I will say it again Tonka oops soory Conca before Heppell, It is Buddy vs Tambling all over again..well done Bombers, although Prestia will be goo as wel and definately better than Tonka toy.
An Essendon supporter shouldn't try and pot another team's midfield.

Conca hasn't looked all that comfortable in the backline, but he showed a lot of poise to back peddle out of heavy midfield traffic in round one.

No one could lay a glove on him.

Everyone would take Deledio, Grigg, Martin, Jackson, Cotchin, Conca, Batchelor and Edwards over Essendon's 24 and under mids and flankers.

Not forgetting Foley who could possibly be on par with Watson if not for injury.

The Bombers are only good if you're looking for big men.

See you in round 4, your mob are our bitch and you know it, our midfield is fine thanks, and everyone would take Heppell above conca on last nights game alone, looked like a fish out of water with no idea how to play as a backman, Pretty happy with Heppell, Melksham, Watson,Stanton, as a midfield base thanks, as last week showed. Throw in solid tryers in Hocking and Lonergan, plus Howlett and Colyer, and we seem to have addressed our midfield weakness, we have pace and toughness and also have Carlton covered.:eek::eek: Fwiw we would have taken Presti if Richmond or gc17 had taken Heppelll. Thanks guys we have a new cult hero...

Its a big call to say that a basketballer, passed over by every other club in both the draft and the Rookie draft would have been a better pick than Polo.

The choice of Polo has been much maligned but I think it needs to be remembered that.
: He was the last actual draft pick in the draft.
: He is very likely an upgrade to the depth, compared to Robert Eddy ( now on the Rookie List ) and other players that were let go.

Polo is a dud, Hibberd is the man you should have picked with the last pick in the National.....

Given that Hibberd is a rebounding back ( I think) and we already have Gwilt, Fisher, Gram, Gilbert, Walsh and Cripps who can do that, I think it would have a bad move for both Hibberd and StKilda.

imo you are still basing your op on 2 games. yes milne got him but he does that to most small defenders. check his stats mate, there pretty good. conca is still finding his feet, is a genuine mid not a defender put i still think he will be a gun. lets check this in a couple yrs time. like i said before if heppell is that good why didnt gc, bris take him?

Its easy to bag but to say anyones made mistakes at this stage is premature.
I can still remember Hawthorn get hammered for taking Hodge rather than Judd.We really haven't even seen the best of 2011 yet that happens tonight.

But looking at the order one may may observations based on immediate need.

StKilda apparently needs another set of strong hands to help Riewoldt , could they do with Darling now rather than Cripps? One might say the same of Geelong. Love Guthrie but Darling might have more immediate impact

Conca look to be a good future player but could the Tigers do with another tall defender like Watson?

There is probably only one certainty. The Dogs did NOT make a mistake taking the their two FSons

Regardless of his performances so far i never had conca in the top 20. Even out of the west australians i had him behind swallow, matera, bennell, cripps and darling.

So far gaff has actually surprised me i didnt think he was quite as fast as he is and his long kicking although brief looked better than i remembered. In saying that though i still would have taken heppell or polec at 4.

North taking another midfielder with questionable skills in Atley when they could have taken a forward in Jack Darling.

Watching Edwards and Hansen today, they are not going to be top line footballers. Ben Warren can't even get a game, and he is much worse than the other two.

Again and again I'll say it but all 16 clubs for not picking up Jack Darling. This kid is a star in the making.

I was a big hater of Gaff when we first drafted him but I'm seeing why we took him at 4 over Heppell & Polec.

Wouldn't have minded him at the Dogs, but we were all tied up with Wallis and Libba.

LOL that is quite abit of bias.

And no I dont think anyone at Essendon would regard overlooking Darling for Heppell as a mistake just quietly.

As is your comment. The way some supporters talk about Heppell its as if he is the second coming of christ.

Just let the kids play and atleast wait until they have played a dozen or so games before we start comparing them.

Well i wanted heppell before gaff pre draft. Gaffs actually starting to make me change my mind and im not a huge fan of his type of player.
I don't think its entirely reasonable to rip into clubs for not picking darling he did have concerns and doubts pre-draft and was expected to slide a little.

That being said i expected him to go to melbourne and if not there i was basically 100% certain he would not slide past freo who were in desperate need for young KPP. Im stoked he slid.

I think potentially the worst pick of this draft is conca. Not saying at all that he's a bad player or anything and wont be good but he was not rated pre-draft anywhere near as high as he was taken. Was predicted outside the top 20 by most and with heppell still available who was touted as top 5 it was a massive shock to see richmond choose conca a WA boy when they had a more highly rated local in heppell. You simply can't take a risk like that and have it not pay off. If it doesn't i would say that it was worse drafting than when tambling was picked before buddy. Atleast tambling was rated high pre-draft so it was an understandable selection.

Mind showing a bit of respect to the young kid?

Jeez the kids are into there second game and already the wolves are out claiming he is no good.

The kid has shown a lot in his first 2 games, in his first game he was given the job on Garlett in which Conca kept him to something like 7 Disposals and 2 goals (1 Goal directly from a Deledio mistake) and Conca gathering 15 Disposals himself.

Second game he is given the massive job of playing on Milne, sure he got pantsed by the more experienced bloke but he still did a few nice things and kept his head up even though he was having a tough time.

Anybody claiming a win over another club in regards to draftees at this early stage is just plain stupid as anything can happen in 3-4 years time.

Darling was always a huge talent. There were other reasons why so many clubs ignored him.

LOL the irony.

And no my comment was not, Im not the one suggesting every club made a mistake they didnt pick up Darling. Dont even bother throwing that comment my way Eagles fan.

If you read my whole post the point I was making was that you can't compare and judge the new draftees after 1 round.

Part of my post you decided to edit out:

Just let the kids play and atleast wait until they have played a dozen or so games before we start comparing them.

Do you disagree?

conca has had a much more difficult job playing in the richmond defense as opposed to heppell floating around half back/wing.

heppells kicking looks so good because he has had more time and space and players actually running into good positions.

conca will be good for us, very composed, very smart and a good kick.

happy with conca, batchelor and helbig.

still cant believe essendon fans getting so excited about heppell, i dont get why he is being made out to be that good, i think he looks the goods, but no where near as good as some are making out.
