2010 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

Last effort from my good self:

FB: Enright Lake Frawley
CHB: Hodge Taylor Goddard
C: Pendlebury Ablett (c) Montagna
CHF: Didak Franklin Chapman
FF: Green Jack LeCras
R: Sandi Swan Selwood

Int: Hall Boyd Hayes Judd (Fawley 23rd)

For all those who complain about Hodge being selected on a flank, I guess he didn't play on a flank, just like Swan didn't play at HFF last year either, means little, especially as the AA committee has a history of putting players in the wrong position, like putting Harvey on a flank or sticking Luke Power in a forward pocket. Ultimately that's the best 22 or close to it, and I'm not going to pick the likes of O'Brien ahead of Judd to ensure everyone gets picked in the right spot when there's no history of that being done. Hodge may get picked as a rover but it wouldn't surprise me if he isn't, given Hodge played as little on a flank as Swan did last year (yeah, 30 touches from a flank, sure he did).

EDIT: In: Selwood, Frawley Out: Pav, Gilbert may be even more mid heavy now. Gilbert no picked.

In the Collingwood games I've seen, Dane Swan has been back, forward and in the middle.

So I'm guessing you were outraged and disgusted when the committee listed Swan as a HFF last year, yes? Storms and teacups.

Look maybe it's just me but hawks fans shouldn't sook if Hodge gets put in a flank, better than other teams like Melbourne who have deserving players like Frawley who will be ignored IMO.

Campbell Brown was flat-out brilliant in 2007, probably the Defender of the Year. He played CHB at various stages and blanketed the likes of Scotty Lucas and Mathew Pavlich. Played tall and played small and was simply ferocious.

Apart from when Corey Jones tore him apart in Tassie, kicking four on him in a quarter and a half and seeing him dragged then thrown forward in an attempt (failed) to get a kick?

On topic:

From North Andrew Swallow must make it no matter what.

If they were picking the best possible team as in to play a game, the Brady Rawlings would be a shoe in for a back pocket.

If they just, as usual, choose the 'best' 22 and force blokes to play out position simply to jam them on the starting sheet, then he won't?

Defence:
No real issues with any of those selections apart from Morris. 6 games is probably too many missed for Fletcher but I'm happy to swap him back in for Morris. Rawlings has done enough to jump ahead of both. In regards to the official squad, I think Harbrow and maybe Hodge will be ahead of 1 or 2 of those I picked.

Midfield:
This was hard. Normally the squad is easier than the team but the team was much easier for picking the mids. Bartel the main one I'm unsure of but he has been very good in most of the big games and has had another good season. Kelly, Jack, Swallow and Cross the other 4 who were close. I think you could make a case for each of the unlucky's. Mumford/Hudson is line ball as it has been all year, so that's just me seeing more of Mumford that gets him across the line.

Forward:
The 10 that were unchanged have been locks for a while, so the last two spots were the hard ones. I went with Harvey and Rioli, rightly or wrongly but 25 goals is good enough for a cut off to be considered a forward. Milne and Betts might have more goals but the other two have definitely had better years.

Boyd and Cross have had far better seasons

The coaches votes, Bulldog board votes and most media votes say otherwise. Boyd has had a decent season but is being overated by a lot of people, quite a fair way off form from last year. The 4 dogs midfielders are all pretty close to eachother but IMO Cooney has been the best.

Enright - Lake - Frawley
O'Brien - Taylor - Goddard
Chapman - Selwood - Judd
Didak - Franklin - Johnson
Green - Riewoldt - Pavlich
Sandilands - Swan - Ablett
Hodge - Hayes - Pendlebury - Montagna

I've been waiting for you to invade this thread ;)

Sam Mitchell has played every bit as good as Lenny Hayes this season and their stats are near identical, yet I don't see anyone pumping up his tyres for All Australian selection

http://www.pro-stats.com.au/psw/web...02073&year1=2010&tid2=113&pid2=754&year2=2010

I think Mitchell also uses the ball a little better than Hayes

Mitchell got off to a slow start to the year and missed 3 early games, which often kills your chances of All Australian selection. Since Round 8, Mitchell has been very steady, reliable, underrated as always, but has never rated a mention in any thread about the All Australian team.

If Mitchell couldn't get selected for his superb seasons in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 then he certainly won't be selected in 2010. But if SweetLeftFoot is going to mention Andrew f**kin Swallow's name in this thread, then I'm going to mention Sam Mitchell's.

You should never use what SLF does to justify doing something.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mitchell made the squad but I wouldn't have him in the 22. He's had better years for starters.

Swallow has had a good year but he's not AA material, if Mitchell and my Deledio wont make it, Swallow sure aren't. If you want a hard-arse inside mid with a great year, pick Boyd.

Agreed, Cooney gets more harshly judged then our other midfielders but is definitely our best

I still can't believe Mitchell hasn't made an AA team. Probably the best player from the last decade not to.

I think he is the no.1 clearance player in the last 10 years too. Just goes to show how poor the selectors are and how they weight it based in ladder positions.

Jobe Watson won't be named this season but if you watched most of Essendon's game this season, you would see that only 3 midfielders have performed better.

The squad should be released today so my prediction is:

Defenders: Hodge, Goddard, Taylor, Malceski, Lake, Harbrow, O'Brien, Gilbert, Enright, Rawlings, Frawley, Deledio

Midfield: Selwood, Bartel, Kelly, Judd, Pendlebury, Swan, Mundy, Thomas, Boyd, Cross, Jack, Hayes, Montagna, Sandilands, Mumford, Jamar.

Forward: Ablett, Chapman, Didak, LeCras, Johnson, Pavlich, Franklin, Goodes, Green, Riewoldt, Hall, Harvey

Curious to know why LeCras doesn't get a gig AG, I had a look at my team, probably too midfield dominant and one mid could go for Frawley granted, but for the FP/4th int spot, IMO LeCras pushes Harvey out due to the fact that for what he does, small forward, he can't be beat. Plus, it would be unfair for him to be refused twice now.

Harvey has had a better year though. So have Pavlich, Goodes, SJ, Deledio and Malceski. So all of them would be ahead of LeCras for the last bench spot.

LeCras is deserving I just have the others ahead of him. I hope he gets picked because he deserves to be called an AA player based on his past two years.
