The selection of Jolly is a big surprise, but the more I think about it the more I understand it. The selectors have repeatedly stated that they give weighting to performances in big games etc.

Jolly started slowly, but from about Round 10 was completely dominant in pretty much every game. We didn't lose between Round 10 and Round 21, and he put on some absolute ruck clinics in that period against top sides. He also snuck forward for 21 goals.

He won't make the 22, but I can understand his selection when giving it more thought.

I still think Thomas should be there in place of Jolly, or a few of the other mids.

Pavlich isnt even worthy of the 40 man squad...but if he plays i'd put money on it only taking one half decent game on a winning team this weekend for them to put him in.

They pencil his name in at the start of every season...then see if he is bad enough to leave out rather than good enough to put in.

He had a slow finish, but was arguably on track to be AA captain through the opening 10 rounds of the season.

Hodge as a defender is definitely the Dane Swan HFF of 2010. When will they actually pick the team as the best player in each position, not just the best 22 players of the year.

I think Hodge will be named as a midfielder, but wouldn't be surprised if he was on the HB.

Ablett and Didak will both probably be named as forwards, removing the need to push Hodge to the HB. this would be more accurate as they have both spent way more time forward than Hodge has back.

I think you're right, but as VC of the minor premiers (and captain of the team on an unbeaten run of 5 games when Maxwell was injured), he has the credentials.

Hayes will probably be named VC, but in my entirely unbiased opinion pendles has had a better year and is deserving of VC.

I obviously would have no qualms with this, but the fact of the matter is, the selectors would never allocate him the captaincy due to him not even being the skipper at his club (Exception being this year when Riewoldt was out).

Well.... Hodge and Swan aren't captains of their clubs, who else is vying for the position of skipper?

McLeod was skipper of the 07 AA side and wasn't the skipper of the Crows. Gary Ablett Snr was skipper of the 95 AA side and wasn't skipper of the Cats. Diesel, 1994 Skipper etc.

Hayes has actually skippered the Saints this year and done it well, given there are no AFL Captains that have had outstanding years in the mould of Hodge and Hayes, I think it is between those 2 as they still display outstanding leadership.
