Any small Defenders had a better season than Surjan?
I really thought I would be laughed at if I included him in this discussion, mainly because "apparently" few people know who he is. He'd be close to leading, if not leading our B&F to this point. Mind you, Dale Morris wasn't a household name before his AA selection.

Been absolutely dynamite this year. Doesn't have a bag kicked on him, consistently beats his opponents and his disposal has improved monumentally this season. His off the ball work is second to none.

In terms of possessions I'm sure there are some who are higher, in terms if team importance there wouldn't be many higher.

Those stats are nothing special. Plenty of players with better stats that wont make AA side.

N.B Bock is second in league for running bounces.:D Gun, you listening?
Maybe. With Fisher and Tarrant sliding and Bolton being injured, Bock is coming into contention. He wasn't that good on the weekend either though.

You're a hard marker Gun. Playing against a very defensive side I thought he was still pretty good. Didnt carry the ball as much as normal, probably more defensive game from him than normal.

Maybe. He was solid, but he only played on Barlow for most of the match. Lacked his attacking run but was handy with a few 3rd man up spoils.

You give Essendon supporters a bad name. In fact you have a bad name.

Why, because I think that we have been playing well enough to have at least a couple of players in contention for AA? That's ok. Keep underrating us. We prefer it that way.

Who? Watson definitely. I've said I should have Lovett as unlucky. Who else? Winderlich, Stanton and Ryder are still behind the others I've mentioned.

i cant think of anyone that has been better at centre half back than bock this season.. i would want my centre-half back to be both attacking and defensive.. obviously more defensive than attacking though

most people are putting full backs into the centre half back position.. no doubt bolton/tarrant and everybody else has had good seasons, but they dont provide much rebound

id actually have goddard ahead of bock in centre half back, but i can see him being named more on a half back flank i guess..

All the above should be in the unluckys. Stanton maybe has dropped off the pace in the last couple of weeks. I think Pears if he plays well for the rest of the year would also have to come into consideration. They would be loathe to put him in because he is a first year player but if he has played well enough I think he should be named.

Can only beat who you have. And he did....

Comprehensively.

Let's see:

Bock had 17 possessions, 6 marks, one behind.

Barlow had 15 possessions, 8 marks, two behinds.

If it weren't for shoddy kicking, Barlow would have kicked two goals on Bock as well (though Bock could have got one back). Not that that's an excuse for Barlow, but that's a factor beyond Bock's control, so he could have easily conceded 2 goals on top of the 15 possessions and 8 marks. Don't get me wrong, Barlow didn't beat Bock, but Bock certainly didn't "comprehensively" beat Barlow either. In fact, I would say they broke even.

ok, maybe i worded wrongly what i meant.. ill try again this time (i might still be wrong, just an opinion)

I just meant that rutten in adelaide normally gets the stay at home forward, who normally is the best forward (i.e hall/brown,fevola), whilst bock gets the free roaming type of forward that plays further up the ground.. which i classify as a centre half forward..

dont the boltons and a lot of others that people are mentioning at centre half back, normally play on the brown/fevola players.. so its more full back than centre half back..

i hope that all makes sense

I don't worry too much about the individual positions. I just separate them into key position players and non key position players. Where do you draw the line at distinguishing a CHB from a FB, or a BP from a HBF. If Scarlett plays on which ever one of Riewoldt or Koshcitzke that roams up around CHF, I'm not going to say he can't be considered a FB. Presti played very well of Fev when he 'sacrificied' his game running up onto the wing. Presti still had the pace to go with him, but that doesn't mean he is now a CHB. Most would consider Bock the CHB and Rutten the FB of Adelaide, but Rutten played on Hall the whole match and he was our CHF. Defenders need to be able to rotate based on matchups not where they position themselves on the field. Practically every key defender can play CHB or FB, so it doesn't really matter.

B: Simon Prestigiacomo (Coll), Matthew Scarlett (Geel), ?????????
HB: Brendan Goddard (St K), Sam Fisher (St K) Sam Gilbert (St K)
C: Dane Swan (Coll), Lenny Hayes (St K), Nick Dal Santo (St K)
HF: Steve Johnson (Geel) Nick Riewoldt (St K), Adam Goodes (Syd)
F: Paul Chapman (Geel) Jonathan Brown (Bris) Leon Davis (Coll)
Foll: Aaron Sandilands (Fre), Chris Judd (Carl) Gary Ablett (Geel)
Inter: Joel Selwood (Geel) Leigh Montagna (St K) ?????????, ?????????

Tell me who deserves the back pocket and other bench spots.

Don't think another ruckman or key forward should be selected personally though. Bulldogs, Lions, Crows, Dons probably need more representation if possible...

There is no way known Dane Swan will not make the team this year.

Probably should have LeCras in the forward pocket, but that forward line looks pretty good. I suppose no one has to have a recognised small forward. If you pick the best 6 players from the forward category your foward line would be spot on.
Same with a backup ruckman, I'm not sure why we have to have one, I'm just guessing the selectors are always going to put one in.
In regards to your missing spots, I'd have Enright in the back pocket. Then 2 of Drummond, Boyd and LeCras. But if you prefer midfielders maybe Sewell and Boyd.

Pretty much every team in the league has a Number 1 and 2 ruckman picked every week, unless injury prevents it. So it stands to reason there's 2 positions up for grabs in the AA team i think
