Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

I know people fall into this trap every year, but it's hard to see how it's not gonna be Hawthorn and Geelong duking it out again next year in the GF. If the Bulldogs can trade for a ready-made key forward, they might give it a shake. But as for the rest, I just don't see it. Then again, who predicted Geelong would be so dominant in '07? So there could be a bolter. Stuffed if I can see who, though.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Remember West Coast from last year to this year? It's possible.

We're not letting go of our best players though. Unlike the Weagles, our players LIKE playing for us.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1- Geelong- The loss was the Kick in the pants they needed 3 weeks ago.
2- Hawthorn- Will be good but I think they lack Depth, Injurys could be a factor
3- Stkilda- They have gotta have a bit of injury luck sooner or later.
4- West Coast- Yes i am a WCE supporter but I think they will win enough games next year to put them around here.Cant have as many injurys next year.
5- Sydney- They never Drop off to far so I dont think a big slide is in them Next year.
6- Bulldogs- Think they will struggle against the bigger sides and a slide they might have. There best players are also their Oldest.
7- Richmond- Will break in the 8
8- Adelaide- Will just hang on with ageing stars
9- Carlton- Judd will break down and so will the Blues.
10- Fremantle- A little to many retirments in 1 year they will lack Depth.
11- Essendon - Will be a bolter early season but are still to 1 dimensonal.
12- Port Adelaide- Will be down for another year with aging stars.
13- Brisbane- New Coach he wont lift them into the finals.
14- Collingwood- Think they get lucky with the fixturing but that will work against them.
15- North melbourne- I dont think it was a smart move to delist Thommo now they will have a make shift Forward line.
16- Melbourne- Will be here for at least 2 more years, Look at the turn around from the Hawks so not all bad being on the bottom.

Premiers- Geelong
2nd- Stkilda
Brownlow- Joel Selwood
Normsmith- Ben Cousins(STK)
Coleman- Lloyd(ess) 76 goals
NAB RS- Daniel Rich -WCE

Biggest story of the Year:
Forwards Curse Fev and Buddy get struck down with season ending Knee injury's.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Don't judge too much, just a inkling, if i had to bet i would say this, but i'm not certain of anything other than buddy with the coleman and carlton with preseason, i can just see then getting ahead of themselves (again) and winning that having another poor season (not poor, but poorer than their list would suggest).

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

One Eyed Sainter 66 said:
Adelaide - Can't see them missing the eight, but also can't see them doing too much damage in finals. Will be competitive but the Crows just aren't the most balanced team out there. The old cliche, "they are an aging team" grows more and more true each year. Still, capable of anything they are. We'll see.

Not necessarily an inaccurate prediction for Adelaide in '09, but the reasoning is quite misinformed. Actually in '08 Adelaide were the exact opposite of "an aging team" in that the average age of players on Adelaides's list was lower than it was in '07. In '09, with the retirement of Bassett and Biglands, and the probable de-listing of McGregor, and given that Adelaide are very unlikely to trade and thereby gain an older player, Adelaide's list will again reduce in average age in '09 compared with '08.

Adelaide in '09 will introduce Dangerfield bringing in extra pace, and Taylor Walker for a genuine forward option, and possibly re-gain the services of Hentschel. Porplyzia might be able to play uninjured, and Burton is expected to return for the latter half of the '09 season. Maric, Tippet and Moran will all have the benefit of some number of AFL games under their belt.

This alone will go some way towards addressing some of the deficiencies of the Crows in '08. The Crows actually are a fairly balanced side, not relying on any one or two particular individuals in order to win games. This will improve even further in '09, with some extra potentcy in areas that were not strong enough in '08.
