2010 Ladder Predictions

where i think they will finish up. in brackets the general range i expect them to place in

St. Kilda (1st - 3rd) Will again be the best side over the home and away season. yesterdays loss will only make them hungrier. Will be minimal list changes
Western Bulldogs (1st - 3rd) Very exciting team, the potential luring of Hall will straighten up the side and give them a go to guy up forward
Geelong (2nd - 5th) Best team of the past 3 years will again be up there, possible departures will hurt them but the class in the midfield will keep them up there
Adelaide (1st - 4th) young and exciting team with a strong forward line good midfield and classy defence. not to mention a home ground advantage
Hawthorn (2nd - 5th) 2008 premiers will in the finals again next year. a lot will depend on Croad, but they will cause some major headaches in september
Collingwood (4th - 10th) not so sure about Collingwood, could make top 4 but I can also see them missing out on the 8 entirely
Carlton (4th - 8th) Brock Mcleans feeding the ball out to Judd, Gibbs and Murphy will only make the midfield more threatening. question marks over defence still and another avenue to goal outside Fev would be useful
West Coast (12th - 7th) lots of young class in the midfield to go along with Kerr and Cox and the forward line is starting to look quite potent

Brisbane (6th - 10th) can never write off a team with Brown, Bradshaw and Black
Essendon (7th - 10th) will again be there abouts, I still think they need another year before they make serious inroads into september
Port Adelaide (8th - 13th) inconsistent, best is brilliant and worst is horrible. all depends on having more of their best than their worst
Melbourne (11th - 12th) will improve (will finish outside the bottom 4). young players growing together as a team
Sydney (9th - 13th) lots of unknown to go with Sydney, Jesse White looks to fill the void left by Hall and Goodes to take up CHF. Leo Barry leaves a hole in defence though
Fremantle (14th - 16th) Lots of kids, really don't know how it's going to go with them
North Melbourne (14th - 16th) New coach and possibly a new game plan will take some time to adjust
Richmond (14th - 16th) See North Melbourne

1. St Kilda - hungry, hungry, hungry.
2. Crows - minor round legends - Dangerfield will add more mongrel in the middle.
3. Hawthorn - a revival (not revenge), but the damage has been done.
4. Geelong - will be having a well deserved hangover - laurels, resting.
5. Bulldogs - a new game plan for Barry – confusion, Rocket explodes, repeat.
6. Collingwood - backroom machinations will split the team – may get ugly.
7. Carlton - will be more workmanlike - Judd out for three will be a blessing in disguise.
8. Essendon - bigger, better and just as fast.
9. West Coast - skills are a concern - don't be fooled by their last month.
10. Fremantle - will be doing it to keep Sandilands, last run with Pav as well?
11. Brisbane - Voss had beginner's luck, will be good and terrible.
12. Richmond - will toughen up, be more consistent.
13. N Melbourne - ditto.
14. Sydney - bottom 6 players will not be worthy and will leave them exposed.
15. Melbourne - will be better, but all is not well at Demonland.
16. Port - oh, the drama. There will be a backroom bloodbath. And if Brogan goes down: woo-wee!

pretty hard to predict at this stage however here are my thoughts on the leading clubs

I expect Saints and the Cats to remain strong however the gap will close with a pack of clubs chasing

Hawthorn - will be the bolter as the club willhit pre-season early with a healthy list of players

Adelaide - will improve again, Vince, Walker, Tippett, MacKay, Dangerfield and Otten will only get better not to mention there top 3 draftees from 2008 Davis, McKernan and Sloane will be additional talent that will add to the side

Collingwood - should improve however will need a big season from Cloke and need to find a big body defender to help out and maybe some speed in the midfield to replace players like O'Bree. Cameron Wood will also be very important to the Pies next year

WB - not sure where they are at they are at at the moment you would think that they should improve however the question is has there list hit there threshold of improvement, the trading period will be important to them

Carlton - great talent in their midfield however as a side they need to become more disciplined defensively, they will need to find another avenue to goal and strengthen there back 6 to be a serious top 4 contender

1. St. Kilda
2. Western Bulldogs
3. Geelong
4. Carlton
5. Collingwood
6. Hawthorn
7. Adelaide

9. Essendon
10. West Coast
11. Richmond
12. Sydney
13. Fremantle
14. Melbourne
15. North Melbourne
16. Port Adelaide

In saying this I really have no idea. I think realistically there are probably 8 teams who could finish top 2 so yeah can't wait to see. Bring on next year!!!

Im more just posting this here so i can search this thread and see how wrong i was at the end of next year.

1. Adelaide: I think we have the players and the structures to al least be Minor Premiers. How we go in finals is up for debate but it was the senior players that let us down agaisnt Collingwood so i think we have what it takes. /bias

2. Western Bulldogs. If Barry Hall goes there and dosent get injuries/tribunal cases, then this will be massive for them. Johnson then takes number 2 defender providing he goes on and with a midfield of great footskills that forward line will work.

3. Hawthorn: They will be back. Nothing more needs to be said

4. St Kilda. Will have hunger after Yesterday's loss but im not sure they will be the same team.

5. Collingwood. Had them 7th then swapped with Carlton. Will want another one of their forwards to come on.

6. Geelong. May possibly drop after winning 2 premierships in 3 years. Will still be a massive threat.

7. Carlton. The pick up of McLean is bigger than people realise. It will massively free up Judd to be much more offensive as he will no longer be relied upon to get the hard ball. ( I had them 5th then swapped them with Collingwood. Could easily make top 4 because they nearly did this year)

8. Brisbane. Found some players this year. Browny has another big year then so will they. Will have a pretty handy ruck division you would think.

9. Essendon. Will be there and about to make another final but not yet good enough to go any further. 50/50 to make the finals in my eyes

10. West Coast. I can actually see them making the finals but will more likely be around here.

11. Fremantle. I watched a lot of them this year and they have some bloody good young kids. Will go alright next year

12. North Melbourne. Have some good young midfielders

13. Sydney. I can never predict where Sydney are gonna finish. This will do

14. Richmond. They have some good players, they have some horrible players. Just cant seem to develop their players. Cousins will be great for them off the field to teach players like Delideo and Cotchin the workrate required to get to his level.

15. Port Adelaide. Will go backwards. Just seems to be massive problems at this club at the moment. Im not a massive Port hater and i think this is realistic

16. Melbourne. Too many young kids to lift them off the bottom at the moment.

Just a note to future me when i read this at the end of next year. You were hungover when you wrote this and well done on not being dead yet.

not trying to have a crack a the swans but how could anyone have them anywhere but bottom 2.

They still have a very good core group in O'Keefe, Kirk, Goodes, Bolton X2, Jolly, Mcveigh. A small group of players that can perform a role in Richards, LRT, Mattner, Shaw, Bevan. Also a promising group of kids in Hannaberry, Veszpremi, White, Jack, Bird, Meredith, O'Dwyer, who's ability to play as a team produced some great late form in the year.

Geez, how dare people not put Geelong in the top 2. Most of your retirements could be from the backline so the players you listed don't really have a say in how you go next year.

Tom Harley will be our only retirement in the backline, he is a great leader but it wont make too much difference with him retiring. Josh Hunt coming back as well will strengthen the backline.

 He wouldnt even be in the top 10 players in the comp yet you think he can single-handedly save you from the bottom two?

St.Kilda - They will be more more hungry after yesterdays loss and I Cant see them not making the top 2.
Geelong - The cats will still make the top 2 but I dont think they will win the same amount of games they have been the previous 3 years.
Hawthorn - After there terrible season this year I think they will turn it around and be back to the form they had in 08. Preseason is very important along with there key players staying injury free.
WB - I presume they will be similar to the previous two years, seems there team just isnt good enough to go all the way.
Adelaide - Good young list that will improve on last year and could sneak into the top 4.
Collingwood - There team is not as good as others think. Expect them to finish around 5-7.
Carlton - They have a good midfield but their backline is a worry for them. Expect them to be in the 8 but just making up the numbers.
WCE - I think they have a bery exciting young list and I think they will sneak into the 8 ahead of Essendon and Brisbane.

Brisbane - There key players are getting on and I dont rate there youngsters. Could sneak into the 8.
Essendon - They were lucky to sneak into the 8 last year and I just cant see them getting back in there next season. Will fight it out with Bris and WCE for 8th spot.
Port Adelaide - They have a bit of talent but 11th is as high as I can see them getting.
Richmond - If Richo stays fit I think they could win a few games but wont be anywhere near the 8.
North Melbourne, Sydney, Freo, Melbourne - couldnt split those 4, all will be terrible next season.

I don't see how carlton will be top 4...

Only missed out on 4th position this year by 1 game and percentage.

Take into account we lost to

Saints - 9 points
Freo - 7 points
Essendon - 4 Points
Hawthorn - 4 Points

Could have easily made top 4 this year had we put away those sides.
Didnt have Waite for the majority of the year and Jameison also missed the second half of the season.

Murphy and Gibbs are getting better each week (both top 10 in the Brownlow) and with the addition of McLean + whoever else gets traded into the side, it would be underachieving if the Blues didnt make top 4 next season.

IMO

 He wouldnt even be in the top 10 players in the comp yet you think he can single-handedly save you from the bottom two?
Not single handedly but we have way more class in our experience/middle aged players compared to the other bottom four teams. If he isn't top 10 he is extremely close. If we are so shit how did we almost beat you at the end of this season?

Melbourne will finish bottom four, they have a very young list and will start to challenge the top teams 2-3 years time. don't start getting your hopes up.
1-St kilda- Last chance to win a premiership with there current list.

2-
Western Bulldogs-If they get a power forward (HALL) they will be hard to beat.

3-Geelong-
Cant see them winning another flag but they will still be up there

4-Adelaide-
They have a good list, strong all round just need to be consist all year.

5-Carlton
- we will have one of the best midfields in the comp, just need to keep Fev and Ratten needs to improve on his COACHING.

6-Collingwood-
They have have a alright list, but have a very good coach and need to match it with the best teams

7-Hawthorn-
needs to stay injure free and don't drop easy games

8-Brisbane-
has to start winning interstate and be consistent

9-Essendon-
very good offensive game it will work good on some teams but will get destroyed against others.

10-West Coast-
hard to beat in the west, young and OK list.

11-Port Adelaide-
has to stop of being UP and DOWN and be consistent.

12-North Melbourne-
have a young list see how Brad Scott goes, they will be very competitive.

13- Sydney-
they will only win at the SCG next year. needs to start rebuilding.

14-Fremantle-
there starting to rebuild will be good in years to come and need to learn how to rove of the best ruckman.

15-Melbourne-
very very young list lack experience but need to get games in the young boys.

16-Richmond-
So many holes in their team, have good young players but wont win then many games.

I dont personally understand why

1) Adelaide are being touted as top 4 team, and some even saying finishing first. Yes they had a good year but finished 5th Mcleod, goodwin, edwards, burton are all huge parts of there team and will all go in the next year. I just dont rate them. They remind me of collingwood circa 06 - 08 with no stars and will consistently finish 5-8.

2) Yes i go for collingwood, but about 1-2 months ago we were being called one of the top 2 teams in the league. With a very young list, and people have us going backwards, its the same story every year, collingwood are not as good as everyone is saying yet we keep finishing above predictions. The only player with a bit of age that we rely on is presti and i believe he will be phased out over next year and reid and brown will come in. Collingwood will finish top 4 or 5. Bookmark it.

Brownlow - Scott Pendlebury

Rising Star - Tom Scully

1. St Kilda - time running out, hunger will be insatiable
2. Hawthorn - young list with full pre-season, just beginning their run at the top
3. Adelaide - great blend of youth and experience. a chance to go all the way
4. Geelong - too good to fall away
5. West Coast - will be the surprise packet of 2010
6. Bulldogs - even though they will get Hall I reckon they had their best shot
7. Carlton - top end talent but falls away too quickly after that
8. Collingwood - easy draw will ensure higher finish than talent permits

9. Brisbane - will struggle to hold ground
10. Richmond - young midfield will get them moving
11. Sydney - refusal to give anything other than 100% will prevent bottom 4 finish
12. Essendon - will fall away completely
13. Fremantle - young list, dreadful coach
14. Port - a rabble. will suffer enormously with expansion
15. Kangaroos - beginning a long stint in the gold coast era bottom 4
16. Melbourne - may god have mercy on us all

Yes i go for collingwood, but about 1-2 months ago we were being called one of the top 2 teams in the league. With a very young list, and people have us going backwards,
There are two reasons for this. Firstly, people remember Collingwood's last performance, even though they were one of only four teams that were still alive in the second last week of the season. Collingwood had nothing left in the second half against Geelong, because they were clearly feeling the effects of the weather conditions against Adelaide, and the ridiculous six day break leading in to that match, while the Crows had an eight day break. Scott Pendlebury is Collingwood's most important player as well, and is irreplaceable..

Secondly, opposition supporters don't like Collingwood more than any other team, so most of these people rate Collingwood lower than they should, even though both the seniors and the VFL team made the Preliminary Final this season. I don't take any notice of these people though because any team that wins 12 of 13 matches and is as young as Collingwood, should have a lot to look forward to. The club is very well run, and there is no way that the team will go backwards nest season. I'm interested to see if they are active in trade week this year though.

After Round 22:

1. Geelong
2. Collingwood
3. Western Bulldogs
4. Hawthorn
5. Adelaide
6. St.Kilda
7. Carlton
8. Brisbane

9. West Coast
10. Essendon
11. Sydney
12. Fremantle
13. North Melbourne
14. Port Adelaide
15. Melbourne
16. Richmond
