How come?

He's a tremendous athlete, but he'll be an under-sized ruckman.

If he bulks up, he might lose some of his spring.

And then where do you play him?

If he ends up as a tall wingman, I wonder whether he would justify using the #1 pick.

maybe so. but we all know that the number one pick is always done and dusted before the draft.. teams just seem to always follow the hype.. Riewoldt, Cooney, Deledio, Murphy, Gibbs, Kruezer.. everyone knew they were going number 1 a long time before the draft and the teams selected accordingly.. maybe he fails? but what if Melbourne or whoever has pick 1 passes him up and he becomes the games greatest player? IMO teams are more afraid of getting it wrong than they are on getting it right. Particularly with the rise of Buddy Franklin and the whole Tambling saga. A phenomenal athlete like NickNat is just too good to pass up. I'm not saying he is a sure thing to dominate (but you'd be pretty certain he will) but i just don't see Melbourne passing on him

Lucas wouldn't get much. At his age, and with this years draft being as deep and as talented that it is, you'd be lucky to get anything more than a 3rd round pick for him, and maybe not even that, IMO.

I'd say there are at least a couple of clubs < eg W Bulldogs who'd give more than this for Scott Lucas: however if what tou say is ageneral view at least it would put an end to any further talk on the Bombers' Board of trading him away - there's no way we would dishonour him by sacking him for a third rounder.

The man speaks the truth.

Naita excites me immensely, but i have this worry in the back, front and side of my mind that maybe he won't cut it. And if he doesn't it's looking increasing likely that the other teams with top ten picks will end up with stars. I know melbourne can't risk not taking him, so I am hoping melbourne don't get pick 1 and it forces someone else can take the risk

Are you SERIOUSLY suggesting Essendon would take Steele Sidebottom (who is a great talent) over Nick Naitanui and Daniel Rich?

Ryder Is God I would like to point out that Essendon has a fetish for players with sexual innuendo attached to names:
Reimers, Hooker, Dick, Ryder, Laycock
hence Sidebottom fitting our team perfectly

If Melbourne get Robert Warnock from Fremantle will they still need to take Natanui? Wouldnt they be better to take a player in the type of Rich?

Where does everyone think Zaharakis will go?

Here's my guess!

1 MELB - NAITANTUI
2 FREM - RICH
3 ESS - HURLEY
4 WC - SWIFT
5 CARL - WATTS
6 RICH - TRENGROVE
7 ST.K - ZEIBELL
8 PA - HARTLETT
9 COLL - SIDEBOTTOM
10 KANG - YARRAN
Only problem with that is on current form melbourne, freo, west coast essendon will get 2 picks each

Especially as Melbourne, Essendon, Port, Fremantle and West Coast all won five games or more last year. West Coast is definitely in no position to gain two top ten picks, ditto Fremantle and Essendon. Melbourne's five wins last year pushes them over the margin. No, the first round will contain 16 picks for 16 teams (unless of course, someone trades away their pick, but with the diminishing of trades and the strength of the draft, I can't see that happening anyway).

For instance at the moment Richmond is looking at pick 6. And considering that pick, who's some nice players Richmond would be looking at, most likely midfielders?

If Watts finishes the carnival the way he started he'll go number 1. Pencil Rich in for Number 3 and Natanui either way will be 1/2. Remember Dean Cox is 28- perfect time to get a new ruckman in. 2-3 Years development, then step up take first ruck responsibilites and dean cox will the second tier like Everitt is playing for sydney. Once again West Coast look formidable again.

I can hardly see Naitanui making the Eagles formidable again on their own. They still have the number 1 ruckman at the moment and he will still be #1 by the time Naita is any good. They need other areas to be improved more vitally.

Surely the Cox experience shows that a great ruckman rarely comes from a top draft choice...

I reckon West Coast would back their judgement to find another diamond in the rough and would sooner take local boy Rich as the centrepiece of their midfield for the next 10+ years.
