2010 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

I stand corrected. I honestly thought it was some sort of unwritten law. I guess I also forgot that Riewoldt wasn't gonna make AA this year, which would have made my point a bit more credible.

Who reckons Judd's 3rd quarter on the weekend puts him into the team?

We say it doesn't work like that but could we think of examples from years gone by where it's happened?

He otherwise had a rather mediocre finish to the year.

McLeod was skipper of the 07 AA side and wasn't the skipper of the Crows. Gary Ablett Snr was skipper of the 95 AA side and wasn't skipper of the Cats. Diesel, 1994 Skipper etc.

Hayes has actually skippered the Saints this year and done it well, given there are no AFL Captains that have had outstanding years in the mould of Hodge and Hayes, I think it is between those 2 as they still display outstanding leadership.

Actually Gary Snr was the captain in the 1995 and 1996 seasons.

Pretty easy year to predict I reckon. Everyone seems to have fairly similar teams with only a few position differences and 2 or 3 players swapping on the bench.

Frawley - Lake - Enright
Goddard - Taylor - Deledio
Pendlebury - Hayes - Hodge
Chapman - Franklin - Ablett
Green - Riewoldt - Didak
Sandilands - Swan - Selwood
Mumford - Montagna - Boyd - Malceski

David Mundy is the most effective clearance player in the competition.

Gerald Healy is onto this, expect him to make a huge case for Mundy's inclusion.

no offence to mundy because i think he has had a breakout year but he is a tad overrated i mean if he didnt have sandi tapping down to him who knows if he would be as good

Robinson has the best team from that lot and he always seems to know what he is talking about on the shows he does. He's a gun.

Good to see Franklin getting a bit of love. In a lot of articles, teams I read it seems I might be underrating Malceski a bit. I went with Deledio so that's still the position I'm unsure of. Likewise with LeCras

I know it's peoples opinions but you have to worry when you see names like Mackie in some 'experts' teams. Burgoyne as well. He was very good in most of the games he played, but he missed too many. He'd be a good tip for next years team based on what we saw.

Seems so predictable that Jolly would finally be noticed as good player only when he moves to Collingwood. The guy has the same amount of disposal, hitouts and goals as he did for any of the years at Sydney.

Personally I think Mumford is better than Jolly, as Mumford tackles and Handballs, rather than just smashing it on the boot. Im pleased to see he was nominated, but they're both good. I suppose in previous years, Cox kept Jolly out of the side.

Jolly severely sucked for the first 5 games. If Jolly makes the side, then so should Goodes. Goodes has had periods of greatness, and has also sucked. Its the same notion.

Jolly won't make the side because I know there's one ruckman in the squad who dominated him and Fraser/Brown twice this season and it isn't Sandilands.

And (not trying to be biased but) how was Frawley only picked by three people out of twelve? (Horan's doesn't count. Obviously)

I can't believe not one of those "experts" didn't have Deledio in their team but most had O'Brien. Lol, what a joke.

O'Brien = this year's Maxwell obviously.

Hyped up selection in the media that has a good year by their standards but not AA standards.

He has actually had career high amounts of both goals and disposals this year.

As for the hit outs, it is well known that Sydney produce far more stoppages than any other team.

Jolly probably doesn't deserve to be in the top 40. I think NobleBlood has a point, he only averages 1 more disposal per game this year and has kicked a few extra goals, but he is 10 hit outs per game down. I know sydney's game style would have helped the hit out stats but still, as a ruckman he had a better year last year. Can think of alot of players more worthy of a top 40 spot.

Having not read the thread, nor knowing who made the Squad of 40, here's my All-Australian Team for 2010, with criteria as follows -

  • Minimum 15 games played
  • Two key defenders and two key forwards
  • A ruckman, forward, midfielder and defender on the bench
B: Graham Johncock - Brian Lake - Greg Broughton
HB: James Kelly - Sam Gilbert - Darren Milburn
C: Brendon Goddard - Gary Ablett - Dane Swan
HF: Paul Chapman - Lance Franklin - Alan Didak
F: Brent Harvey - Matthew Pavlich - Cyril Rioli
R: Aaron Sandilands - Chris Judd - Joel Selwood
I: Shane Mumford - Dale Thomas - Luke Hodge - Corey Enright
