretty misleading. Btw, Jones has always been one of my favourites.

Settle down mate - it’s only been 22 hrs 😱
twice in 22 hours? You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers in this racket.

He was playing well when starting fwd at a centre bounce but roaming all the way up to defence when required to provide an option. Its when we officially went wing experiment (starts centre bounce on a wing) that he started getting lost and regressed. He needs to be leading at the ball from the forwardline, and he applies decent pressure when there. End the wing experiment and he has a chance to come good again.

Agree with this. How fast is he ( decision making as well as movement). Can’t tell from tv.

As long as we are playing two rucks I just can't see 2MP fitting into the side. With the resting ruck up forward I'd rather play smaller and be more quick/agile if anything. Caddy and Langford provide better marking targets anyway for mine.

High grade ankle injury. Looks like he's going to be out for months opposed to weeks.

He's looked an absolute mile off it all pre-season, so who knows if this is the reset he needed.

I feel like 2MP has become like a better paid version of SMACK Sean McKernan.
This latest injury won’t help 2MP’s chances of senior games in 2025 - and it seems he’s destined to spend most of this year in the reserves unless one of Draper/Caddy/Langford or Bryan go down injured - much like SMACK who was in the reserves towards the end of his time at the Bombers before being picked up by the Saints.
Outside of the one outlier 53 goal season in 2022 2MP hasn’t really done anything to demand a spot in the seniors - especially now with the likes of Bryan & Caddy coming through…Still - he’s a decent depth option as a forward/ruck should one of our key talls go down…

Get out.

I still believe in 2MP but it’s pretty clear he’s not that good of a fit here.

Assuming the Draper FF experiment goes well you would expect wright asks for a trade and the club accomodates that.

In a team with good ball movement that wants to play him as a leading forward he will do great.
